accepting fibromyalgia

hi, im new to this site but have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I need to know if others experience the same as me as i have days where i feel i am imagining i have an illness and i should just pull myself together. I had a car crash 2 years ago with whiplash and also have had 5 years of serious stress. I am 62 and feel 90 some days. I am always dizzy, aching, tired and feel like i have permanent flu. I had all 18 points when i saw the consultant, bloods came back negative for everything else. I am having trouble giving up control, delegating and accepting i have this illness. I find i cry alot, very emotional at small things, am irritable, confused and have been told..unreasonable and snappy. My husband gets angry when im snappy, i get emotional, then i feel awful the rest of the day with the symptoms worse. I have said to him that maybe it would be better if i had lumps or sores, operations or treatments, some obvious sign i am ill, then i may get more understanding. How do you accept this horrible thing? Is this how its going to be forever?

    Hi Tess and everyone,

Hope you get your Dad home this afternoon, is he able to look after himself?

Well got x-ray results this morning, our own GP was off sick so a locum rang me. He quite casually said that he was ringing to tell us Rays results, then carried on just as casually and without feeling telling us that his heart is enlarged, he has patches on his lung consistant with damage caused by working with asbestos when he was a gas fitter, but no infection! We were expecting some concection with the heart because we have the appointment next week with the specialist heart nurse. The asbestos was unexpected and no infection was a big surprise, considering how poorly he is. So I guess now, unless I have a battle with someone (don`t think I have the energy for that!) we wait until Tuesday.

My pain is not too bad, just stiff and achy. Its the awful fatigue that finishes me off. I have to do everything in small pieces and rest in between!!

well hope everyone is feeling better than I am today! Lol

    Hi there everyone,

I do hope your dad is home Tess and your relief from him coming home has reduced your pain levels xxxxx I hope you can rest a little to regain your strength xxx

Lindy I hope your appointment went ok too I hope he/she listened to you......I gave up smoking nearly five years ago, even now when I am stressed I feel like I could have one  but no thanks cost to much  i hope your family feel better soon.

Oh bless you Linda, my ex's dad had asbestos's due to working in the ship yard and I used to watch him after I had done a shift in the pub while my mum in law could catch up with her sleep, so I do have an idea what it is like for you xxxx. and as for you hun you are probably run down yourself and that is where the fatigue has hit you xx All we can do is pace ourselves as like most fibroites when we feel ok we over do it and then feel it later xx I hope you have a relaxing bath or something so you have a restful sleep xxxx

I hope you are feeling ok too Di?

Take care everyone and I hope everyone has a restful sleep xxxx

    Hi Ses, Linda & Everyone

Thank you both for asking about my dad. Yes he came home late yesterday afternoon after they got his medication and letter for dr sorted out. Took him home and settled him in. He is fine and spoke to him today. Got to got to make appointment for colonoscopy at outpatients dept before the 20th November. Then see dr at the clinic.

I do hope you can find some pain relief for your hips Ses you are always in so much pain with them. I hope you managed to get more sleep overnight Ses.

It must have been a shock to you Linda about the asbestos. No wonder Ray has been poorly. How are you coping with it all. I do hope you get better news when you see the heart specialist next week. Will be thinking about you.

Been to physio today so now I feel achy all over. Did say my back was improving and did more for emy knees today as they always seem worse. especially the right knee more weakness in that.

Hopefully got a clear week next week for a rest. Looking after Sophie tomorrow with Stewart. That will be nice.

    Have a good weekend.

    Hi Ses, Tess and everyone,

Thank you both Ses and Tess for your kindness regarding Ray`s illness. What a shock we got at lunchtime today, after me complaining to you all yesterday about the locum GP`s manner, he turned up on the doorstep!!! We hadn`t asked for a visit or anything, but our GP is still sick, so the locum had read back through Ray`s history and thought he should call and check we were coping ok and that he wasn`t any worse. He thinks its the enlarged heart that is the prioity, and said he would leave a report for our own GP. I think my faith in the nhs has just been restored. Until next time! Lol

Glad your Dad is home and ok Tess, that must be a relief for you. Enjoy your time with little Sophie at the weekend and heers to you relaxing week next week!!

