An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

Just a question on the Borax solution. I've got my box of Borax and I put about a tablespoon in a half cup of water. Stirred and stirred and stirred, shook vigorously, etc. and this stuff does NOT dissolve. I have it in a little container right now with the full tablespoon appearing to sit on the bottom top with some cloudy looking water. Obviously some dissolved but it's minor. I am dipping a Q-tip in the solution as well as pushing it down in the Borax, but what did I do wrong. It really doesn't dissolve like I feel like you all are describing.

Hi, too much borax, not enough water. I use 2 full tsp. of Borax in 4 cup bottle (32 oz) but 1 tsp. at a time, shake until dissolved, ad another tsp. and shake, if completely dissolved, I ad maybe another half or 1 tsp. & shake.
Don't know what anyone else mixes, as long as it's disslolved, you might have a bit undissolved, but that's no problem. Good luck

OK, thanks. I may have misunderstood the method. I thought one was supposed to make a "saturated solution" which means that it's pretty heavy on the Borax.

Yes, the saturated solution means that the water is saturated with borax. But the easiest way to get there is as Helen described. Add some borax to the water a small amount at a time, stir to dissolve and repeat. Depending on the size of grain, you can also pound it down finer - here in Vietnam my borax literally comes in large rocks, so I have a mortar & pestle I use to pound it down.

Good morning Alistar, just a quick update and also hoping for your thoughts. I got myself a kilo of borax and began with about 3 teaspoons in a plastic water bottle (about 75 cl size). With this solution I just rinsed myself 2/3 times a day after using the toilet. After a week I found the entrance area was quite inflamed and felt sore and dry. I have given the borax a break since and just used bicarb.which I find to be soothing but doesn't stop my symptoms i.e., white patches and soreness after intercourse and emptying my bowels. A few days ago I started with the borax again, this time just using 3 pinches in the same water bottle. This time it does soothe and the redness around my vaginal entrance has gone back to a normal colour almost immediately! But.. a vertical crack in the skin has appeared in the crease area on one side of my labia. Do you think this could be a fused area releasing or am I using too much borax? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

For obvious reasons, it's difficult to say. However, speaking from my experience with the unfusing, I initially found it itchy & a bit stingy, but for a very short period. It subsided very fast, unlike when I have a flare-up. As well, I had very minimal fusing, which is why I think I had such quick success with the unfusing. So I think those are some of the things to think about when trying to establish what is happening. I certainly hope it's unfusing! While using the borax solution, if you aren't already, but sure to moisturize with a good oil!! Thanks for the update!

Ah yes I understand. Well I haven't been using an oil or moisturiser along with the borax so I'll start doing that today and see how I progress. I used the borax solution first thing this morning and then salt water rinses after each toilet visit today which seems to have helped heal the crack a little. Thanks again for your advice

I was diagnosed over 10 years ago with lichen after numerous dr visits to many different Dr's. I was so red and so inflamed it hurt to breath much less sit, lay or even wear clothes. I followed dr orders and after my treatment i went into remission for about 8 years. Now I'm in a flare up because of stress but thanks to you Alistar and the information, about the borax im feeling wonderful just after 3 days of soaking in a sitz bath for 20 minutes each day. I use pure organic coconut oil to keep moist through out the day and baking soda spritz after using the restroom. I just want to say THANK YOU and wish i could give you a hug. I hope the borax works as well for others as it has me.

That is so wonderful to hear Sheila! However, I'm sorry to hear stress broke your run of remission. This LS thing can be so crushing, but when you find something that can help, it makes things feel a little less daunting. In a way, we're all in this together, so sharing experiences and in the case, an experiment, can really help turn things around. And I appreciate the virtual hug

Ty Alistar. I just had to add a quick note this morning. I examined myself in the mirror this morning and I've noticed unfusing at my clitoral hood and inner labia just after 3 days!!! Ive been burning and tingling like crazy since I started the borax but evidently that's why. I'm just so amazed. I do have to say I been taking a 16 oz bottle of water and doing the saturation until it doesn't dissolve and poured that in my sits bath and then added more water to fill it up. I hope others get the same relief/results from this.

Hello, I got hold of some borax and have been using it daily for about a month. I make the solution up with water and soak a tiny bit of cloth in it at place it around the inner labia which is dissappearing before my eyes. It's so scary. It's like chasing your tail and never catching it. I know it must be different for everyone but I wonder how, if ever, its going to help with unfusing. Do you think that the stronger the solution the better it works? I won't stop using it because there is nothing else out there.

How many tablespoons of borax do you use in your water your shallow water I use about 3 tablespoons if I were you just keep doing what you're doing and you will eventually unfuse do it everyday

You may need to do more than just soak a cloth and put it on your labia to start. I swabbed on a saturated solution every morning and night for several months before I started to see the unfusing. After that, when things had improved immensely, I was able to cut back to tub soaks, or sprays. (I assume you know that a saturated solution is what you have after you stir the borax in a container of water until it no longer dissolves.) Also, 1/3 cup of baking soda in a tub for 20 minutes works along side Borax for healing.

I agree, I've stared applying the solution with a q tip twice a day but even this does seem like enough of the solution going on to the area at one sitting. How long did you swab for at a sitting? And the other thing I was wondering about is how long after you've done a borax session do you apply some sort of lubrication, to keep things moist? I don't want to dilute the applied borax by putting other things on top or do you think it won't make a difference?

I applied the solution with a Q-tip for about 10 minutes or so, I guess. I just kept applying it over and over until every area was dripping with it. Afterward (in the morning), I waited for a couple of hours before applying any oils. At night, I didn't apply any oils at all because I didn't want to dilute the solution. Of course everyone is different, but if you can tolerate not being moist for a little while, I think it's more helpful that way.
The important thing to remember is that although some people begin to see changes right away, others (like me) had to wait a long time, so don't be discouraged.
