Advice needed....bad infestation!

Posted , 116 users are following.

Hi. So glad I found this site! I responed to another thread (how much do I not want to hear that word!) but thought I'd start a fresh one to describe my situation (hell!) and seek advice

I teach so I tend to blame the kids for the infections. I've had threadworms twice in 4 years despite being very hygenic at school. Each time they took some shifting.

My latest infestation is terrible. It started 9 weeks ago (saw worm in anus) and then realised I have been showing other symptoms but hadn't put 2 and 2 together.

I took an Ovex tablet but because you then have to do a massive clean I then took some Ovex liquid formula a week later incase I inhaled eggs in dust. I took the second Ovex at the right time. Things improved.

Into the 3rd week I took another tablet (a right pill popper I am!) just to be safe. Could I have made myself immune to the tablets?

I didn't change my diet and continued to drink quite a bit of alcohol on nights out. Lo and behold they came back with a vengeance.

I had them in my vagina and intestines (very itchy bottom). I freaked and took Ovex. 4 days later it hadn't improved so I saw my Doctor and like a fool, broke down in tears at age 30!

She couldn't work out why Ovex wasn't doing the job so she assumed it was down to my hygene on some level. I said that it was always possible that I was inhaling the eggs when dusting/hoovering etc. What a farce.

She gave me Pripsen (powder sachet). This certainly calmed them and I started to pass them (dead) BUT all the while my vagina was very sore and the discharge (sorry for the detail but it may help others!!) was 'stringy, white and worm like'.

Yes I freaked. Unsure as to whether they were dead. I assumed that Pripsen was getting rid...doing it's job. I made massive change to diet - no wine/beer, chocolate, cheese, bread. Cut down on carbs. Stopped all processed food. Bought stuff from Holland and Barrett herbal shop.

All went well until... the mucus in my nose appeared white and stringy. The flaming things had entered my nasal passages. I don't know how. I'd read on the internet that it was possible (they NEVER say this on the treatment information leaflet!). I freaked. My nose was itchy. I tried nasal spray...this was hurting my nose as there wasn't actually anything wrong per se. I continued with the cleaning and swabbing of all bodily areas.

I took another Ovex a day earlier than recommended (I could tell they were alive in my gut) and sure enough started passing dead worms in stools. Freaked again. Seriously - at this point I thought I was going insane. Couldn't sleep. Felt weak. Spending an absolute fortune on cleaning products. Started to actually throw away clothes, knickers and duvets (see, insane!!)

Okay, let me end this essay...sorry. Basically, I have one Pripsen sachet left to take on Friday but I still have stringy mucus in nose. Vagina is showing 'worm' symptoms again ...and...they are coming out of my eye discharge (not kidding!). I have no idea if they are alive as they are soo small and stringy (like the nose). Worse when I wake up in the morning. I was getting more crusty sleep in the eyes...then I had a proper look...and got a hell of a shock. Nearly vomited even though they were tiny and dead.

I am in hell. I do not know how to kill them in these areas. The internet says it's possible for them to reach these regions but offers no solutions.

I'm eating soo much fruit but I read that this could encourage. I just don't know what to do for the best. I am exhausted - I can't sleep, have rings under eyes, my hands are soo sore and fingers look like I've been in the bath for a month. I won't have friends over and they have noticed 'I'm ill'. School starts tomorrow and I am dreading it.

Sorry for the ramblings but I wanted to be honest and give a complete picture!

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE?

Anyone ever had the discharge in the eyes, nose, vagina (sorry guys)

I am at my wits end and soo run down with all this.

Thanks for your time.

Ally37, the worms pop in and out? You need to collect samples to take to the doctor. I don't know if 4 mebendazole is a safe dose for an adult, but I know that 3 are typically given in a hospital setting. Be very careful about medicating the boys. Take a doctor's advice.

If these are not threadworms but some other more malevolent species, they could constitute a public health hazard.

How long are they? Are they still moving when they come out?

    Hello again,

I was off line for a while but as I see more and more sufferers emerge.....

So far I have not found a cure. Low sugar diet helps to reduce symptoms - to make them bearable. I have developed OCD when it comes to cleaning.... Doctors refuse to investigate as my symptoms apparently shouldn't exist and I am profoundly fed up.

On the positive note I would like to encourage new sufferers that hopefully your case is not as hopeless as mine :-)

If anybody has any advice how to get rid of long term persistent infestation, please let me know.....

    Wishing you well

    Belissa,

Samples. You have to show doctors samples, or they will not believe you. Have you actually seen the worms?

