Winter wonderland

Hi all, I have awoken this morning to a lighter dawn - yes we have snow. Not as much as some parts of Yorkshire but enough to look absolutely beautiful. A blanket of pure white across everything, quite eerie as it also muffles sound and there is nobody else around as yet, no traffic noise, and not even any birds to break the silence.
However, this means I shall struggle to get about today, my main shopping day. Though I have shopped on-line I prefer to see what I am buying and don't believe their substitutions are always necessary. Still, that will be later on. For now I will enjoy my coffee and toast in this peaceful wonderland. I had quite forgotten how amazing the sight of virgin snow is.
I hope everyone is well, keeping warm and feeling as peaceful as I feel this morning.

What a lovely vision your post conjured up. We have no snow as yet but I am sure it will not be long. You are right though, it is easy to forget the sheer beauty of it when we generally recall grey slush and wet feet and cold noses.
I hope we all keep warm today and travel safely

Oh Dear, the white stuff I so eagerly anticipated has not arrived - just some frosted roof tops. Not giving up hope entirely though, as the forecasters seem to be saying that the whole of the UK could pretty much become one big heap of snow over the coming couple of weeks. Failing that, loads of cotton wool beneath the Xmas tree and on the window sills will have to suffice . Very poor substitute though. ( .... no, I haven't put the tree up JUST yet ...... am doing my best to hold off 4 more days!).

We had a light dusting of snow last night, no thaw today, it is always very quiet after a falling of snow but is as you say Jaycee a beautiful sight.
Keep warm all and enjoy the snow scenes :D
Wrap up warm and take care if you do go out.

Light snow in Suffolk too. A real snow flurry this morning was fantastic to see..yes you do forget how beautiful snow is.
Van, Interesting re. trees this Christmas. My tree usually goes up a week before Christmas . This year though I am itching to get one up tomorrow. I was speaking to an assistant in sainsburys today and she agrees she also knows lots a people who are getting their trees up early too. Maybe we all need cheering up hey after all these cuts and talk of recession and job losses. Or maybe the early snow is encouraging us..
Personally, my reasoning is that I buy a real 6ft tree each year, it is a struggle to get it home, get it up etc. With this condition I just feel it I am making this effort hen I want to enjoy it for the longest time.
Happy Winter everybody xxxx

Flossie, I am sat typing this and looking out at a delicate pink sky, from which is drifting large flakes of snow. Not sure I will get out tomorrow but it is sooooooooooooo beautiful to watch.

Oooh that sounds magical. Our snow melted off this morning.
I did buy a tree though, got it up in the house. the compromise is I won't dress it until 1st ...just got the decorationss down ....
Usually I am a week from Christmas, presents not wrapped or many not bought. It can can really stressful. I have lost count of the Christmas eves I have spent running round the shops getting last minute pressies, wrapping all night..This year I really want to be able to relax and do the Xmas parties, have people around in a relaxed atmosphere. Not worrying I really should be out late night shopping!
I have always been a bit of a stress junkie and I dont want to be one this year
Jacee, lying in the sun sounds fantastic, it must improve your health and just generally cheer you up so much. When do you fly out?
Last year I bought a small tree in a pot which actually looked really sweet. The idea is you can use them every year (mine looks half dead though this year)! They are easy to carry and move about, take no time to dress and you can just move them into the garden when Christmas is over.
Have a good week everybody xxxxxxxx

I was also a stress junkie and was probably the one behind you in the queue on Christmas eve. This was until three Christmases ago when, having been ill, we decided to go away and rest over Christmas rather than have all the stress of shopping, decorating, cooking, entertaining, etc - I just was not up to it that year. So, I had to get organised, buy and wrap gifts in plenty of time, so that I could pack and go away. It worked wonders for my organising skills!
This year we leave on the 20th, returning on 27th December, as we like new year at home. Then, feeling rested, I can hopefully do the entertaining bit and have everyone around. I have only two gifts left to buy.
Hope you have a lovely Christmas. :holly:

I've just said no thank you to supply teaching for Thursday. Why would I want to get up, scrape my car and set off in ice and snow if I don't have to????

I'm just slowly but surely 'spring cleaning' the lounge, ready to put the tree up tomorrow. I've kept my 02 on, backpack style, and moving the sofa etc. was a doddle - just took it all slowly - but for some reason, just doing that back and forth movement with the hoover really messes up my breathing and still has me gasping even with the 02.
As always, I bemoan the fact that we are so geographically challenged - were that we were closer - we could have gathered around coffee and cup cakes !....
