Zopiclone 3.75 withdrawal

Posted , 10 users are following.

Hello! I have been taking half of a 3.75mg of zopiclone every night for nearly 3 months. I stopped taking it 3 nights ago and have had very broken sleep which is to be expected. I have also been feeling very agitated and dizzy, is this withdraws symptoms or am I over thinking it? I spoke to my therapist and he told me to start taking it again tonight and then come of it slowly. I'm not sure what to do...I'm also on citalopram

Hi again, I spoke to my therapist after posting this and he went crazy that I'd gone cold turkey for three days. He told me to take a whole 3.75 and then the next night half of that. I didn't take one last night but I'm taking half tonight and I'm doing this for a few weeks gradually building up the days where I don't take them! I feel absolutely fine and managed to get a full 7 hours sleep last night so I'm a happy bunny!!!!

I would never do an abrupt withdrawal. What we have experienced is to switch to a long acting benzodiazepine equivalent eg 7.5 of Zopiclone to 5 mg diazepam. Stabilise on that for a while before attempting reducing. This is a long acting drug and comes in liquid form easier to withdraw from. It comes as 5mils equivalent to 2 mg diazepam. You would start on 10 miles then withdraw slowly at your own pace  and successfully. Yes will you will suffer some symptoms but  no comparison to dropping as you are dropping that quickly we believe you may experience delayed symptoms in the coming months. One other important question and suggestion is: Are you substituting with alcohol? If so please don't as it would compound your problem. I say this due to personal experience!

I understand that you are finding withdrawal for Zopiclone difficult, but what do you want/expect? Your CNS is used to a sedative to help you sleep, how important is sleep to you? Is taking 3.75mg of Zopiclone such a sin?. The choice is yours of course, but i am astounded at the number of people who seem to want to stop all sorts of medication. My personal opinion is, if it helps, then whats the problem?

The problem is addiction zaphod they cause insomnia in that you can't switch off without one. In my case I'll wake up a few hours later not able to go back to sleep without a second!!😟

Yes, I know what you mean.  I take 7.5mg every night, but recently have started waking up around 5am and can't get back to sleep, so have to resort to taking a quarter of a pill to get back of to sleep again.

one morning I switched the light on to look at clock, and it was 2.50am in morning. I couldn't believe it.  I try not to make this a habit of taking extra but I know the alternative will,be tossing and turning.  My partner on the other hand, only has to lay his head down and wham, he's asleep.

even when I'm really tired I always have the same problem.

i expect lots of others do to.

Yes that's the nature of addiction. Everyone I know can sleep without pills they can drop off in a chair etc I can't ever sleep unless I'm in bed under the control of a drug. ie I can't give myself permission to sleep naturally. The crazy thing is that some believe the drugs no longer work anyway so it really is all in the mind. If on the other hand you try not to take them you give it thought and that's an energy and energy is adrenalin.

the difference between a natural sleeper and an addict is the latter gives it thought and that creates not only energy but fear. Those that can sleep the very best in any situation are those that try not to sleep.

ive long since tried to give up zopiclone I now think maybe I could one day.

You speak on the exactly the same level as me Nathan! This is spot on, and identical to me and my thinking

Nathan try and switch to diazepam liquid. It's a longer half life and you can taper off slowly. You will experience some symptoms but not in my experience the ones you are. I believe 7.5 mg Zopiclone is equivalent to 5 mg diazepam so you would need 10 mils of liquid as it's usually 2mg in 5 mils of liquid . Draw it up in a syringe and wipe it (don't be tempted to lick off surplus) then drop as you feel comfortable even just .25 of a mil or less. Give it a few weeks before you make the next drop. Remember 10% of 10 mils is 10% but 10% of 9 mils is .9% . Hope this helps - Good luck .
