White flickering light after laser for retinal tear

I posted on here a few weeks ago about a black/gray spot I kept seeing after the retinal tear laser surgery. I saw on the doctor's notes it was the photocoagulation. I also saw that I have lattice degeneration which I'm assuming contributed to the tear. I am not seeing the black spot so much anymore, unless I blink or change rooms with different lightings, but now in its place I am constantly seeing a flashing light that looks white especially in dim lighting. It extends to the side of my eye as well, which I'm assuming is from where the laser was also done. I went to the retinal specialist and said everything looked fine and this could be a side effect of the laser and it generally goes away within a couple months. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with the laser and if it went away? this has been very disorienting for me and I have been fearing losing my peripheral vision. I'm not sure if I am actually losing peripheral vision or if it just feels that way since I have this constant flickering now on the side. I know it's better to be safe than sorry, but a part of me wishes I never did this laser bc its been causing so many issues for me and supposedly the tear had scar tissue from healing itself. If anyone has had any experience with this and would like to share I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi there! 2 weeks ago I had laser to fix 3 retinal holes in each eye (I have high myopia). I've also been experiencing the glimmer in my one eye for the past few days and also have loads of blobby transparent floaters wandering around.. This is driving me crazy and I'm a total nervous wreck! Do the blobs eventually disappear too? Hope your eye problems have resolved.

the glimmer got better for me after about a year. the transparent globby floaters decreased over a year or so. i still have floaters though

Thanks Tiffany 😃 That gives me some hope. Do you have myopia? It's scary to go through something like this. I'm 38 and feel too young for this! I have a transparent blob over my one eye that kinda just doesn't move and is interfering with my vision..that's probably worrying me the most. I wish there was an easy way to reverse bad eyesight!

Hey Noodle, I am 35 and not myopic at all. Just plain bad luck. Do you think the transparent blob is a floater? I have that but mine moves.

Hi Tiffany, sorry for taking a while to reply. Yes they do move around.. I have many transparent blobs like a Vaseline film in both eyes. When I look at bright lights they are more noticeable like a moving haze.. Arg the most annoying and upsetting thing like when I'm at a restaurant I can't enjoy myself because I'm aware of it! I'm just praying it eventually goes away..its been about 3 months now since noticing them and 2 months since laser surgery. Hope your eyes are improving 😃

i had really bad headaches that were with me a long time. the procedure also caused me very dry eye conditions and i have to constantly use drops when i never had to before. try to use lots of preservative free drops.

the flashers well its only a guess but hopefully they only last a year

I had laser treatment for retinal tear 3 months ago on one eye.. Dry eyes started gradually 4 days post surgery in both eyes and now i wake up every hour while asleep. Also experience some headaches.

Did you experience dry eyes and headaches? Are the symptoms still causing issues?

      thank you

hey everyone, I'm 23 years old, high myopic and had retinal detachment surgery in right eye about 6 weeks ago and prophylactic laser treatment in my left eye around a month ago. 5 days after laser I started experiencing flickering lights and a black strand in the corner of my left eye the black line visible only in the dim lights and just two days before I'm having a black spot in the upper middle of left eye. this is making me really anxious and frustrating because my left eye was all okay before laser and now I'm having new symptoms everyday like headache, eye pain and nausea. my doctor says everything is fine and my retina is okay but I'm not satisfied. can anyone of you help me in understanding what is going on and will they improve with time.

    thank you.

Sairah I know exactly how anxious it makes one feel. My ophthalmologist says it's normal to get glimmers and flickering for a few days to weeks after laser as the eye heals. In my case it took about 2 to 3 weeks to disappear.. So don't worry it will go away! The more I stressed out the more I noticed it and freaked out so try to relax, your eyes have been through alot, it just takes time.
