Advice please

How do I get my doctor to consider a diagnosis of ME :?:
We actually have some transport again now so I have an appointment to see my GP next week to plead my case but I am worrying about how to do it.
I have constantly told him about my loooong list of aches, pains, chills, brain fog and frequent bouts of exhaustion and so far he has stuck with prescribing antidepressants and yet more blood tests for thyroid, anaemia etc, etc :vampire:
Does anyone have any advice please on the best way to plead my case?
Do I ask him outright for a referral ....... I am worried he might think I am telling him how to do his job ....... or do I bombard him with yet another long list of ailments and hope he takes the hint
It's not that I actually WANT to have [b:98b213e9bf]ME[/b:98b213e9bf] but I am desperate to know why I feel the way I do before I lose what little sanity I have left :?
Any suggestions would be most gratefully received :D
Kind regards and hope you all have a good weekend

I find it hard to believe that having listened to you your GP is still maintaining you are depressed  How on earth does depression have anything to do with severe dental pain for goodness sake, for a start
Right then gang .... READY FOR ACTION :grrr:
Instead of a coach trip to Dales's shopmobility, we're all going to join force and go down to the West Country and sort out that so called GP :doctor:
We'll teach him a thing or two!! We will beat him to a pulp with our ME bibles ...... that'll learn him
NO-ONE MESSES WITH US
I feel so upset for you Kristal .. have only just got in from a meeting and I'm still sitting here with my coat on :steam:
We will find a way of helping you somehow

You absolutely must find a GP who is able to distinguish ME from a state of chronic depression ..... your's is obviously incapable of doing so by the sound of things
We won't give up on this one until you get the right diagnosis :ok:

seriously though kristal, i think you need to change doctor which you are more than entitled to do.
i am really lucky with my GP, especially after hearing that not all doctors are as sympathetic to CFS, and considering i have a history of mild depression. the first doctor i saw definitely thought it was just depressed and told me to eat more tomatos :tomato:

Sorry I didn't reply to all your lovely messages yesterday but I was depressed   .... I suppose the doctor was right really because if I wasn't depressed when I went in to see him I certainly was by the time I came out
Thank you all for the fantastic messages of support, I have had a good old cry plus a good giggle at the thought of you wonderful bunch of people beating up my GP with your handbags   Do you think we could borrow a few mobility scooters to round him up with first because he is quite young so I suspect he can be a bit nippy
Not that I want you to get the impression that I have been wasting much time or energy plotting revenge on him of course :x
I don't think my hubby could understand why I was so nervous about the meeting but after witnessing it first hand even he is flabbergated at the absolute denial of ME or any associated illnesses and he even spent time last night plotting plans of contacting other professionals for help .... I suppose he (hubby) can't be all bad then.
Anyway I feel pretty pooped today, plus I have a dentist appointment later so I don't know how much I will get done but I have the idea that I could contact the local ME support group and chat to them about their GP's to try and find a more sympathtic one plus of course following up on your other suggestions.
Thanks again everyone, you really are a unique bunch of people and you somehow always manage to make me smile :D :D :D
This is what you all are
I hope today brings good things for you all

So pleased that we were able to make you smile a little after such a negative GP visit. I was really surprised to hear he is a youngster ..... I expected some old fuddy duddy well overdue for retirement and totally set in this ways  I just find it hard to believe that any youngish GP would be in complete denial of ME.
But don't you worry ..... we can still see him off good and proper!
Thank goodness your husband did go with you .... he can now see first hand what you have been up against.
Good luck with his search for help.
Take care

At least your spirit is intact and you have got us :P (Is that a good thing :nahnah: though) !
It makes me realise how lucky I am with my Dr. Jenny :doctor: :cupid: She is a star and never makes me feel like I am wasting her time. She says she admires me for being so strong, even though I always think I am a wreck  Thanx Jenny :ok:

Some of you seem to have really struck lucky with your doctors ...... this is me green with envy
I agree with you Katie, I would have thought that my [i:79fc9bc4b5]young[/i:79fc9bc4b5] doctor would have more forward thinking ideas but he seems adamant in his views, although he is part of quite a large practice so perhaps he is towing the line with the group decisions on expenditure & policies etc :?:
Anyway I have actually managed to do something positive today (brain firing a bit better), I have contacted a local support group to ask if they can recommend a doctor in the area who is supportive of ME so I have my fingers crossed and wait to hear back from them.
I hope the sun is shining wherever you are today

makes me want to turn up to see dr peck with a large bunch of flowers  not only did she diagnose me within 6 months, but i think she gave me a double appointment last time and really chatted to me about how i was feeling, and is chasing up my referral to the specialist.
but it does make me cross that this should be a 'lucky' experience  i really think that today there is absolutely no excuse for a doctor to be ignorant about ME/CFS, or unsympathetic. we should all have access to doctors who are at least prepared to entertain the possibility.
im also feeling a bit cross because there still seems to be this belief that it's a 'new' disease. just doing even the slightest bit of research shows that people have been suffering from this type of thing for a long, long time (please read, ricky gervais!). it's also not just a 'western' thing, and just because something is not named elsewhere does not mean it doesn't exist.
it's like so many other 'new' diseases. people often think depression or eating disorders are modern ailments, but women have always pined or wasted away for 'love' or sadness, and people have always suffered from melancholia or low mood. grrr. :grrr:
sorry to get on my high horse, i just hate ignorant people, and it's particularly outrageous when it's your doctor, who you have to be able to trust.
going to go and calm down now.