Di and Ses put me to shame with their xmas shopping. I feel so exhausted to the point of feeling sick and week most of the time, Christmas just seems miles away at the moment. I have looked online for some of the things I need to get, and I think that`s going to be the way forward this year. just the thought of struggling around crowded shops makes me feel tired. I think I need to start some of my famous lists before I go into complete panic mode.

Ses I think about you so often coping with a young family and in so much more pain than me, I don`t know how you do it!!

Well, Di I thought my sleep pattern was pretty rough but I have to say, yours takes some beating, how do we manage even to function with all these wierd things going on? I think I`m the reverse of you as I`m awake for the day at 4am usually and ready for bed at 7 at night!!

well maybe tonights the night we`ll all have a refreshing sleep. Lol!

    Hi Linda & Everyone

That was good the locum doctor came to your house  Does restore your faith in the medical practice. Yes it is good Dad is home things hopefully settle down a bit more now. I am like you with the sleep could go to bed about 7 or 8 but don't. Try and stay up til about 10 but still wake up about 3 in the morning and then can't get back to sleep.

The gp said I could increase the ampytripline to 20mg so thought I give it a go tonight. See what happens whether helps me sleep better.

Your not alone I haven't done much of mine yet. I don't like shopping when it is really busy. Last year I was more organised and did nearly all my shopping on line. You want to check out the stores that give you free delivery. John Lewis is giving free delivery but don't no if a limit you have to spend. I was lucky last year several of the stores I ordered from I got free delivery.

Saw physio today was a good session. Said my back is improving and did more physio on my knees today. My right knee is worse than my left.

Was painful at times but no pain no gain! Don't do any exercises when I seen physio think that is enough for one day. Won't get many done tomorrow lol with looking after sophie. Unless do some when she is asleep but might need a sleep myself.

Did you see skyes message on positive result. She went to see another gp and is sending her to see rheumatologist so it wasn't her fat fummy as she puts it. Good news for her today!

Well hope you get some decent sleep and talk again soon. Have a good weekend. Thank you for asking about my dad.

Tess how is your Dad? I guess he is relieved to be home xx and I hope you have not tired yourself out looking after the little one by the time you get to read this xxxx

So good news Skye that you are getting recognition xxxx I do hope your Rhuemotologist appointment isn't too long for you waiting to see someone that listens xxxx

Anyway I do hope we have a good night tonight xxxx sweet dreams xxxx

    Hi Ses & Everyone!

Its about time you had a good day with not so bad pain  Yes dad is really glad to be home. Got to go to outpatients for the other test in the next week or so. He was getting so impatient in hospital

Yes had a good day with Sophie and forgotten how demanding 6 week old baby can be lol  Had enough milk for her luckily and still had two ounces to spare. She had her last feed at 8.30 but didn't really settle down properly after nearly sucking my finger away til about half eleven.

Amy picked her up about quarter to twelve and she slept until three o clock. She asked me what I had put in her milk lol! I didn't get to bed until 12pm and just crashed out. Breast fed babies are very impatient on waiting for their bottles. But luckily I had everything prepared and went well. Stewart had to go see his mum in nursing home as she has only just gone in so was on my own a lot of the time until evening.

Well having lazy day today and hopefully chill out and early night!

    Take care

im going through all the papers for my tribunal on wed but dont hold out much hope.. it annoys me that people i know get full care and mobility drive about in there brand new car and im sitting at home cant go out as im in so much pain and i cant get the benefits i feel we are all due... will let u all know how i get on..

    Hi Di & Everyone

He is pleased to be back Di. You know what older people are like they have their routine. Ever since we lost mum nearly eight years ago he keeps moving the furniture round in his rooms. Suppose gives him something to do  He is lucky because he lives in a warden control flat and has a club just across the way he can go to. Only draw back is there are more women than men go.

It sounds such a minefield applying for the DLA. You are right the system doesn't work. You have a hard time getting around and other people who get it seem to go out and about and dry their cars. Don't know how they get away with it. Good luck for Wednesday be thinking about you.

