Work and feeling down.

Had a visit from work yesterday, it's brought it home that in about 4 weeks, I will be back at work.

They said, when I'm ready to go back, if I need it they will find light duties somewhere, possibly another dept. I have anxiety problems so I only want to go back on my own dept.  Might be selfish, but at the moment, I just don't want to go back.  I will probably be ok though, when I do go.

I'm 8 weeks and still using a stick outside, I had a rough night, the night before, so was tired yesterday.which probably didn't help. Don't see my consultant for another two weeks.

Sorry, been a misery.

Lynn xx

This site is about lots of things - but is especially important as a safe place to let your real feelings out.

12 weeks does appear to be a normal time (as it was in my case) for the body to heal, but it does not necessarily follow tha the mind will. I would think that going back to the safety of your own department would be important and should not be taken lightly.

People do try to help but don't necessarili 'hear' what we are actually saying.

4 weeks is a long time, so enjoy the ride for now.

I'm just a worry wart, always have been, but I had an arthroscopy on my knee, six yr ago and when I went back to work it was really difficult, even though it was phased in, had pain and had not stopped limping,, which is why I think I'm worried.

Going to buy a bar of chocolate, watch a film and get it out of my head for now.

      Thank you

    hello Lynn,

sorry to hear you are having a miserable day! I can sympathise with you about work, I have actually been in for a half day this week and it actually wiped me out. I'm not due back until at least 6 weeks post op, and I am currently 3.5.but I couldn't believe how tiring it was. I have very down days having been a very fit, yoga mad 60yo. I had a freak fall at work and broke my hip and then had a THR.To say I went into shock is an understatement.Recovery is going well, but as all these lovely hippies state on this forum, we are all different and all have different strengths and problems. Could you ask to start off part time when you go back and ease back gently.

Good luck with your continued recovery and keep smiling

      Hi Alipet,

I will probably be fine tomorrow, everyone seems to  have their downers with this op, which is understandable, it's a big op. Your brave going in even for a short while., don't rush back though. I had most of my down days the first few weeks, it is hard.

Will you go back to your yoga later? Gosh you must of fallen really hard, not good. How are you feeling at the moment? I agree, such a good site, nobody gets dissed only helped.

Think I will have to have phased in, I work 6 and 7hours on my feet and the job is very physical.

      Thank you

    Hi Lynn,

Starting work again must be a huge step but I think in another 4 weeks you will feel different again.  Imagine, how you, how we all, felt at the beginning of our journeys in those rough few days after the operation and how much our bodies have healed so far.  You have healed so much in 8 weeks and you have half that time again to heal more.  Go back to your own department where you feel secure, and just see what you can do.  The hardest thing will be taking that first step but once those first few days over and done with and you may surprise yourself.

    Sending hugs, Cels xxx

      Hiya Cels,

You are so right, I even managed some walking without the stick today outside, not brilliant, but tried. Oh I remember very well, took two weeks to get myself into bed lol I have just walked nearly 4 mile again this morning.

My friend at work said the same thing, just go back to my own job and see how it goes, I would feel better on my own dept.

Thank you my hippie friends, sometimes you just need to let loose with the feelings to help you overcome them.

Going back to work is a big step - I have found it hard after 12 weeks post revision, but then I have been off for 22 weeks (5 months) in total.

Working in London, I have a nasty commute too - and I am finding it VERY tiring even though I am only doing 3 days of reduced hours, slowly building up to full time, and 'just' have a desk job.

      Hi Graham,

I suppose it is,, I guess once I'm in the building I'll feel different.

When you think about it you have had nearly half a year off work, it will take time, but I don't think people realise how much it takes out of you. Not Just a desk job, that means sitting around more than your used to, which does not help.  Do you always get a seat when your commuting, I find standing too long uncomfortable?
