Not sure about your place of work but mine told me after 12 weeks they will bid my job according to FMLA rules. They will still continue to pay my disibilty but I may not have a job when I return unless I come back within 12 weeks. It’s only been 4 weeks so far

Oh that sounds so like the education dept!

Many moons ago, when my kids were young, I worked in a primary school kitchen. It is not the easiest of jobs, & you do not say how long ago your TKR op was, but I would say if you are still using a stick to help walk, you really shouldn't be considering it as yet. I do not see them allowing you if you are still using a walking aid! In a kitchen? Dangerous! Health & Safety wouldn't allow it!!

Returning to work depends on an awful lot & is different for every individual.

Only you can decide as to whether you are able to work at this moment. You may have to attend a meeting but if you are medically unfit they cannot make you go back just yet! If necessary see your GP & get a Drs Certificate.

Hi Anna, if you had your op end of Jan, then you are 3 months po. Far too early to even think about going back to work in your job. Sat at a desk maybe but not in a school kitchen! I'm sure the consultant will agree, I was only cleared for driving again last month at 4 months po.

If you have to rely on walking aids to get about you will not be deemed fit to work just yet, end of!

Try not to worry, enjoy the good weather as I'm sure it won't last & normal service will be resumed (rain, wind & rain, cold & rain etc etc urghh!!).

Let us know how you get on

When I had my first tkr in 2011 I had to fill out Family Medical Leave paperwork guarenteeing my job for 3 months. ( The Family Medical Leave Act) I had a desk job so I was able to go back at 8 weeks. I elevated my knee on a chair and hobbled to the bathroom. I'm sure they would have kept my job open longer. I hope they will for you. I can't imagine standing that long. Praying for you.

Thank you Linda as it's inside your knee which has a lot of healing to do. Hopefully they will as I have been there 27yrsx

    Hi anna

Let your consultant know how you feel he should understand and maybe liase with your GP standing for lo g periods isn't good when you have had a TKR I found that out when I returned to work after seven weeks I was OK when I was sat at my desk but when I stood for any period of time it became stiff and sore you need time to recover there's a great saying in this forum recovery from this op is a marathon not a sprint

I hope things work out for you good luck.

Hi Anna take your time, I am 12 weeks post op and I am a nurse on a busy unit, I am not going back until I hit the ground running, my GP agrees ..thankfully

look after yourself, when did you have op? If it’s under 12 weeks get a sick note and also are you driving yet? Tell school they will have to come and see you as your having trouble walking,

    this is about you!
