4 weeks post op and stomach swelling

Posted , 74 users are following.

Hi I am 4 weeks after a abdominal hysterectomy (still got ovaries).  I thought I had been recovering well with no pain and no complications until now.  I have started to experience stabbing(stinging) pains around my incision and my stomach swells by the end of the day.  I am not lifting but walking around a lot.  Could it be that??

Thanks

    Hi Tracey

I 70 and had a Davinci Robotic Hysterectomy 9 weeks ago. Your the first person I've seen who has mentioned the discomfort of wearing clothes. I had my Uterus & Ovaries removed due to pelvic floor prolapse.** Anything touching my right side is unbearable. Even brushing my fingers lightly across my right side is unbearable. So wearing clothes is problematic**. I also have bloating by end of day like many others have mentioned and the sharp stabbing pains. My surgeon said it may be nerve damage. Honestly I'm used to pain. I've have arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and back problems. But not being able to dress and go out is making me extremely depressed. I am wearing sweat pants two sizes bigger rolled down as far as i can. And i have only one pair of pants i can wear out. I need to know there will be an end at some point to the extreme sensitivity. Otherwise what kind of life will i have. I can easily ignore the stabbing pains but the irritation is impossible. I didn't even go out for my 70th birthday because of the pain clothing causes. I am so sorry i had the operation.

hi. I too am 9 weeks post emergency hysterectomy with everything removed including large fibroid and fibromas both ovaries. I have lived in leggings, bigger size so can pull them up over my belly button and bridget jones knickers.

got to be positive that my histology was negative.thats keeping me going and trying to match nice long tops and long boots which have a good effect. the swollen belly is what gets me down.

hope things get easier for you

Thanks Penny I'm just so afraid that its always going to be this sensitive. If I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel I could just roll with the punches Its imagining the worse, (staying like this forever) that is depressing me. The surgeon didn't say oh yes your nerve was probably cut, be patient and it will regrow. She said well lets wait and see Ugh so I feel like that's it . I'll wait it out for 12 months but after that I'm not sure .

I had my op end of September 2019 - ovaries and fallopian tubes and my stomach is still swollen. I'm doing everything as normal and have been since Christmas including running 3-4 times a week. It is worse as day goes on but fingers crossed it will go back to normal one day!

I promise things will go back to normal. I had mine in 2017, I thought i would never get back to normal. It took me a full year and a few months to feel like myself again. Good luck on your healing journey!

Hi! Did you have an abdominal hysterectomy? Please give me more details about your surgery. I had an abdominal hysterectomy on 9/11/19 due to a 2.5 fibroid and my right ovary removed due to large cyst. The cut is very large across by abdomen, about 9 inches. I do not feel well at all yet. I'm in pain as I type this. I try not to get frustrated, but can't help it some days.

hi. yes mine was emergency for hip pain. ct showed large fibrous with a stalk outside uterus. more scans showed fibromas both ovaries so everything removed. that was 13dec. the wait for histology is awful but was all clear, hope yours was.

I'm going back to work part time next week will be 11weeks. I try to walk a lot in hope the swelly belly will go but it's still there. I feel like I have a different body, do you?

I do get niggles and find if I eat less not so bad. big meals leave me bloated. just be nice to feel normal and wear my Jean's, still tight and uncomfortable. if your pain still bad maybe see your gp or go back to consultant.

Hello, i was 4 weeks post op yesterday. i had total abdominal hysterecomy with one left ovarie. i noticed i still have swelling on my left side under the incision especially at the the end of the day. i have back pain on my right rib cage its gotten more better though its not as painful as it was. I do have twinge of pain and numbness. Im going before my doctors appointment because i want them to check the swelling to see if its normal. I was using a heating pad on the inscion but i was told by my husband it could have made it worse.

5 months here. Total abdominal hysterectomy with right oopherectomy. I still have a lump just to the right of my umbilicus. I am still very swollen. I have seen five doctors and all assure me that it is completely normal. I had external and internal ultrasounds along with a CT w/contrast at 8 weeks. The swelling is normal as is the lump which is just scar tissue. The twinging and numbness is due to cut nerves and is normal.

All 5 doctors have told me that recovery for an abdominal hysterectomy is around 1 year.

A heating pad is actually recommended by all doctors I have seen. It relaxes the muscles and soften the damaged tissue.

thank you so much for your information. It helps tremendously to know other experiences. Also its good to feel im not alone in this that what im going through is normal but i am going to see the doctor just to be on the safe side to check the cuff and make sure its healing properly. Im sorry you had to go through all that to get answers especially a CT scan which im against those. I try to avoid it as much as possiable because of radiation. They kept wanting to do a CT scan in the past because of my lymph nodes but i was able to argue to get the MRI instead and thats how i found my right para ovarian cyst with septation mural nodule and thats why i had the total hysterecomy done.

You are not alone. Hang in there. I totally understand the tummy problem. I've never had one either and it bothers me that I have one now. The only good thing is that it will go away.

My doc said age matter in recovery. I'm 49 at will take me longer than someone who is 40 or 35, so I keep that in mind as well.

Let me now what happens at your next visit. I wish you luck hon. Feel better.
