Worried it's back elsewhere......

I have shingles across my stomach going on 4 weeks now with severe back pain which is almost intolerable.  I am very worried

that it's somehow gotten into my eye on the same side.  It's been watering constantly for the last couple days and now I feel like there's a bump in the corner of my eye.  Is this possible?  The shingles have finally started to clear up with scabs but unfortunately the back pain is still pretty severe.  I am now worried about what's going on with my eye and wonder if it's somehow gotten in there????

Yes. Shingles anywhere near the eye should be treated aggressively. If it is in the eye you must see an ophthalmologist. Shingles can cause blindness. I have a friend whose mother has Shingles spread to her eye. She lost her vision and within 6months her life. She was a frail elderly woman who was weakened by other health issues. The dtr. Said the pain in the eye was unbearable! ³

Can I just ask, you know when you get the blisters (anyone), if you pop them and rub your eye... may sound silly, but what does popping them do, is it just they can get infected versus actually spreading it to another part of the body by forgetting to wash hands and so on?

      Jim,

Needless to say, you shouldn't be popping the blisters. If it is shingles, you will not spread it to yourself, but could conceivably infect someone with chickenpox.

If it is something else, you certainly could spread whatever you have to another part of your body, a wider circumference, or to someone else.

See a physician on Monday, please.

      Merry Juliana
