X-rays

Hi all, I've got my surgery on the 9th Feb but my X-rays are over a year old now. Does having new ones make a difference? does everyone get new X-rays before surgery?

Hi Joanne, at the time of my pre op, my xray was over a year old. They organised it then and there to have a new one done as I was told the surgeon uses it to guage the length of the prosthetic. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dawn, I had my pre-op on the 30th Dec and nobody said anything about X-rays, I wish I'd thought about it then.

You're not alone in not thinking about it at the time of the pre op! It was the ward sister that mentioned it to me. I guess worse case scenario they could xray on the day if your surgeon is concerned about the age of the image.

All the best to you for the 9th. ☺

That's true, I wondered if they might X-ray on the morning of surgery. Thank you smile

It seems prudent to obtain a fresh view of the situation, but then again, the surgeon will see first hand when he gets in there.  My surgeon was all about x-rays because it reveals helpful information before and after.

Sure wish you the best on the 9th and keep us posted!

    Hi Joanne

Its great you have a date for your op. It doesnt really matter that your xray is over a year old as you will soon be having a new hip, Xrays are generally used to determine how urgently you need surgery. You should have your next xray after your surgery before you leave hospital (UK).

Best of luck for the 9th!

That puts my mind at rest a bit. I thought I would need new ones to show changes. Thank you Linnet

      Hi Joanne

You may have another xray before the op that will depend on your surgeon but the main thing is that you have a date for your op 😀
