Yeast Infection/BV?

Posted , 8 users are following.

I've been using Clob regularly for almost two months now. It helped my flare up for a while, then the last two weeks it hasn't been helping much. And then this week I started having internal burning/feels swollen. I think I must have a yeast infection or BV. Does anyone else think this could be caused by the ointment? I took Fluncanazole and it helps for like 2 days, then comes back. I might need to go get tested for BV.

ughh. This exact thing happened to me. I also take methotrexate (along with the clob) for my LS, because mine was quite agressive... and now I have a constant battle with BV. Go get the proper antibiotics and then if you are up for it you could look into boric acid suppositories (you can get them on amazon) these make everything feel normal, until I come off of them. then the BV comes right back. My specialist says its definitely a result of the clob and methotrexate. Hopefully because you are only on the clob, the antibiotics will take care of it for you. I would advise taking care of it quickly because any inflammation down there can activate your LS.

Gahhhhh LS is a nightmare 😦 I haven't felt normal in two full years. Flagyl (the antibiotic for BV) makes me SO SICK, I can barely get through it. I usually use the gel version inserted in my vagina. Not sure which I should go for this time. I have boric acid, it has seemed to irritate me lately when it used to work. I'm sorry you're struggling with this too 😦

I am with you. The oral antibiotic sucks, I know there are a few different brands, so next time (which will no doubt be after my period) I will request something other than flagyl. its brutal because the antibiotic can cause yeast... so its basically impossible to tell what is going on ls/yeast/and bv all itch and burn... it gets pretty frustrating to try to figure it all out. What I have found is that if I preemptively treat for yeast before the bv antibiotic, then it gets things calmed down enough that I know any further irritation is my ls (which doesnt bother me too much anymore because of methotrexate)

      Hey,

I know it has been a few months and I really hope you arent still having problems. i just wanted to update you incase something similar happens. It turns out that I had something called Aerobic Vagenitis, it is often misdiagnosed as BV but the BV meds dont fully clear it. Once that was properly dealt with things got SO much better!

UGH! Since I was diagnosed with LS in May - I've had a BV infection and now I'm battling a UTI. 😦 I use Clob every night before bed right now... so I'm assuming it's contributed to both of these infections - being that I never get them! 😕

Yea, I was using a medium grade steriod for a while, and it helped with the LS, I moved to clob because it seemed to flare up a bit (but i also was trying to move to x2 a week instead of x2 a day.. clearly i wasn't ready for that downgrade). Now the clob has seemed to cause me more issues. Maybe I should go back to the medium grade and just keep up with everyday for a bit longer. I am leaving for Vegas today and am gonna have to suffer through this BV until next week 😦

Oh no! 😦 I'm so sorry.... I've heard some people have issues with weaning off the Clob. I guess our bodies become really used to it?? I don't know.... but I hope it's not causing you issues because of that. ?! Blah! This LS and everything that comes with it - is miserable... 😕

Hope you have fun in Vegas 😃 (And that the LS or BV don't bother you too much!) 😦 (Sending you positive vibes!)

my gyn suggested going twice a day to twice every other day, then twice every three days and so on, since im just starting with this i have no idea whether that will work. right now I'm only on my second day with medication so i will be happy if the itching will stop.

Yes it definitely can be linked I have recurrent thrush and was miss-diagnosed with LS (I don't normally look at these messages anymore but saw this one and felt I should reply!) When I was treated for LS with steroid creams it made the thrush way worse! and a specialist told me that using steroid creams can encourage thrush if you are prone to yeast infections, something about the changes in the skin that make a good place for thrush to grow (+ also having damaged/inflamed skin in general can encourage thrush) I was then put on a cream that was part steroid and part anti fungal and that worked the best (+ treating the thrush with tablet). Using that cream at least stopped encouraging the regrowth a bit while I still needed steroid creams. I think it was called Lotriderm.

Interesting! Yea, I'm not convinced I have LS, I have no scarring, only itching on my Vulva/labia. But, I don't have yeast discharge and I test negative for yeast, so IDK. I'm just so confused. Were you always testing for thrush when they told you about LS?

Very curious to hear more about your story! Basically what happened to me was two years ago I got BV, then yeast, and the cycle kept going - took about 7 rounds of antibiotics and antifungal and my symptoms never went away for good. Then they came to the LS conclusion bc no treatment was working and I wasn't testing positive for anything.

      Hi Hannah,

yeah my story is pretty long winded and confusing! i started to get thrush a couple of times in my early 20s i think triggered by change of pill and irritation caused by creams i was prescribed for anal fissure caused by IBS stuff. i then started to notice some pain with sex and tearing that took a while to heal so eventually saw a gyne who immediately said LS, however when she treated me with steroid creams it all got 100x worse, she did also test for thrush and i think i got one possitive but the rest were negative so she was like well thrush is not the problem then. however things got worse again and ended up having a biopsy that said chronic inflamation and embeded thrush, the infection had got so bad it had litterally penetrated layers of skin!

soon after i moved and saw a new doctor who said reccurant thrush presents quite differently to normal 1 off infections, you dont always have to have lots of discharge it can be a bit more insideous and its also easy to get false negative test. i also tested positive for BV once when i actually thought everything was fine! they put me on a 6month course of fluconazole which really helped but then i started getting break through symptoms so had to repeat with higher dose...

the testing process is quite frustrating as i can often not be seen when i have the worst symptoms so i have had alot of negative results too which really confuses things, they think maybe sometimes its not thrush its just that it feels like it as the skin has become so sensitive etc

The doctor should do a punch biopsy to determine LS. My doctor thought I had a yeast infection but the result was negative. Out of desperation a couple of months later I used my tube of Clob that had been prescribed for eczema out of desperation from the itching. It improved my symptoms in one application. I talked to my dermatologist who referred me to gynecology. In one look she said it was LS, did a punch biopsy which confirmed her diagnosis. Clob is the first line treatment.

OMG - embedded thrush??? That's one I haven't heard of, I'm going to bring that up when I go in three weeks. My specialist is such a b***h, I might talk to my normal gyno about that. I've not tried using Fluncanzole for more than one pill. IDK why they wouldn't try to treat me for longer. So your biopsy came back with no LS present? Thank you for sharing!

My findings are: Clobetasol helps with a flare up, and then I better stop using it. Instead I rinse and bath with either baking soda in the water or borax.

would the combination of tacrolimus and methotrexate do the same thing? i started having symptoms in early JANUARY and was diagnosed in April. I've had this combination for about 6 weeks. Today, i started itching for the first time. I messed around for so long with antibiotics and diflucan. i don't think i could ever take another antibiotic without getting sick.