Hi ItsJustLife, Belissa etc. Last few days have been hell. I've been collecting specimens like mad and now my partner has seen them, and agrees I am not insane and that they AREworms or somewthing, I feel a lot better. This week I have been to my local infectious diseases hospital in Manchester (UK) and begged 3 consultants to do basic tests (eyes, stools, vagina...sorry). Seen 2 GPs x 2 and they both are still saying that threadworms/pinworms cannot migrate to sinuses or even vagina WHAT?!!!!. I'm pulling them out of my eyes and nose (1-3mm long) every hour. Eyes are blurred. Had a delivery of collodial silver, finally, its amazing for my eyes. cLEARS THEM immediately but I need to use them every 2-3 hours. I am so angry and frustrated. I have a career in the media, a young family and I am active member of the community. Why would I be making all this up? I've now written nasty letters to the NHS and my GP surgery manager to say that really in the UK it should not be this hard to get some help. I've called the Liverpool School of Tropical med x 3 who said that they hear that GPs don't listen all the time and also worms can migrate!!!! What hurts is that for just £25, which I have offered to pay, my GP can send all my samples to a proper lab specialising in parasites but even that is too hard for them. Little do these people know that my day job is a health PR and if I prove that i have got worms and then hopefully get some proper help, I am going to kick up such a storm in the press. I don't care, I will be that case study on the daily mail etc as this condition, all of its side effects and little known links to cancer and auto immune diseases, needs to be addressed as does the treatment of 'normal' tax paying people in NHS England. Phew. That felt good So how is everyone else? smile

This is something that I posted in a different thead. You might find it helpful to print out and take with your samples to the GP. Best of luck! IJL x

    CROSS-POST FOLLOWS:

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3233009/

I've been scanning PubMed. The search term "Enterobius vermicularis" brings up hundreds and hundreds of articles. Many of the articles are free.

There are reported cases of pinworm infestation in the eye, as well as in the vagina and the urinary system!

I think this is under-reported. The people who are suffering such symptoms should print this article out and take it to their GP.

From what I've read, the typical 'hospital' treatment is 300mg to 500mg of mebendazole - repeated over a duration of 3 days to 2 weeks. For those of you in the UK, this equates to 3 to 5 Ovex tablets.

ally37, you might find my last post helpful when it gets approved. Check back in a day or so. I've posted a link to a PubMed article talking about your exact problem.

Meanwhile, you might be interested to know that the drug piperazine phosphate (the active ingredient in Pripsen powders) is no longer available in the UK. I contacted the drug company that had the licence for Pripsen and they were of no help. The reason they gave for the withdrawal of Pripsen from the UK market is that it is difficult to source human grade piperazine phosphate. Can you imagine? You can still buy it for animals, and some people are using that as an option. I complained to the MHRA, but they didn't want to know.

The advantage of piperazine phosphate is that it paralyses the worms, allowing them to be flushed intact from the intestines via bowel movements. Mebendazone, on the other hand, kills the worms. Some doctors believe that the worms' bodies decompose and break up inside the bowel, allowing eggs to hatch and retro-infest the host without following the fingers to mouth route. It sounds yucky, but it is believed to be the reason why mebendazole (Ovex) is so ineffective. There are thousands of worm eggs in each female threadworm. Doesn't sound encouraging, does it?

I've written about this in other threads. If it's possible to search my posts, you might find more information of help.

    Best wishes,

    IJL

IJL your posts are so useful. So perhaps I should try and get some animal pip phosphate? Can you give me a clue as to where to find the article if they don't authorise your post..I can just search pubmed? I've been researching scholars that are untested in roundworm in the uk to see if they can help/want to help me. I'm also going to try eye tests next week. Any views on colonic irrigation/hydrotherapy. If you come across anyone like me in the uk let me know as I want to speak with others face to face to form a group and put a huge case/story together if possible

    No problem.

You just need to go to the PubMed web site and search in the box for

"Enterobius vermicularis in a 14-Year-Old Girl's Eye" then click on the free PDF case study. Print it for your GP.

That's the species. If you want more stories, just search for "Enterobius vermicularis"

I suggest you get a diagnosis from your GP. They might want to send samples away.

As for getting a group together, easier said than done. The establishment doesn't want to know. Until it happens to them. The trouble with Western society is that we're too inhibited to talk about these things. Consequently, our pets get better treatment than we do.

The rest of my post is underneath:

There are reported cases of pinworm infestation in the eye, as well as in the vagina and the urinary system!

