which is the best hrt to take at 61?

I am 61. Please do not tell me about any natural alternatives and the risk of HRT. I had a partial hysterectomy at 40 because of a prolapse and no serious symptoms. I took Oestrogen 2mg from age 50 and it worked like a charm. Affected by all the propaganda and the arbitrary 5 yr rule I stopped at 60. I stopped abruptly without titrating down and had hellish withdrawal symptoms which lasted for about a month. In the past 8 months I have tried 3 different  natural remedies that work for other people but not for me. My simple question is which which oestrogen hrt treatment should I take with my history? I am NOT interested in any other input just a product name to ask a doctor to prescribe

Sorry to disappoint you: plant based hormones would be the right ones at your age. If you do not want to take them and do not want to detoxify (when you change medications you must  detoxify you liver first) and be patient for them to act, then transdermal bio-identical HRT (yes they can be prescribed): Crinone (progesterone) + Oestrogel (estradiol) for eg.  And  you can continue with vaginal estriol. Take care.

Thanks TeresaJS - I'm done with trying plant based oestrogen - i have tried everythng that everyone swears by and none of them work for me - I have a great life on hrt and i dont think trying to get it back is asking for too much - there are women for whom plant based solutions work but i'm juts not one of them - by the way when menopause started i tried these remedies before hrt and none worked - have a great weekend TeresaJS

PS- Vaginal estriol cream is Ovestin. Very low risk hormone.

Hi. Ovestin (estriol cream) is prescription. Gynoflor that is similar is over the counter in many countries but I don't about the UK. Biovea sells an estriol cream online. Estriol has takes some time to be effective(1 monthish). Take care.

I live in the U.S. Im 46. Started menopause back in Aug of 2014. Went on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy in Nov. Had hormones tested by saliva test. Showed I was very low on progesterone an low on estrogen. Testosterone was ok. So a vaginal suppository was made especially for me. With 40mg of progesterone an 0.2 ng of estriol an 0.05 of estradiol. Stopped my palpitations. But still had to get on a antidepressant (Lexapro ) which really didn't help, got sleepy an gained wt so stopped that an started Zoloft an it causex abdominal pain so just stopped it. Now don't know what to take. I can't tell if hormones are helping or not? Mentally I mean. No other symptoms physically now. So everyone is different an can decide what type of hormone they want. I didn't want a "one size fits all" pill or cream by a pharmaceutical company. Have you had your hormone levels checked? You might want to.

I hipe you find a solution Zio10 - unfortunately for me my problem is stupity and there is no treatment for that - i was on hrt that worked 100% for me a dn i stopped in after 10 oerfect years just because i had bought int the anti-hrt stories - i did not take the trouble to eductae myself - i only saw the facts now - too late - i staretd this discussion because i hope the gynae will prescrobe hrt when i see him on the 6th and i just wanted to know if there are any new advancements since i started with estrafem 11 yrs ago - i asked my GP and he said there isn't anything new and better - i thought that maybe he had missed it because he does nt specilaize in menopause - come the 6th i am going to take kneepads with me because i am going to go o my knees and ask the gynae - don't know him or her to put me on what works for me - if he or she has bought into the anti-hrt story then i'm in trouble because nothing else works for me - i have no depression  but just extreme day and night sweat, extreme day and night hot flushes and extreme fatigue. the fact that i have bad arthritis and react to pain killers does not help and between the two conditions i have not slept well for one night in the past 10 months - what a price to pay for stupidity and ignorance - whoever sad ignorance is bliss was probably drunk - the only cnsolation is that my husband is very supportive - have a great weekend

    Hi

I am looking too but need to tell you that I have been on HRT for 25 years and my Dr told me he won't renew my prescription but I got the  nurse practitioner to give me a prescription

    I am on OGEN .065

I am 78 years old and I do not have osteoporosis and I have the body that I would defintely have it

My doctor keeps insisting that I will get breast cancer if I keep taking Ogen and he is scaring me and I do not know what to do --however I have decided to stay on it--it fits in with my life since I have a third husband of 6 years and afraid to go off of it

So it is a DECISION that each of us have to make==who knows if this is going to hurt me--I figure if it hasn't hurt me in 25 years--well I am going to stay with it but also you have to know I am so scared of going off of it!!!!!! I had a hysterectomy at age 42 but I kept my ovaries and didn't go through menopause till many years later

    Arlene
