An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

Hi Cheryl,
I literally crushed up some borax (the borax here in Vietnam comes in rocks) and added a bit to water, stirred until it dissolved, then added more, stirred until it dissolved and repeated those steps until the borax would no longer dissolve in the water. Baking soda hasn't been my schtick, although it's worked for many. When I did test with it, we did the exact same thing as we did with the borax. At first I just applied the solutions with a q-tip (borax to one side, baking soda to the other) and let the area air-dry. After a while, when I saw it was working, I would just soak a cloth, wring it out, dab the area, and then lay the cloth over it and relax with a book or TV. Hope this helps.

I put a tablespoon of borax in about a half a cup of water and then put my washcloth in it and apply it to my VJ when I'm watching TV leave it there for 25 two and half hour

Hi Alistar and everyone else on this list. I'm very grateful your husband is the industrious researcher that he is and found this simple inexpensive treatment that unfuses the skin. I'm also very happy for you that you are living sympton free now (I believe). Good for you!
Even though I am a huge advocate for natural health I have a tendency to be a skeptic as well and won't try anything new until completely sure I'm not going to do any further harm to myself. I was diagnosed with LS many years ago right after a heavy dose of antibotics for an ulcer and prescribed the usual steroid cream. Didn't use the cream after reading the side affects and symtoms subsided for many years...or so I thought. Long story short I have considerable fusing and a lot of white skin over my clitoris and labia. Went to the Vulva Clinic here in BC last year (waiting 6 months for my appt) only to be told to use the steriod cream as it would help. Since I was tearing at the slightest touch I said no way and have basically used nothing....until now.
I joined this group 3 years ago looking for answers and have followed conversations in hopes I would learn something new to help. Recently I've tried your borax solution on average once a week because that's when I remember. I would say it's been 4 weeks of periodic use and yesterday I felt something different that led me to look last night before bed. Even with the limited use I can see a difference. There is actually pink skin appearing on my clitoris and its not completely covered.
So just wanted to introduce myself and to say thank you for this information. I appreciate all the feedback from all you women who have used this solution and the success you've had with it as it gave me the courage to try it.
I'm now going to make another batch of solution and use it daily to see how quickly I return to normal.
Thank you!!!!

Oh Jackie! I'm so happy to hear that. And I get the fear. When my husband discovered this and we decided to try it out, I was terrified. But at the same token, things weren't so bad that testing the treatment out for a month or so would make a huge difference. Plus, living in Vietnam, it was a chance I had to take considering I didn't know if I would be able to easily access the steroid creams I would need. And I HATED the idea of using those creams. Anyway, I am just so happy for you. And thank you for posting. Sincerely it's posts like these that help so many take a chance. Please let us know how things go!
On another note, I'm originally from Vancouver if you're meaning BC Canada

I have spent hours reading through these responses after another poster referred me here. My 10 year old daughter has LS, and we used the clobetasol for over a year until her skin was completely back to normal. Now it is flaring up again and I am hesitant to get back on the clobetasol regimen. I am very into natural health, clean eating, watch what we use in and on our skin and in our home. This is such an awful diagnosis for a young girl and I am desperate to help my daughter manage this naturally or cure herself! Do you think this borax treatment would be okay on a child? Has anyone tried it? I don't want it to sting her of course... I have read over and over how to make the saturated solution but really wish there was a "recipe" so I didn't overdo it. Would you say like 1/4 tsp borax per 1 cup of water for instance?
Currently trying a homeopathic cream from a naturopath but it hasn't helped her skin at all so far. Visiting the Children's Derm in seattle next week and I know he will just refer us back to the clob....
Thanks in advance for any help. I have spent countless hours researching and crying over this diagnosis and am a little hopeful after reading through this thread. Just not sure it is suitable for a 10 year old.

Oh man, I just wrote a long email and it got deleted. That's so frustrating!
Okay, the science of the solution does not have an exact recipe - I think because no water is created equal. So literally take whatever amount of water you want, add some crushed borax, stir until it's dissolved. Once it has, add more, stir, dissolve. Continue doing this until it will no longer dissolve, meaning you will see some crystals sitting on the bottom of the glass. I have never experience stinging from the solution. While I'm not a doctor, I do believe that the treatment would be find for your daughter. Borax is a naturally occuring substance, clobetasol is not. Extended use of it would be worrying. Now then, if you have read the responses, you will have seen that a couple of people said they had a reaction, but that that they were going to try a solution that wasn't so borax heavy. I would find those comments and directly ask those contributors how they were doing. I know their reactions were not life-threatening, and from what I gathered, their reaction were no more painful that a flare-up. But again, I'd ask them directly.
Something I would look into, start exploring ways to help your daughter manage stress. At 10 years old she has big life ahead of her, and if there is one thing we can all agree on, stress triggers flare-ups. Maybe explore meditation. As well, some contributors have gotten special toilet paper that is clean of any bleaches n' chemicals.
So far, I've been using this borax treatment for over a year, on and off. I've not been using anything else other than some coconut oil at times for hydration. I'm pretty lax, but everything has remained under control. When I feel like I'm having a flare-up, I use the borax solution. It's been an amazing discovery for me and now for so many. I hope it will be for your daughter as well. Please let us know. xx

Hello again, so after we saw the derm after my last post he said her skin looked pretty good and that we didn't need to do any treatment, so I haven't been. Just have checked her a couple of times a month. So far her skin has looked pretty healthy but I noticed tonight she has a small bruise looking/brown spot on her labia. No whiteness but she did say it feels sore down there. Would the borax solution be helpful with the sore/bruise area or just for whiteness? I'm so sad to see it is flaring up again, I was hoping it had gone into remission
how often would you recommend the solution on a q tip if it would be helpful? She's in school all day so I can't do every bathroom use.

Hi Grace,
I've had those blood bruises before, and unfortunately they are affiliated with LS. Those spots are supposedly affiliated with friction, but when I used to get them I didn't recall having done anything different. I would just start treating again with borax. Recommended use would depend upon how your daughter handles it - if she does not have any side-effects from the treatment then I'd apply it morning and night, and just keep on doing it for awhile, maybe 1-2 months. The unfortunate thing is with children they experience so many stresses in their lives, everything seems to be stressful! School tests, school performances, school sports, school everything! I'm just so sorry that she is having to deal with this from such a young age. I wish I could offer you more help but alas this was just an experiment with fortunate results, so I there's only so much I can suggest.

Thank you for your quick response. She doesn't seem to have any side effects from the borax.. I used it for a week a few months ago but then stopped as the Derm said her skin looked good. This morning the blood/bruise type sore looked worse than last night and she also has a small tear starting at the hood area that is hurting her when she spreads her legs. I feel SO awful for her and wish I could take this away. Does the borax seem to help with the bruises and tears? Thank you for all of your help and sharing this info.