Just to reiterate, Mebendazole treatment can be very expensive. It's cost me a small fortune so far. Eventually, it worked.

Piperazine Phosphate is far cheaper but less lucrative for the pharmaceutical companies.

They're in it for the money. If they can give temporary relief and gain repeat customer, they're happy.

I don't advise anyone to use pet meds. Anybody that choose to do so should obviously make sure they research very carefully and make sure that it's the right stuff and in the right quantities. Many pet worming and flea products don't even tell you on the packet what's in them! After the Bob Martin scandal (where thousands of domestic cats died horrible deaths) I would certainly be very, very careful.

    Cheers,

    IJL

Remember, these articles aren't about hookworm or roundworm or any other species. These are cae studies on pinworm A.K.A. theadworm ,the humble and - allegedly - least harmful of all the worms that inhabit humans:

"Eggs containing larvae of Enterobius vermicularis in vaginal smear"

"Enterobius vermicularis in the male urinary tract: a case report"

"Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) infection of the liver mimicking malignancy: Presentation of a new case and review of current literature"

"Incidental parasitic infestations in surgically removed appendices: a retrospective analysis"

"Enterobius vermicularis in the nose: A rare entity"

    "Ectopic Enterobius vermicularis"

All great thanks IJL and yes I'm fighting with my Gp as he does not believe me or that this is possible. I showed him many samples of bits and bobs and hopefully having blood tests done and stools next week. All the best

    Dear Belisa and Daisy26...

I know how external infestation can be devastating...I use coconut oil. I keep a bottle near me and use it whenever I feel anything...

I recommend you go and read the old posts and benefit from the info/suggestions people have been sharing. there is another post starting with if you have parasite, you should read this (or something like that).

What I thought could make ur life easier for now:

-Coconut oil rubbed on skin kills worms. It is recommended before u take a shower, to rub skin and hair with it and wait for 20-25 min. people wrote they use it with their food as well.

-Albendazol is more powerful. It is taken on empty stomach (once per day/3 days) unalike Mebendazole taken with heavy meals (twice a day/3 days). One dose of Mebendazol does not seem to make any difference.

-putting Vaseline or cotton with coconut oil to close anus seems a good idea. If there is internal infestation, continuing with clove powder will do.

-eating pineapple – papaya on empty stomach helps.

Please go on youtube and search for ayruvedic treatment of parasites. They shoe few ways to kill them. One I tried once was to go for a week on: breakfast with some fresh coconut then have a glass of milk with 3 spoons of castor oil – 3 hours and a half. Later I could see dead adult worms in stool!

-what I wish I could find was Diatomaceous earth… people seem to be happy with it and it s not harmful.

-People are not recommending using herbals and medication together.

-If you are into homeopathy, Cina is the relevant medication. And for herbals there is the extract of grapefruit seeds.

In general some bodies reject these creatures. It seems that alkaline environment does not suit them. So if you can make a switch to healthy food, it can be also supportive. There are many ways- just google it...

-Try to leave cloths in the sun as much as u can – or if it s cold enough to freeze them

Good luck to us all ...

I battled pinworms for a year or so and finally was able to get rid of them by changing my diet and using DE.

I first did the mebendazole thing for a long time, even ordering ovex from outside the U.S. but it didn't work for me... The itching and sores on my bottom were horrible, I didn't think I would ever be normal again, and the doctors just say there's no parasite infestation, it's in my head.

I ended up completely eliminating added sugar from my diet, and I have been taking 1 tsp. DE with water or pineapple juice twice a day for about 6 months now. I also did the one month humaworm cleanse, and after showering I was using DE as a powder on my bottom because I read somewhere that the sharp particles will penetrate the eggs.

I am not sure if it was the combination of all the above, or which of these things was the ultimate "cure", but I am now symptom free, even though I continue to take the DE and don't eat sugar. It took a long, long time for the symptoms to clear up, especially my bottom. I am too afraid to stop doing what I'm doing, and I plan to do the humaworm cleanse again... once per year just as a preventative, although it's not the most comfortable thing to do. The herbs really gave me some heartburn pain.

    Hello everyone,

I have been following this discussion and it has been encouraging to see that I am not the only one suffering. I have had TW for years on and off and it has ruined my life. I am trying to do as much research as I can. I found a site which apparently cleans out every type of parasite found all over the body and all the eggs using all natural ingredients ( including the ones that are hard to get rid of). However, it costs a lot of money, I have been thinking if I should risk paying a lot of money and try it out because I can't take it anymore or if I should wait and continue to do more research?
