I Was wondering if anyone had experienced being ivovermedicated and what were your symptoms?

I've been going through hell the last month with extreme anxiety and tiredness feeling dizzy/lightheaded random pains in head and eyes, and now I've  had it confirmed I've been taking 25mcg to much, anyone experienced something similar I've felt like I've been going out of my mind x

Hi there - yes I was overmedicated for quite a while. I complained of acute anxiety and chest pains and was put on a 24 hour heart monitor. I was a bit naive then - have learnt a lot since. Eventually my dose was reduced back down to 100 mcg so I wondered why it was ever increased rolleyes

Sorry for the delay in answering - I've found it can take at least 3 months for a new medication level to show its true effects. Mine was increased from 100 to 125 just over 3 months ago and today my hands are warm!! lol

We are given T4 only - even though our thyroid produces 4 hormones - and its a long lasting/slow action hormone

It is just horrible. I know what you are going through. see my post. (rick5258) I have had so many things in my body screwed up since starting Synthroid, I am ready to give it up all together, and just deal with being Hypo. Now just waiting to see a specialist.

    Hi everyone

Thought I'd update you on how I was getting on.  I've had my medication reduced for about 5 month now.  I continue to lose weight and to date I've lost 1 stone and 4lb.I feel great.  I started to take sea kelp and I think it has promoted my thyroid as I started to get body aches again so will go get my bloods checked, never know my medication may need reducing again. My advice listen to your body and don't give into doctors excuses like I did. x

I had my medication reduced about 3 weeks ago due to over-medication. I've gone down from 150 mcg to 125 mcg Levothyroxine. I'd been feeling very tired, anxious for some time but was really worried about having diarrhea for about 3 or 4 weeks. I was only eating chicken and boiled rice for ages so obviously that wasn't helping and I lost a fair amount of weight (I'm hypothyroid but naturally skinny!). I started to feel a little better about a week ago but yesterday I started to get the shaky hands and upset stomach again sad I'm thinking it's because I've been working non-stop for the past week and getting very stressed out with certain situations. I'm wondering if overdoing things can make the symptoms worse? Hope you're starting to feel better dizzydoll. smile

    Hi Dizzydoll

Yes I was overmedicated when my dose of 100 mcg of levo was increased to 150. I began to have panic attacks, my heart raced uncontrollably sending me to A&E where I was put on betablockers. It was some time before my dose was reduced again to 100 mcg. However I was then back at the 'undermedicated' stage rolleyes

It has taken a long time to persuade GP's that I needed to see an endocrinologist (I'd asked for this for 8 years) who will now monitor me more closely. You know your own body - you know when you feel well and when you dont.

Ive been over medicated off and on over the years, but doctors just said oh leave it, it will come around again...Sometimes it did...I didnt know much about over medicated, but now i have....I think when i would lose weight, it would make my meds too high....They think my meds too high made me lose weight...but that doesnt work quite like that, and normal GP dont know much...I dont feel anxiety or all the other..Had a few sleepless nights etc. I found out my Blood Pressure is fairly high, so for how long I wonder?  This can give heart disease...plaqued arteries etc....Here where i live in Canada they dont seem to check blood pressure like they use to....duh!That may well have been going on for years...i use to have pretty good blood pressure as i recall...

Hi there - I'm extremely fortunate to have an undertsanding endo whoallows me to adjust my own meds according to my symptoms. It took a while for my GP pharmacy to get the idea but they now provide me with different increments of levo. However the biggest change to my thyroid health was made by the introduction of T3 with my T4. smile

    ....and lol

I can only lose weight by dropping carbs. Kind of like the Atkins diet but much healthier with lots of veg and salad. Works every time I want to drop some more weight. Hope this helps (I'm never hungry smile )

    Hi dizzy doll,

several years ago I had insomnia and I went to doc and asked her what I can do for the insomnia.  Then I was told my thyroid was out of whack.  My dosage was too much.  Once they reduced it the insomnia went away.  Now years later all of a sudden I have this horrible insomnia.  I also have severe untreated sleep apnea and many other conditions.  One night I had slept 5 hrs next night 3 hrs and next night not at all.  It has disrupted my life in every way.  I can't go to work and worried bout that.  Then I remembered my thyroid so I asked the doc to check and I am praying that is the answer.  Doc gave me sleeping pills and first night I DID NOT sleep at all.  I cry all. The time am sooo desparate to find answer.  Also have depression, anxiety and agoraphobic.  Taking Zoloft, Ativan and now sleeping pill still can't sleep.  Can anyone help?  Sooo desparate.

Not lecturing, but I also was not wearing bi-pap that I paid $2k out of pocket until I began reading. Can be deadly , causes idiopathic hypersomnia to high has caused me to lose my job, be on disability at a $35k loss of wages, and a myriad of other ailments.  If it is financial, there is help. If it is the mask, there are many kinds!  Good luck!
