2 years of throat clearing, thick mucus and post nasal drip sensation (allergy/reflux/nerve?)

Hello,

Suffering for 2 years with sensation of thick mucus stuck at the back of the nose, which I'm often able to hock up out of my mouth (clear but very "snotty" and like thick glue when it's in a tissue).

Sometimes it gets in my throat and I often clear my throat all day long too. I guess this is post-nasal drip, but not watery or thin (like you apparently get from an allergy), it's very thick and feels awful like a lump or glob that won't move, until I hock it up, but within minutes it's back again...

Tried all reflux and allergy medications (double-dose PPIs, steroid sprays, allergy RAST tests, antihistamines, singulair, antihistamine sprays, nasal irrigation, gastrocopy, multiple nasal/throat endoscopes, sinus CT scans), and they can't identify the problem... All of my symptoms disappear completely, when I eat or lay down with my head to either side (which I find very odd! Equally, if I take pseudoephridrine (oral decongestant), my symptoms go too (but I know that's not a long term option).

Anyone ever dealt with anything similar or know what to suggest next?I've been thinking of self-treating with amitriptyline (10mg at night) and gabapentin (100mg 3x per day), to see if this is a hypersensitivity/nerve issue. I have absolutely no other symptoms and can't live much longer like this, it's completely ruined my life and things are just getting worse sad

Thanks for any help at all.

I have heard the military is spraying coal dust in our air to deal with global warming. It has barium and aluminum in it. Why wouldn't this be the cause?

hi everyone! So I'm back at this forum and it's been more than 6 month and the mucus problem is still going on, somedays are better than others.

So since last week I started having this itchy feeling on the left side of my throat, like right behind my soft palate. Whenever I swallow food it feels itchy and scratchy, even my left ear feels itchy deep inside too! it's super weird, it's not the kind of itch that makes you cough, but it's like ants crawling over with a bit numbness feeling, as if food is rubbing that area. It's really getting on my nerves and I can't eat much because of this discomfort. Went to my GP got some Claritin and that's it...ANYONE has ever had this itchy throat feeling ever?

yes im having this feeling since april i had tonsil infection and then this all happeend still have post nasal drip etc and im going crazy and food gets stuck left side probably due to the mucus and then after couple hours is goes down. omg has anyone had anything similar? pleaseee i am going to give gaviscon advance another go. if it helps i will conclude its due to silent reflux. because the doctors dont wanna help one bit other than throwing ppi at my face which just gave me burning in my belly. ent just slapped a nasal spray at my face and said toodles for 3 month. my nose is as dry as hell but im getting constant post nasal drip. my nose used to be runny everytime i used to eat food before which was normal for me and most peoplehave that but omg it has not dripped one bit since april AND it drips beautifully if i cry which i have been doing for months now since no one wanna help me even my family thinks ive gone crazy because theyve never heard of anything like it. when i had endoscopy though for like one day the feeling in my throat went i was so HAPPY but next morning same thing which is why i think its due to post nasal drip i need to get rid of this.

Silly question but have any of you been tested for silent reflux? there are some new tests out now for this which are really good and in m,y case it was the gas comming up into the throat and the sinuses this was a part of my issues together with allergy's, particularly to Alcohol. Hope this helps.

can you tell us more about those tests? (name, results, how they work, etc)

If they tell u it's silent reflux, what do you do for it?

Over the counter Gaviscon or Zantac seem to help a lot, not totally cured but they help.

exactly Perry, a cheap simple test get some gaviscon and take after each meal for a week, see if this helps as what you say is exactly my symptoms .

gavison forms a lining on top of the food in your stomach, and stops the gases from coming up the throat, when the gases come up your throat your body fights it as an infection and created mucus to clear it... hope that makes sense, its a cheap test to see anyway. I take some after each main meal and once before bed so a max of 4 times a day.

Ive found that Gaviscon is good for acid reflux but not for silect reflux.

I have found that there are 2 types of Gaviscon, you need to make sure you get the correct one
