Worse pain after back surgery

For about five or six years I had pain in my butt when I walked very far. I had all sorts of tests run and they decided it was my back that was causing the problem. I really never had any back pain at the time. They decided I needed surgery on my back. In November 2013, they did a spinal fusion on my lower back. Thats when I started to get pain in my back as well as my left leg and both feet. I get a burning sensation in my back and feet. At times I can't stand anything touching my feet. The doctor that did the surgery just threw up his hands and said there is nothing else he could do. It seems to me that there is something that can be done. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi I am from Wales United Kingdom. I had a neurosurgeon mr Paul Rhys Davies. I had an anterior lumbar fusion through the stomach.

Never heard of that. Tell me more. Why did they go thru the stomach?

Lol. It's a small country about 100 mile drive from London, England. It's where Tom Jones famous singer is from. Have you heard of him? Where are you from? They go through the stomach to avoid cutting through major muscle and tissue which helps the healing process. My scar is alongside my belly button approximately 5 inches. It's been 3 weeks since surgery and its not sore my stomach now. I was in hospital for 6 days. I can't turn over in bed very well without discomfort and i am doing everything slow. I am 41 i never expected to have had 2 back operations in 8 months. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering, its so debilitating

My pain varies from day to day.  Yesterday was a bad day. Today not so bad.  One of my biggest problems is the surgery left me with neuropathy in my feet. They always feel lik they are in very hot water, or someone driving nails in them.  Maybe the latter is from a past life. (toungue in cheek LOL) My right theigh is numb and at times feels like someone using a wire brush on it.

    Hi Laura

I've heard a lot about going in through the stomache as it means cutting through a lot less muscle. I have had a 3 level fusion (well 2 level fusion then third level stabilised with a flexi rod and screws so a total of 3 rods and many screws. I am 7 weeks past surgery but they went through the back. Still sore but moving around lots now, trying To walk a mile a day and cycle on a static bike for 10 mins at the moment. Some Days are better than others and I find if I do too much I suffer that evening and the next day. I am  hoping things will get better in time. I feel for anyone who suffers with severe back and sciatic Pain and hopefully things will get better for you.

The crazy world of back pain and surgery. Of all the things I don't understand about my pain after surgery, is golfing.  I went golfing on Thursday, 12 holes. Saturday, I went 15 holes and on Sunday 18. No pain durring golf except when I walked very far, the pain in my butt, but my back did not hurt and it still feels good. I figured that if I'm gonna hurt doing nothing to hurt it, I'm gonna have a reason for the pain. Pleasant suprise, or do I have some not so good suprise coming up?
