Will I experience withdrawls of zoloft after 3 days of taking 25mg?

I have been on zoloft for 3 days 25 mg and I'm having serious side effects I have decided to stop taking and inform my doctor, will I go through withdrawls after only 3 days of 25 mg? I seriously pray not, I have read many of the problems everyone on here has suffered and I have to say I hope things get better for you. I pray I don't suffer the same problems after only 3 days!!

Hi Lori....Poor you.....Three days is a very short time but if it was me,I would be playing safe and perhaps cutting the tablets in half, take half for say 2 days and then quarter that for 2 more days.....I've always done tapering off that way and also when I've started a medication,to try nmaking it easier for my body to cope.Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much Sally, I was thinking the same thing just to play it safe.   I have had leg tremors, nausea, nervousness, lack of energy, and a couple other side effects. I am so upset cause I just started the meds and already having side effects. I can't cope with them so have decided to stop taking them and inform my doctor of the problem. Again thanks for the help Sally and also for your concern. smile

    Hi Lori,

Sorry to hear that but I would be surpirsed if you experienced withdrawl symptoms coming off such a low dose for such a short time.

If you don't mind me asking what were you prescribed the Zoloft for? Was it anxiety?

    James.

      Hi James,

I was prescribed Zoloft for depression and anxiety. I have always had more anxiety than depression, and I would rather have had a anti- anxiety medication and have been on them before. Ativan, Xanax, Buspar, etc. doctors don't want to prescribe those to much anymore due to them being addicting, even though I never abused my meds and only take when I have extreme axiety!! I think all of these anti-depressant will sometimes make you worse than before you started!!  I wouldn't be suprised if I went through withdrawls either...Thanks James for your reply!!

I am exactly the same. I have never been on meds. I have been going thru major anciety and asked my dr several times for help. they only want to put me on depression meds. not depressed. just anxious. I finally relented a week ago and am on Zoloft. I hate taking it and read how hard to get off when one is on it. so I want to get off now. My dr said the same thing, that anxiety is addictive..I told her it sounds like antidepressants are as well then if you have to wean off of them. she said, well you got me there. still would not give me nerve pills tho. ridiculous!

    Hi Lori,

sorry to hear it is not agreeing with you. Insofar that everybody has their own response to the medication, I would have to say they may have their own experience of withdrawal.

Having said that, I have been reducing down from 150mg, in 50mg steps, giving it a couple of weeks between steps, and the worst I have felt is a tiny bit flu-ey when I am tired.

I would think the most reassuring aspect is the short time you have been taking them - given that the period for loading the dose is 6-8 weeks, I should think it unlikely you would have any major problem; hopefully the side-effects will go as quickly as they appeared!

Good luck and keep us posted.

      Hi Oliver

Thank you for your response, I am weining myself off slowly and praying that everything goes well. I'm really shocked to know you can develope so many side effects from some Medication in such a short time!! Really I should have known, considering it happens to me all the time. My body rejects a lot of medications!! Thanks again

Hi Lori...if u feel u really must come off them I would agree with tapering off slowly as someone else suggested. I know it's only 3 days & low dose but I wouldn't stop immediately..maybe 25mg every 2nd day for few days then 12.5mg for couple of days..but talk to your doctor first.  I have recently come off 75mg which I was on for 18 months..did it very slowly & no bad side effects. Am very tired but don't know if that's even anything to do with it! U know it's quite possible that your body will adjust to them & the side effects will ease off because this is a low dose but if u really want to stop them I would say taper off over a few days. Hope u feel better soon.

      Hi Cherry,

Thanks for your reply, yep I am tapering myself of slowly due to the fact that I now know you can develope withdrawls! Also my doctor will not be in until Monday so I know my body and how I always seem to develope side effects from medications, just didn't think it would happen so fast!! Thanks for the advice and I will definitely taper off slowly. I just pray the side effects don't linger long!!  Thanks again for your reply  I will definitely keep everyone updated.

    Hello everyone,

I  would like to thank everyone with the help and advice they have given me, I really needed that and the support I received was awesome and to know that people in the world still care and are willing to help is a wonderful feeling. I'm so glad I found this site it feels good to know I'm not the only person suffering from anxiety and depression. I am feeling a little better I guess the Zoloft had to get into my system but the side effects were awful though. Still slowly tapering off though.

Hi lori I know this was a year ago for you so sorry to bring you back into this but I'm having the same problem. Only took 2, 50mg tablets over 2 days and had a very bad reaction. The dr told me to stop instantly. But I've been feel feeling dreadful ever since, very fast heart in the morning, sickness tired, (9 days since last tablet) how long until you felt back to yourself. I'm desperate for an answer but my DR won't say. Sorry again for bring this back up for you. I've had a chat to others on this site but spotted this and wondered if u could help me. Xx

Hi abbie can you give me an update on how long your side effects lasted, like you I only took for 2 days (50mg) and then stopped due to feeling really unwell, the first day I literally felt sedated for a good amount of hours to then feeling wired by the end of the day I was so drained, the second day I just slept, lost all my appetite, and found myself in a state of feeling really unwell, the third day I woke up feeling numb, emotional, physically, my face, hands had stunted feeling, my feet, I could move but all the nerves that feel in my body was gone, I was so worried and unwell I ended up in hospital, and the doctor really didn't have a clue what the drug was he googled up the side effects of the drug for god sake, he did do blood tests and urine which came back a low white blood cell count which he said could be the medication I didn't really get any answers. I stopped taking the tablet that day, and it has just became alot worse, iv lost about 10lbs in the last 3/4 days, I rang my doctors because I felt worse and the he didn't even know anything about the drug even tho he prescribed it me, I didn't many answers from him either when I said I could feel anything he was concerned but after looking the drug up said numbness was listed as a side effect, I do feel a little better today after forcing myself to eat a little more then I have the last few days, but still numb, it's like the signals my brain should be sending my body to tell me if I'm hungry, need a toilet, have gone! When I pinch myself i dont feel it I'm so worried ??

Hi Shane, i am in the same boat. I'm curious to how you are feeling now. I hope better. I was prescribed zoloft about 3 months ago for mild anxiety. Took it for two weeks, had terrible side affects felt flu like, diarrhea, and sharp pains that would come and go in my temples. I stopped the 25mg a day most symptoms subsided after a week..exce

Except for the headaches. I'm still getting them off and on for three months since starting that med. I've been to the desk had tests to rule out anything else. I'm convinced the zoloft did this to me. I can only hope that this will get better.
