A new forum problem

I was pleased to see the list of notifications wasn't so spread out. Thought it was a return to old version. But now you can't mark as read only selected messages which you'll have read when you go through the whole post. Now you can only mark ALL as read. To go through and read each one separately will take forever. I've had trouble keeping up as it is, but at least I could read a post, then mark as read all the other notifications for that post. Going through one by one will take forever. I give up.

I don't bother with Notifications and have opted out of receiving emails about them; I log onto the forum on desktop computer and then decide which topics I want to look at
The header indicates how many replies have been made and when the last one was, that's sufficient info for me.

That is what I have always done. My point is I have now read all of the replies to a very long post, and I would like to mark them as read without having to go back into the thread for each message, but can only do that by deleting all on the page - not all of which are in that particular thread and I may not have read those yet. You used to be able to go through and mark as read any post or reply and it was a good way of keeping on top of things. This is a very active forum and I follow all the posts. I'm now literally days behind in getting rid of read posts and replies because I simply haven't got the time. To make matters worse I can't scroll to the next page as that option's gone too.

Like Anhaga I read every post - I have just been away for a week or so and have a couple of hundred posts between the 2 forums to catch up on despite having been able to do quite a bit while away. By a quick check at my email notification I may not bother going to the forum - but I do look at everything. Otherwise I can't be sure I've offered an opinion on something important - now that may be me being very arrogant about my own importance but it has been my charitable work for the last 10 years.
I do realise that not everyone is so keen - but when I have just written a treatise on a topic and a regular contributor asks about the same thing again a couple of days later I do feel a tad aggrieved they hadn't looked at the last post. And now the forum has this ridiculous "nesting" it isn't a case of just going to the end of the thread and working back to the last post you read as it used to be - new replies can be in the middle of the thread and must be looked for.

👍👍👍👍👍😵😵😵....TOTALLY AGREE with you Eileen....this is just NUTZ! I'm growing so weary of trying to chase everything down. I really need/appreciate this forum, but with that being said...I'm kinda at my wits end right now. I'm exhausted!

so, how do we solve this Anhaga?? I desperately need this forum (and have come to enjoy several folks)....but JEEZZ....I'm exhausted and frustrated and feel like my posts aren't making any sense right now as they seem so random and out of order!😖

Now that I've returned after a few minutes away the little red dots actually mean something now. I know what I haven't read since I told Patient I'd read everything even if I hadn't. But to really make this work I'm going to have to check in every hour or two all day long instead of maybe once or twice at random times.

I'm not sure what's going on but I have just received a post from Lynda which she posted 16 hours ago. I have received others which were more recent earlier today. Is this a test of our memory or powers of observation? If so, it's working but, boy, it's taxing my brain.

I have noticed there is not much relationship between the time posted on the notifications list and the time on the item itself. I keep getting notifications for things I've read hours earlier looking like they are new.

Same here Anhaga! I've received about 15 duplicates in the last hr. appearing as if they are new....looks like the "bugs" are still on overtime!...lol...

Glad I am not alone. Those of us who are of a certain age have lots more stored in our memory and now they are trying to addle our brains. I have a new box for the TV which has taken time to master but I am gradually adding connections as I find them. Trial and error and I haven't blown the TV or the box.......yet. I try to keep up with my grandchildren but have now decided not to say when I am stuck. I'll just say I don't need that. (just picture the emoji with the tears of laughter)

Hi Silver/Anhaga,
I also have this issue. My best guess is the notifications page is using the time the email was sent out as opposed to the time the reply was actually posted. As our email sender batches these emails up to send out periodically this explains the discrepancies. I'll raise another bug report now, thanks for the feedback.
Further to above I don't know if there is an issue with the emails being delayed for any reason so I will also ask that this is investigated.

Thank you for your response and sterling work. It must be a pain for you as this is the worst I have found the forum to date.

Hi Silver,

The reason for this was because that particular post was sent for moderation. So although it was posted yesterday the notification will not be sent until the post was approved by a moderator and the post appears on site. That happened today hence you only getting the notification this morning.

Thank you, Alan. That makes sense.
