2 years of throat clearing, thick mucus and post nasal drip sensation (allergy/reflux/nerve?)

Hello,
Suffering for 2 years with sensation of thick mucus stuck at the back of the nose, which I'm often able to hock up out of my mouth (clear but very "snotty" and like thick glue when it's in a tissue).
Sometimes it gets in my throat and I often clear my throat all day long too. I guess this is post-nasal drip, but not watery or thin (like you apparently get from an allergy), it's very thick and feels awful like a lump or glob that won't move, until I hock it up, but within minutes it's back again...
Tried all reflux and allergy medications (double-dose PPIs, steroid sprays, allergy RAST tests, antihistamines, singulair, antihistamine sprays, nasal irrigation, gastrocopy, multiple nasal/throat endoscopes, sinus CT scans), and they can't identify the problem... All of my symptoms disappear completely, when I eat or lay down with my head to either side (which I find very odd! Equally, if I take pseudoephridrine (oral decongestant), my symptoms go too (but I know that's not a long term option).
Anyone ever dealt with anything similar or know what to suggest next?I've been thinking of self-treating with amitriptyline (10mg at night) and gabapentin (100mg 3x per day), to see if this is a hypersensitivity/nerve issue. I have absolutely no other symptoms and can't live much longer like this, it's completely ruined my life and things are just getting worse
Thanks for any help at all.

In my case what makes my crazy is that unespecific feeling in the throat. Sometimes I feel like mucus falling down from my nose to my mouth (but when I try to swallow I can’t because nothing is there), other times I feel like something is stuck in my throat ( but near Adan’s apple). I made a ph metry and I have reflux (I don’t feel it) but I have been taking ppi meds (nexium) since a year and a half (sometimes doctors rise the dose to 80 mg each day) and I still with this. I don’t know if it is in my esophagus, in my throat, in my nose or what

Has anyone thought it could be an Candida issue caused through the overuse of Antibiotics ? and perhaps tried the diet to eliminate the overgrowth of Candida in the body ?

Yes I have been recently resherching this subject after myself being prescribed a lot of antibiotics over a 2.5 year period, I did the water test and it was positive, I have started on the diet with no sugars / yeast etc etc and also loaded up with Oregano oil 3 times a day and Pro bio-tics, so will see how this goes. So far my nose and the amount of snot seems to have drastically reduced... fingers crossed hopefully the same for you too.

Hi Nita
if you google the Candida water test it will come up and explain, but basically you spit into a clean glass or water first thing in the morning before eating / drinking anything. Observe after 15 / 30 mins and if you have stringers from the top down / floaters in the middle or residue on the bottom of the glass you could have candida overgrowth. The oregano oil is 1 tablet 3 times a day as advised.

This is my life!! Exactly the same symptoms. I only get relief when I lay down. Doctors treat me as if I’m looney.
All of my symptoms seemed to start when I was taking care of my sick father and was on Flonase. My father was home on hospice and eventually passed away from a drug resistant infection in his lungs that were compromised from COPD. My initial thought was that I introduced a drug resistant infection into my sinuses with Flonase as the vehicle. The odd part is that, as many people say, it is completely clear and slimey and sometimes opaque-ish white with black specs, which is atypical for a sinus infection. But if you read about biofilms they are a slimey layer that the bacteria lay dormant. I have tried the XClear, and I also tried a microbalance health product that has seed oil from lemon lime and grapefruit. I do believe that I also developed bad headaches, like you derekjp, from using the microbalance in my sinus rinse. Just recently, last few days, I figured why not try the nitribiotic that has worked for others. I will say it seems to work a little but not for long. If I don’t use a sinus rinse then it becomes way worse and feels like it goes into my throat, ears and chest.
Does anyone seem like their ears also feel clogged but like from the inside where the eustacian meets the throat. I have to constantly hold my nose and blow to release some pressure.
Recently I have researched a little about probiotics and the microbiome of the sinuses in chronic sinusitis. Has anyone ever tried probiotics either in their rinses or a swab? Apparently many sinus sufferers are lacking a beneficial bacteria called L. Sakei. It’s found in Japanese saki and kimchi naturally. Some people have actually put swabs of kimchi in their noses to repopulate the beneficial bacteria. I’m thinking about trying this because I’m desperate😩 I have 3 young kids and no time to deal with feeling this horrible. I used to run, weight lift, have tons of energy and now I feel disabled!!

I just recently saw a probiotic powder being marketed towards sinuses and I think it was that strain of bacteria specifically. I recently started opening capsules and putting them in my sinus rinse, but it just a basic probiotic for "womens health"
