Xolair works wonders for CHRONIC HIVES! I saw results immediately

Posted , 47 users are following.

Please try Xolair shots, I had horribly hives for months and months that wouldn't go away with diet or anything. It is a fairly new medicine, but I saw results right away. I have gotten the shot 4 times now, (4 months) and I haven't had a hive in weeks!

are you recieving xolair through the nhs or privately? x

I'd love to know if anyone here is in the UK and getting Xolair, either through the NHS or privately. I wonder how much it would cost privately. I'm having good luck with Paroxetine the past month to control the itching and am off Doxepin so not hungry and drowsy all the time. Although, I just came out in flushing / hives after being out in the park with my daughter with a cold wind.

      Hi Kirsty,

I am in the US - and have insurance through Blue Cross, Blue Shield, where I only pay a $30 copay per shot (once a month). My sister attends St. Andrews in Scotland, and I know how hard the NHS can be about presciptions, she had the worst time getting them to OK her accutane.

      Good luck to you.

Desmond, Xoliar only became public and insurance covered last March of 2014. My hives began Feb of 2014, I am extremely lucky to be in a position where my insurance covers this medication. I know people that have paid a few thousands out of pocket each shot, and my heart breaks for them.

      Hi Jill

I am in the US also.....and feel very fortunate for insurance.  How are you doing with the Xolair injections?  How many have you had so far?  Are they keeping the hives away.....sad to hear that after four shots, Kristy shared they were wearing off and she was getting the hives back.  Would love to hear how you are doing.  I live in Virginia.

      thanks

Yes I have had four injections of xolAir and helped at the time but now there wearing off the rashes are just as bad again they haven't covered it on the nhs yet which I think is ridiculous as so many people need it badly! My private insurance only allowed me to have four injections at St Mary's private hospital in London and each infection was £1,200 and I had four so the total was £4.800 which is a complete joke but they are so worth it! Let's hope that they put it on the nhs soon!!!

      Hi Kirsty

i just had my second Xolair shot.  Before my first one my hives were SEVERE!! After the second day I was hive free.....a couple weeks later I started to get some hives upon waking but they would wear off by afternoon.  After this second shot I am still getting them but not bad and not itchy.  I just got off low dose of prednisone 5mg and take 1 Zyrtec a day.  Did you still get some hive after your shots.  You mentioned that after 4 shots of Xolair it is wearing off and you have hives back?? Are you going to continue the shots?  What does your doctor say? Are you taking any other meds to try to get rid of the hives?  Do you know of others that have success with Xolair long term? We need to pray that someone will find a cure for this Chronic Urticaria!!

i look forward to your reply!

      thanks

Hiya yes I did still get rashes I've had them for a year now they have improved slightly from the injections but not completely my private insurance won't cover me for any more injections as they are so expensive so looks like I'll just have to suffer until they finally go or there's some sort of solution!!!

I am taking 3 fexofenadine tablets at 180mg each tablet and I find they really help take the itchiness away for me and can really tell if I miss one effects me.

      Hi Kristy

i hope that your private insurance will cover these Xolair injections soon for you and all who need it!  They are covered here in the states if nothing else works...which was my case.  As I said to Jill...we need a CURE for Urticaria.! Let's keep each other posted even across the ocean!

      have a good evening!

      Hi Kristy

how are you doing without the Xolair?  Is there a change?  Did the Xolair help at least to lessen the hives while you were taking shots?  I'm still getting the hives upon waking each morning..after second shot on second week.  Taking 1 fexofinadine in the am and 1 in the evening...still breakout.....not as severe as before Xolair.....but enough to be concerned.

Let us all know how you are doing.

      thanks

      Wendy

I approve. I am going into 4 years with my chronic hives and my Xolair is helping me more than my previous meds smile

I've been on Xolair for 6 months now. I've not had a hive since I started. I'm taking walks, running, lifting weights and even having drinks. I take an injection once a month

Hellooo, I'm in the uk and have chronic urticaria and some cases I get angioedema swollen around my eyes etc, had it for over 15 years now on and off. It's killing me mentally, its so demoralising. I go the gym, lift a weight and the next day my hands are swollen and the inside of my hands come out in small red blotches, I can never seem to get into a good routine because of them, am I on my own here or does anyone else suffer from these sort of symptoms? Xolair looks and sounds amazing though?

Yes Jaime, I've had similar symptoms now for 9 months. The only thing that has worked is a daily singular, 20mg cetrizine, and variable doses of prednisone. any pressure at all causes a bad breakout. I looked like a hunchback after getting a massage this past January. It also seems to worsen when I eat foods with high gluten content (beer, bread, pasta). I've ordered my first Xolair injection this week. I'll keep you posted to whether it seems to work for my pressure urticaria.

      Hi Jamie

I had urticaria for 16 years 😩 and have just been given the approval for Xolair on NHS you have to get referral from GP to dermatologist the referral to a Urticaria specialist I’m under Dr Grattan at Guys hospital London they then try to get the condition under control with higher dose of drugs and if that fails you have to do a score card for 3 weeks to see if you qualify but they don’t like to give it to anyone  as it’s expensive.

      Good luck

Jamie I too get angiodemo in my  eyes, lip, sinus and bottoms of feet and hands, but only sometimes. Mostly it's hives all over with an added angioedema. 2 months ago I started with hives again after not having any for over a year. I took the Xolair shot for 10 months and had a breakthru of hives so my Dr stopped the Xolair shot. He's trying, with a cocktail of meds to get me off prednisone so I can participate in a hive study that he had going on. Those of you that are not taking  prednisone should look into hive studies, very beneficial. In most cases They also pay you and meds are free.  Right now I'm on a histamine free diet, look it up. Also check out this guy who also had CIU, Joe cross
