worried

Hello, a few days ago I had a really sore and itchy genital. I have found some lumps (they don't hurt to touch but it is generally sore!). I went to the clinic and they did a test for herpes which I get back next week, but did say I had BV so gave me some medication to treat that. Could this also be herpes? I am really anxious and worried.

Hi guess the first question would be have you had any unprotected/protected sexual activity recently?

Hey! Yes I have, around 4 weeks ago.

No problem - sorry if it seems like I am being nosey, but do you know this person as you could ask them if they have the virus etc....
Its good you went to the clinic and got them swabbed, have they opened yet? Any groin pain, flu symptoms etc.

No not at all, I appreciate the help. I did ask, and he doesn't have it but I know sometimes it can be undetected. The haven't opened, and there was a couple that have just disappeared since starting the thrush treatment. I felt sick last night, but assumed it was the medication.
Does it look like herpes?

Personally I dont think they look like the classic OB of HSV - would you say the medication they prescribed for BV is helping with the pain and inflammation?
I would personally wait till your swab results are returned and not have any further sexual activity till you know

That's some relief - thank you. Yeah, the treatment has helped already (it was painful to pee, but already doesnt hurt at all) and so does ibuprofen / other painkillers.
Will definitely stay clear of sex until I know for sure though. It was a swab and blood test so hopefully itll be conclusive.
Thanks so much for your response!

Yes I am hoping that you are clear - would you please let us know when you get the results? When are they due in?

Most certainly - the doctor said I should have them within a week, so should hopefully be before Tuesday. I'll update you as soon as I hear back 😃

that's so odd. what do the lumps look like? and the lumps turned into that? hopefully its some sort of rash bc it doesn't resemble herpes right away. have you used anything different down there lately

Excuse my ignorance BUT the second picture looks like a spot with a head on it - the first one, to the left there is flaking skin, are these blisters that have burst? Where you arrow is I cant see anything.

I told the doc that I had dyed my hair in the shower, so wondered if that could've got down there? Also had been using fragranced soap which I have now stopped.
Ive not seen any blisters, and none that have popped previously. Also, in the morning, I woke up to some discharge that was white and clumpy (no smell)...

@kay19801 is a spot with a head on it indicative of herpes? or just a normal spot?

No a spot with a head is indicative of a spot which are very very common with those that shave down there.
I think you have to remember that the majority (not all) of HSV OB's are painful, blisters that form, sometimes you will get groin pain, flu symptoms & to the extent that you cant sit, pee etc due to the virus.
Just as a side note - please dont use fragranced soaps down there, it will cause thrush, use Femfresh which is not fragranced and still has the ability to clean the area OR just plain water, the flora of your vagina has got its own discharge which is needed as the vagina cleans itself in a way - when you use stuff like soaps, different washing powders etc it can potentially upset the natural flora in vagina hence thrush....
Clumpy, white cottage cheese like consistency of vaginal discharge is indicative of Thrush - FYI Thrush does not cause sores....

Okay, thank you so much for your help I really do appreciate it.
I have had a fever and chill, but also have a sniffly nose so think its just a cold? It is painful to pee (although this improved with the thrush medication), it has returned.
Will just try and curb the anxiety until I get some test results back I guess!

Sometimes thrush can hurt to pee due to irritation.
Its normal to be anxious, but keep in mind that if it is HSV its not the end of your life 😃

I think thats what I am most worried about, just the stigma associated with it and managing future flare ups. Sorry if personal but do you have it? Would be super interested to know how you manage if the tests do come back positive.

No I dont have it BUT I know 2 people that have contracted it in their teens and I have seen the physical and emotional sides that go with the virus, they live perfectly natural lives, one has had a baby about 2 years ago and the other is happily married.
So.....IF and a big IF your results are positive will you be talking to the person you recently slept with?

Ah that is good then! Just worry that people would be put off by this. Yes, I'll definitely be speaking to him about it for sure!
