i am a 50 year old male and 5 weeks ago i had a cystoscopy and was told by the specialist that everything seemed ok i had this test because there were traces of blood in my urine and now 5 weeks later my doctor wants to see me,why would the doctor need to see me if the specialist said everything was ok?the practice nurse telephoned me this morning and said my doctor had received a letter from the specialist and the doctor wants to see me but said it was nothing urgent and nothing to worry about but i am worried, there would be no reason for the doctor needing to see me if everything was ok can anyone help please?

If they said don;t worry... don't worry. At your age they probaby want to warn that your prostate is slightly enlarged.

Did you ask him to explain what was showing on the screen as he was doing the procedure? I had a cystoscopy of Friday and noticed something on my prostate that had not been there the last time and was told that it was a nodule that he was not concerned about although 50% of nodules can become malignant.

PS the blood could have been caused by a burst blood vessel. I've had that diagnosis a few times.

Have you made an appointment yet? Possibly you doctor just wants to reaasure you though 50 is the age that prostates start to grow. At that age I was told to keep an eye on mine. How does one do that? It was 16 years before it became a problem.

I've had type 2 diabetes for 20 years and almost every time I get my urine checked they tell me there are traces of blood in it.  I've had  treatment for a few infections but a couple of years ago I had a cystoscopy because when I went to the toilet it looked as if I had poured a jar of beetroot into the pan!   There was nothing found on the cystoscopy or CT scan and it was put down to a burst blood vessell and I haven't had it since.   I don't think your surgery would tell you that there's nothing to worry about if there was.  I have rung for results and altough they can't tell you the result themselves if you ask "Is it anything to worry about?" they'll say "Don't worry" so I know what the result will be before I speak to a doctor.   I expect all your doctor wants to say that you are coming up to an age when you need to be on the lookout for things that may not even happen but better to be prepared.

    Hi Andrew,

sorry to hear that you are worried again - I had a cystoscopy the same time as you, and I was told no cancer, but keep an eye on things, as I had lost quite a lot of blood in my urine.  I have had pain since and had another scan of other organs - still could not find anything.  I am now waiting for a ct scan - suspect kidney stones as I have pain in that area. I feel confident that if there had been anything serious, I would have been told.  So to try and reassure you, I think the other comments are right, maybe they just want to discuss things with you for the future. Please let us know when you have seen your GP.  Good luck x

Hi Andrew. I used to work at a gp surgery. I would imagine the dr has called you in as even tho the cystoscopy showed nothing, the reason for the blood needs further investigation or at least keepin an eye on. So they will prob just call u in to explain this & the next path forward. Please dont worry yourself unneccesarily. smile

thank you i went yesterday you are correct although he wants me to do another urine sample for protein heaven knows what that's for im not going to google it lol x

Why did you not ask him?

A very tiny amount of protein in your urine may be common from time to time, but a larger amount of protein in your urine may be an early sign of kidney disease.

One worries about the unknown more than the reality.

Glad things are o.k. Andrew.  Like you, I am fed up of going Drs this year.  I've had appt through today for my ct scan - next Thurs, so at least I've not had to wait long for it.  Oh well hopefully things will settle soon.
