Who is the best sugeon for fitting Ceramic Hip replacment?

I am seeking a surgeon who regularly fits Ceramic hips in to plastic or possibly ceramic cups and is GOOD!

I have an on-going nightmare with incompetant surgeons who do not believe I am allergic to nickel ( present in most metal hips such as the Exeter 316 style hip) and was delighted to discover a surgeon in Wiltshire who does fit these. I was then strongly warned by 2 people not to go to this man as most of his patients are wrecks when he has finished with them.

Frustrated? Moi?! Can anyone advise me?

I gather there is a Mr Latham in Southampton who is excellent but he is not even seeing anyone until Christmas 2014 and no time to operate on any new patients until JULY3015!

I cant even find out if he does Ceramic hips but i know he does fit Titanium Hips which i would be OK with.

Martyn porter Wrightington .. They conduct over 1000 hip replacements a year, he's the medical director there .. Bit more expensive than other surgeons .. However I am one week in from surgery and can walk for over 20 mins .. And little distances without crutches xx

Thanks for your email. Good news about your progress but I will need a tad more information than just a name! Where does Martyn porter Wrightington work from? Which part of the country?

I am seeing a Mr Garrett soon  and hoping he may fit ceramic hips.

    Hi

after 9 failed surgeries on my left hip, my surgeon thought I might be intolerant to metalwork. I had my left hip permanently removed with no hip implanted.

now my right hip has gone and I saw my consultant yesterday.

He said he plans to use bio inert titanium with ceramic coating, and cement the hip, so that the spike (which can't be titanium as it's not strong enough) isn't in contact with me but has the barrier of the cement. He told me these plans yesterday, and rang me this morning to say it will be done this Thursday. My surgeon is wonderful, and i trust him implicitly.

    I love the NHS!

Oops forgot to say, mine was all NHS.

The original bits that went wrong were done in Royal Berks, Reading.

i was refered to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford under Peter McLardy Smith. As I said, I had consultation yesterday, and phone call today telling me he can do the op on Thursday. Don't think BUPA could top that!

I can confirm that Sarah muirhead Allwood is the best, I had THR replacement in October 2009 at the age of 32. I can run around with my son, play golf and more importantly live life totally pain free.

Hi, I was recommended by a very good physio to see Proffesor Ian Stockley. I contacted him through Sheffield Orthopaedics Ltd who are a centre of excellence based in Sheffield. He is in hislate 50s and I had my op with ceramic hip on 29th Dec. I am doing really well now and have the utmost faith in him. Really easy to talk to and will discus any problems of fears you may have. If you can travel to Sheffield you will not be disappointed. Look him up on SOL website.

i am planning to have my left hip replaced hopefully in May with him.

he can see you very quickly if you go private/insurance. I don't know about his NHS waiting list. I am due to see him later this month so could ask the question for you if you need me to.
