Worse pain after back surgery

For about five or six years I had pain in my butt when I walked very far. I had all sorts of tests run and they decided it was my back that was causing the problem. I really never had any back pain at the time. They decided I needed surgery on my back. In November 2013, they did a spinal fusion on my lower back. Thats when I started to get pain in my back as well as my left leg and both feet. I get a burning sensation in my back and feet. At times I can't stand anything touching my feet. The doctor that did the surgery just threw up his hands and said there is nothing else he could do. It seems to me that there is something that can be done. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi phi rebut, I'm sorry to hear you are in more pain now than before you had your surgery. I hope you surgeon had done a full mri on you spine before doing a spinal fusion. It could be a nerve that has been damaged that is causing you pain and nerves do grow back. Personally I would find another reputable surgeon and find out if there is anything they can do to help you. Take care and good luck, Gizmo

I would suggest that you get a sexondopinion from a neuro surgeon. I have just recently (6 weeks ago) had a two level spinal fusion at l4 l5 s1 and the third disc stabilised and already so much of an improvement.. Hope you become pain free soon

Sara, I don't know what a "sexondopinion" is but it sounds like more back pain to me.  LOL. Sorry, I had to say that. I am having trouble with added letters as well as other issues with this forum as well.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I already have a second opinion in the works.

Possibly a wronly placed screw pressing on a nerve. I was told before my op that there is a risk that screws can be slightly misplaced but was correctable if happened. If so it is correctable, good luck

They have done mri and ct after and they said nothing about a misplaced screw.  Thanks for the info

I have found that one spinal units sees a connection with infection but does not treat. My spasms definitely relate as uti medication resolved pain not spasicity spasms.Hower TENS machines & acupuncture cupping when acute did .Have had to pay for expensive MRI & they suggested injections .Have not had a spasm since except a leg twinge this time which righted itself.

Hi I have just joined this forum and i am sorry to hear this as its very debilitating for you. I hope you get a 2nd opinion. I underwent a spinal fusion at 2 levels 3 weeks ago after bad buttock, leg and foot pain and after undergoing a discectomy 8 months ago which didnt work for my lower back pain but got rid of leg pain i got a 2nd opinion.

I am currently seeking a second opinion, but the process is very slow. I may have to go out of the area because it's a small area here and I believe all the neurosurgeons are in cahoots with each other.  Where are you from and did a neurosurgeon do your operation?
