Xolair works wonders for CHRONIC HIVES! I saw results immediately

Please try Xolair shots, I had horribly hives for months and months that wouldn't go away with diet or anything. It is a fairly new medicine, but I saw results right away. I have gotten the shot 4 times now, (4 months) and I haven't had a hive in weeks!

I have had hives for 15 years for no know reason, i finally found a dr that gave me xolair in november last year.... instant relief and continued then december i got a shot in december, perfect for the holidays first time in years i was able to make and keep plans without waiting to see how i felt with hives. well my insurance denied approval for xolair in january and i had to try singular for a few weeks, nope didnt work so last week i got another round of xolair in hoipes that i will feel the same relief as last time, however it doesnt seem to be working like it did at first. im still fighting hives and get the sick feeling in my belly, there are so many ways this has effected my body i couldnt even list them here in one day. Im wondering if the month that i skipped due to insurance purposes has ruined my chance at a good thing. has this aloud my body to build a tolerance to xolair and its just not going to work now or am i jusmping the gun and worried to much, i need to give it more time and pray it works eventually sad

Stacy, I realized that I am replying to a 7 month old post, but as I was reading multiple post, one line that you said caught my eye.  I have never heard anybody else say that when they have a breakout their belly doesn't feel good.  Mine either.  Not "sick", not like I can't function, but just doesn't feel right and eating seems to help it feel better, thus, I snack a lot, and along with on going prednisone, I am gaining weight.  This is still so unbelievable to me --- how I could break out and now 4 months later after all kinds of meds and even one round of Xolair injections, I am STILL breaking out.  Reducing my steroids down to 10 mgs allows break outs to start again.  Of course, I also take 3 AH daily, plus larger doses of Rantidine and then I have to take a low dose xanax to sleep....or 2-3 benedryl.  My belly just never feels really right when I'm broke out.....is this a common symptom?  I'm sure, having suffered for 15 years, (which I CANNOT imagine) , you are certainly somewhat of an expert.  I would appreciate your response.... Thanks!

I'm not sure about the gap but have read where other people had the same thing happen. My Dr has me on a cocktail of zyrtec, doxepin at night, 2 Allegra in the am, also weaning off prednisone. Currently on 28mg, go down 1mg every 3 days. But in the past I've also been on Zantac. Doxepin and Zantac have histamine blockers. Ask your Dr. Before trying any of these. Everyone is different.

Thank you so much for this feedback smile i am due to start my injections on the 14th of this month and i am super nervous! On the other hand i am super excited for these hives to go away for good. Will i have to have these shots for the rest of my life or will they stop once the hives are gone for good?

they say everyone is different, some people need them once a month, some need them every few months and i know of one person who got one round of shots and never needed them again (*so far). i did finally start getting relief form these 3rd round after i figured out htat you can not drink excessive amounts (3-4 cups a day) of grapefruit juice, seems the shot doesnt work well with grapefruit juice. just something to keep in mind, however im not a dr and that is just my experience but i couldnt figure out why they werent working for me this time then i cut out grapefruit juice and in just a few days i was fine and havent had hives since. and again i say i believe everyones body is different and will get different results.

Do you have to get the shot monthly - I read the side effects before getting these shots and they are horrendous on this site - did you go through any of these at all?

yes! and yes i have serious tension and anxiety for about 2 days after getting the shot and that seems to be the only real noticable side effect as of now but hte long term side effects are scary! so i guess we shall see

I am getting my second shot of zolair at 11 am today and looking forward to it it's working very well I still get some itchiness at night but not every night and no hives.  No side effect so far and for the first in three years i can make plans without worrying if i can make it or not.  I sympathize with all of you we are all in this together and like everyone else i'm praying for a cure because living with urticaria is not a life and people don't understand I can tell by some people that they think it's something we are doing.  So Good luck to all of you.

Hi, I'm new to this site. I'm getting my first injection at the end of March. Very scary reading the side effects. But need a life! I've had chronic hives off and on since 2004. My longest duration was for 15 months. Then it was few years of hive free. Got them last year, took cyclopsporin as well as prednisone and antihistamines. Was free for 7 months, now they are back. On prednisone again with the other meds.

I've had my 2nd shot this past week and don't think I'm seeing any results. I'm really getting discouraged. I guess I'm wondering how will I know if it is working. Will I wake up with no hives or just not that many? Will they feel different? Any feedback would be great 🙁

I'll tell you my experience with zolair.  I had terrible daily before i started my zolair shots.  After my first zolair shot I was still a little itchy but with no hives, after my second zolair i started itching again but still no hives i was getting discouraged but i was on antihistamine i was taking about 60 to 80 mg a day witch is to much plus i was on 10 mg of singulair and 25 mg of apo doxipin witch is a anti depressant.  Plus i was on a low histamine diet with all that i was still itching.  Last week i got my third shot and i told the specialist i dont think my antihistamine is working i was full of rash on my stomach so she changed my antihistamine and changed my apo dexipin to 50mg.  Right now i can honestly say it is working im even experimenting with foods high in histamine and still no hives and barely itching if i start itcing i take a antihistamine and it works unlike before.  So I am thrilled so don't give up it could take longer if your eating what you want because food has alot to do with it even if they say it does'nt.