I am lucky don't need to go than that route yet!

Well hope you get some decent sleep tonight. I need early night.

    Hi Everyone,

Yes Di, I quite agree. I sometimes wonder what the secret is, how do some of these people get these benefits??? There maybe someone else on here who knows more about this than I do, but I`m sure I read somewhere that you have to be able to get out, to qualify for mobility allowance, otherwise you don`t need it. Makes no sense to me. I`ve always thought it a very unfair benefit anyway, when my daughter became diabetic at age 13 there was another girl the same age diagnosed the same week, she was awarded DLA and Ann wasn`t!! Good luck anyway Di

Glad you had a great time with little Sophie, Tess, I bet you`re tired today!!! Ann took me shopping yesterday and I bought three xmas presents. Yay I`ve made a start!!

Hope you are ok Ses, and not in too much pain.

HI there Tess, Linda and Di and everyone else xxxxx

So glad you had a lovely day with your grand daughter Tess it must have been lovely, but like Di says I couldn't do that now due to not being able to hold a baby too long as I have difficulties with my shoulders and arms, my tops of my arms get so sore I loose the strength somehow and so we be frightened to loose grip  So glad Ethan is nearly three and more or less can defend for himself and soon he is in nursery soon for afternoons as at the moment he is in two afternoons a week to give me a break  So glad your Dad is happy he is back home too, I love old people as I love the stories they tell you about how things were when they were young :D , I hope you are resting today though as I bet you will be tired by the time you read this xxxxx

Well Di, what can I say hun, think how you are on your worse day tell them how you need help as that is what they are bothered about...... I had a disability spokesperson on the appeal board and she asked if I had adapted my home, but I haven't due to wanting to move so she was asking things like where is your toilet and asking how do you goto to the toilet through the day, do you use a camode? The point is I cannot use my hands on a bad day, but it is how you get people to help you like, needing help to go up the stairs..... I am unable to use my oven as I have problems bending due to the OA in my spine....... it goes on and on......it is so awful we have to fight for what we are entitled to, and yet those people that act their way through benefits penalizes genuine people..... my case has gone to the commissioner and has been given \"leave to appeal \" as there was errors to way they found their reasons to why they worked out their conclusions, and so my appeal will be soon so I understand Di xxxxx Good luck hun, my friend won her appeal she only has FM so it can be done!!!!!

I hope you are ok too Linda xx, my shoulders are in pain today and the pain in my hip has not gone away so just got to go with the flow..... Tramadol are uselss

Well my dear friends I hope that you all are coping with your aches and pains, take care xxxxxxxxxx

    Hi Ses, Linda & Everyone!

Thanks Ses & Linda yes did have a good time with Sophie. Was tiring and went to bed early last night. Saw Amy and Sophie again today as Amy needed some help tidying up as couldn't get much done with Sophie being demanding. We finally got her to take a dummy today! Should make things a bit easier now for Amy. I tricked her and gave her my washed little finger as usual and then after a while slipped the dummy in to her mouth and she started sucking. It was a not a very big end on the dummy to suck no bigger than end of my finger lol. Amy has a draw full of dummies she has bought in desperation. My right shoulder and arm did ache a bit after holding her for a while but ok now.

Did my good deed for the day lol.

I hope your pain is bearable today Ses. It is so hard to find something that works well for the pain. You are beating me now Linda with your present buying. Reall7 must get some more soon. I have got my cards though but not written them out yet.

Hope everyone else is coping ok.

    Love Tess x x

    HI there once again xxx

I do hope that everyone is having a better day and I hope Sophie takes to the dummy as I find babies can be more content to having a soother, the only downside is when they get to Ethan age of nearly three he loves his dodey too I put the plug in lol  when he has a tantrum  but the dodey fairy may come for it at xmas exchanging to give him his Igglty Pigglty Bike and other toys smile

I am off to the docs tomorrow so I am so hoping I get support from the new doctor!!!!

Take care my dear friends xxxxxxxxxx
