Zopiclone advice please?

So. I've decided due to the frustration of being unable to sleep to try zopiclone and see if that helps me. (I've taken it a few times before, like 6 in the past 4/5 months) and I've got a new prescription to last me 14 days. I took one last night, and unfortunately still kept waking up every hour. (really sick of it) I've been waking up every hour for the past two years, not being able to sleep for more than three hours at a time. (when I do sleep for three hours, I feel like it's Christmas and received the best present ever as it barely happens). I'm just wondering, if I take Zopi's for like three days on the run, will it help me in being able to sleep uninterrupted and allow me to sleep for a good few hours? And has anyone else experienced this before?

I took them for a month or so when I was trying every sleeping pill known to man and my experience was the same as yours. I know this is tough to hear but sleeping pills are not going to help you.

Well you can answer that for yourself since you took it last night. Was your sleep any better than if you took nothing at all?

Hmm. Not really, I felt better rested when I woke up after such little sleep though so that made a nice change.

Hi zopliclone only works for short term if you take it every night for more than a few days it won’t work at all! It’s not a drug that builds up in your system it’s one that you become immune to if taken day after day.  You could try hemp tea that worked for me you could ask the doc for a muscle relaxant, or something like Ditherpin or norotriptline I have suffered with awful insomnia for years because of ME and unfortunately it’s something that has just got worse. Norotriptiline seems to be one of the only things that keep me asleep I still struggle falling asleep but at least on nights I do, I stay asleep. Also relaxation hypnosis apps will help you relax at least even if like me they don’t help you sleep they still put your body in a relaxed state which is better than stressing about not sleeping.

Would norotriptiline interfere with Sertraline? As I know the one you take is also used as an anti depressant.

I used to be on Sertraline and I remember that it caused me insomnia. Did you have the insomnia before you started taking it?

How is your insomnia now that you're not on Sertraline anymore, what dose did you used to be on and how long were you taking it for? (Sorry for all the questions) I used to have spells of insomnia before Sertraline but a hell of a lot worse with it.

I was on 100mgs at one point, took a couple of years to get off, the withdrawal can be hard unless you do it slow. I still take .25 mgs of clonazepam to sleep which is a small dose. I am 66 and all my problems started when I went through menopause. I also took 10 mgs of Elavil at one point, the best sleeping pill ever but I have read that it can cause memory problems and dementia, so am weaning  myself off of that also. I do sleep well now, about eight hours straight on most nights.

Yeah I've done a lot of research into withdrawal symptoms over anti depressants, not a fun ride whatsoever! When and if I ever do decide to get off them I'll definitely be doing a slow taper, 5% decrease every two weeks. So you've had luck with Elavil? Might have to try that (only now and again, I've already got memory problems so couldn't get any worse and I'm 23) just NEED something because I can't carry on like this for much longer. It's good to hear you do sleep well now though.

Wow you are so young, hope you can find a solution, Elavil is great but everything is but a band aid. You should try and get to the root of your problems, you are way too young for this. One of my daughters struggles with anxiety and I know how hard it can be. Also Elavil is not a sleeping pill, you need to take it every night.

My doctors just don't seem to be bothered about my situation, thinking of changing though as I need better support and hope that a doctor will actually help me with this and changing is the only option as all the doctors at my place are just, meh. And ahh right, but it does help sleep?

I am sorry to hear of this. I've taken zopiclone for last few years and I can't say taking them every night has had any kind of accumalative effect in terms of sleeping better. I would suggest you need to see a sleep specialist as that sounds pretty severe waking up every hour. I'm not a doctor but I suspect it could be sleep apneuri or however you say it or something to do with the heart or thyroid possibly. If you haven't already I would go back and chase the doctors to be referred to a sleep disorder clinic

I hate going the doctors because I never get anywhere with them, the second to last time I went I got advised to exercise before bed (even though I do a physical job as it is and finish at 4am) the second time I got told to do a sleep hygiene routine for two weeks which also didn't work. I guess I could try what you've adviced, thank you.
