1st Anniverary After FRHR

Hello fellow hippies
This time last year I was being prepped for surgery. I remember being so terrified of the unknown.
This year has gone by so quickly, and I'm pleased to announce that the surgery was a success, I'm no longer in pain and I'm back to my normal lifestyle
I can tell that it probably won't be long.... maybe another year.... before I have to get my left hip done. When that time comes, I won't hesitate to get the replacement.
Best wishes to all of you who are planning a FHR, or have already had the surgery. While there is a very small percentage that have ongoing issues, the huge majority of us will be left blessed with a new leash on life thanks to the amazing medical professionals.
Thank you All who gave me encouragement during the first few months. It really helped keep me sane and on the right track.
God Bless You All

Dear Kimberley
Thanks yes all going well thankfully. Got an appointment with my ankle revision surgeon in three weeks to re-evaluate what will be possible given that the hip surgery delay will have allowed the osteolysis to worsen. I've had a stair lift installed just in case it us really dire.
Cheers Richard

Dear Kimberley
Many thanks. It was not too bad as I just had to put it out of my mind when the hip failed and needed to be revised, but now I'm starting to feel the inevitability of the situation and don't mind admitting that it fills me with dread but there is no escape.
I can see the train crash coming and there is Bxxxer all that I can do apart from keeping fit and try to stay positive. Thank goodness that the hip is now well on the mend!
Cheers Richard

Hi Iris
Three weeks will go by very quickly and before you know it you will be on the road to recovey. I don't know the type of hip replacement you will be having but whichever one of the two you have your pain will eventually be gone. One type takes a little bite longer and you will have restrictions with the other you will have no restrictions and recovery is quicker. Either way you will be given pain meds you may or may not need them. Just follow your surgeon's instructions and do your exercises and everything should work out for you. I was terrified when I went for mine and now I am 7 weeks post op and just a little stiff.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Hi Iris,
I was terrified just like you. I didn't know anyone who had had a FHR, so really didn't know what to expect. I can honestly tell you that I was pleasantly surprised after the surgery. The pain in my hip had completely gone away. There was pain in my upper thigh, but that was easily controlled by pain meds. I slept comfortably the first night post op and was released the following day after a few lessons from the Physical Therapist on how to move around and climb stairs.
You should be sent home with meds to keep you comfortable over the next several weeks. During the first couple of weeks, I rested a lot with my leg elevated. Ice packs are a must to help keep the swelling down, so make sure that you have some ready in your freezer for when you get home.
Each week will get easier and you will be able to get around more. Physio is a must from the start. You will be shown how to get those muscles working properly again. By the end of the 2nd second month, I was well on my way with recovery. I could honestly say that I was glad that I'd had it done. At this point, I was able to go back to work (desk job).
As far as responses from people, this website is fantastic and the people are amazing!! You should start getting responses over the next day or two.
Best of luck, and try not to worry!! We will be here to answer any questions or concerns you may have along the way
