Why do most GP's find it difficult to empathise with women with peri/menopause problems

and as I'm writing this a stray tear has just trickled down my cheek
I have had the most awful day after going to see my doctor, I came out feeling like I am a waste of time and my current problems are all related to depression, in fact I am considering changing my practice tommorrow.
For the past three or four days I have felt exhausted, aching and my folks even noticed when they visited yesterday. I constantly pass urine and have no energy.
I hate going to the doctors, but felt it was necessary to be seen and maybe try and get to the bottom of this.................................
Bigg mistake!!! as both the nurse and the GP were just awful..........
I really don't feel the medical profession have any real understanding or compassion for women like me (well us).
Enough said, I will try to get some much needed sleep and hopefully I will feel a bit better tommorrow.
A little compassion would have helped,

but the worst thing is the attitude
go away and get on with it.........................
they just don't think they can help (and don't want to)
I felt like nuisance yesterday
that can't be right
thanks for your input xxx

A total waste of valuable resources and mine and the specialists time!
HRT (which I only sought after the menopause as I didn't know what peri was) has sorted out most of the problems in 8 weeks.
I also had that constant trips to the loo and never ending feeling like I had just started coming down with flu lethargy.
I have been told for the last few years that all my symptoms were down to depression which is lifting nicely now.
Maybe you should change doctor or tell them about this site and how YOU feel it could be menopause related. As they seem almost reluctant to offer it unless you ask.
Hope this helps.

thanks so much for your email, feeling a bit better than earlier (and last night). The whole experience made me feel so depressed. My friend has come round to cheer me up bringing cheese on toast and mars bars. I just didn't feel like going out.
Oh well Nan these things are sent to try us,

How many times have you said to a doctor 'I'm trying sage for the hot flushes' or 'I am taking Black Cohosh or specially formulated vits & mins', and he/she smiles and patronises with 'they are not proven to work, here take this pill instead'.
Of course they are not proven - there is no money in it. You can't patent vitamins, minerals or old fashioned herbal remedies. If the pills aren't working, perhaps it's time we took a second look at our diet and nutrition? Just a thought.

and others, I do feel that some of them have helped,
