Where should I be 10 days post THR

Hi could anyone tell me where I should be at 10 days after op... everything went really well, had a super path THR in Warwick but not sure when I should be trying to walk with one crutch? Any help much appreciated. Doing usual bed exercises still but still struggle with stairs.

Thank you for your post! I'm now 10 days post THR and have been reading posts where people are in no pain, walking everywhere and I felt I must be a failure. I'm a reasonably fit 70 year old but my hip replacement is on the same leg as a semi repaired quadriceps. I severed it 9 years ago but hospital refused to give me an MRI for 10 months - meaning my tendons and muscles had shrivelled before the repair surgery leaving me with a weakened knee. The pain I am experiencing now is in my upper front thigh and is made worse by the exercises which I am doing but not as frequently as I should. Your post has given me reassurance that resting and doing what my body dictates is probably the best way.

warm welcome to the hippies forum -
10 days post-op from such a major invasive surgery is really still early days ... tendons, muscles, bone and more cut, joint forcefully dislocated and body pprepared to get hardware placed -- not sure if you have seen the video on youtube (warning: not for the meek) but it looks and sounds like major remodelling -
Try not to compare yourself to others ... you are doing your best and definitely keep on listening to your body ...
Maybe you can start your own discussion (see green box) so we can support you ...
big warm hug

Thanks Renee. I tried cutting back on painkillers too early. Making much better progress now I've gone back on to the recommended dose.

Hi Angel, Im just over 12 days post op so probs about the same as you now and I am stil walking with both crutches as my operated leg feels very weak still so I would say your doing fine.
Stairs aren't a problem for me personally but I do have prior experience in doing stairs with crutches. I imagine they are challenging for some at first...As others have said don't rush and just do what feels comfortable.
Wishinig you well with your recovery

Thank you for your reply, I'm about 3 1/2 wks now and finally on one crutch... you do get all sorts of aches and pains and think probably I'm in more pain now (back and groin area) but still feel I'm progressing! I hope you're going ok too , it's a long but hopefully happy ending x
