Worried sexual dysfunction is permanent

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi I'm in my twenties and was on venlafaxine for four days. Took 1 Tuesday 1 Wednesday 2 thurs and 2 Friday. I straight away noticed bad side effects. Couldn't get erection at all and lost all interest in sex. But I'm really really worried because four days after stopping I've noticed no change and feel worried that this is permanent. I understand that had I been taking for a long time it might take some time but I only took for four days surely it should have come back by now,

Thanks and I appeciate any replies. Hope everyone is doing well x

Think you need to give the drug a good few days to clear your system. What were you prescribed Venflaxine for ? Was it depression if so depression itself can effect erections ?

I can say I have had any issue  in that department, that said the los of intrest is something that everyone gets

I think your at the point where the worry is getting to you. Its worth talking with your GP to see if they can help calm you so you can relax.

The signs of no sex drive can be you still recovering from depression. But its important that someone from a medical background at least offers you some help

Hi dont worry dont believe its permanent as I have been on and off it for approx 20 years and Its not permanent with me(Im 51)!! This like any drug for depression take a while to get properly into the sysytem with all benefits and also the same coming off. I have had to go on  venlafaxine again and although it stumps your labedo, it takes and a bit more to get excited (whatever turns you on - maybe a porno), you may be get a tingling under your testicles after ejaculation, you may not be able to ejaculate but stay erect, you will still be able please and satisfy your partner. My wife never complains, but is understanding at times. I have had these  different side effects dependant on how much I have had to take - and not always on the strongest dose, it always depends on the individual and you have to wait about a month after starting your meds for your meds to have full effect and for it to balance you. Hope this helps. Rob

    Hello you

It is so very, very unlikely that you have a long standing problem.

I think it is far more likely that your erectile dysfunction is the result of the depression, rather than the Venlafaxine.  It is a very common symptom of depression amongst men.

You haven't given the Venlafaxine a chance to help you - it takes at least two weeks, taking it daily, for people to feel better after starting to take it.

I can understand your reluctance to conitnue to do so, but please bear in mind that so many people writing to this site (understandably) tend to confuse the symptoms of the disease with the potential side effects of the drug.

I send you very good wishes, and hope that the Christmas, that can be so difficult for all people suffering from depression is a fun one for you,

    Best wishes

Although generally in daily life I'm doing really well and happy but I still have the same problem. Over a week no change Is quite frightening. I'm pretty sure they would be out if my system now, literally too 6 pills in 4 days and everything has changed. All I can do I guess is wait and hope x

Its a difficult topic to discuss and sex is such a big thing in todays world. You should be proud that you have the courage to address whats happening and get help and advice from others.

Hello jimmy, know I'm sorta fishing for reassurance but I still have same problem week and half since I took those pill. I guess some of it is in my head but i only took 6 pills and wen I was in citalopram I never had such a problem. Even in past if I've been anxious I've never had problems. I'm wondering whether I should see a doctor. Sucks big time x

I think your at the point where the worry is getting to you as I said above. I think a doctor will be able to give you much more reassurance and maybe able to help you de stress about situation. The fact your worried about it wont help, and thus make it difficult
