I Was wondering if anyone had experienced being ivovermedicated and what were your symptoms?

I've been going through hell the last month with extreme anxiety and tiredness feeling dizzy/lightheaded random pains in head and eyes, and now I've  had it confirmed I've been taking 25mcg to much, anyone experienced something similar I've felt like I've been going out of my mind x

Yeah you feel like you are on speed. Your body is racing on the inside and you feel like you are dead physically and you are told you are just adjusting to "normal". You begin to feel neurotic with all sort of aches and pains and a myriad of other symptoms that don't make sense. Meanwhile your whole body is being shifted into dysfunction if you are as lucky as me you end up with Levothyroxine triggered hypertension Mayo Clinic confirmed) then "party time" for healthcare begins. Hope Catherine has answered you cause she has the knowledge and skill to help you and teach you. She helped me unravel the mess. Good luck and God bless

      Hello Cathy,

I want to ask that does hyperthyroid effects on liver?

Or is there some who experience choking in throat due to that or is the part of panic attack?

      Thanks

I can't specifically speak to your question, but I am pretty sure the racing feeling I experienced with the levothyroxine could lead to a panic attack if left unchecked. I never experienced panic attacks. The choking in the throat certainly could be apart of panic , The whole "fight or flight" our body experiences when stressed or in fear or overloaded. I hope Catherine responds to your posts cause she is a very good teacher and knows how to explain body chemistry and physiology

Sania, how are you doing?  I have been overmedicated before and it is very uncomfortable.  I understand how you have been feeling.  I had the terrible anxiety.

Are things getting any better for you?

      Hey Sania,

Were you able to get rid of all the symptoms you experienced like the severe anxiety?? if so, how long did it take you to get better?

I too feel I could be over medicated. I was on 125 mcg for years and felt well then during the menopause I felt anxious, panicky, fast heart rate, pain in right side which eventually turned to a kidney infection. The pain was horrendous and had to go to A & E. I discovered for myself that every time I took Thyroxine it gave me a pain in my right side. After 3 days of no meds the pain went.

I gradually re introduced it and it wasn’t so bad until now and the pain has started again! I have gained weight, can’t sleep and feel panicky over silly things. I am wondering whether to reduce it again although the last blood test last September said normal.

Also last winter (UK) I was vitamin D deficient. Not sure if it’s the vitamin D or Thyroxine causing the pain, any ideas anyone?

Hi Dizzy, I have been experiencing  the same things as you, it will be April before I go back to be checked, taking 112 mcg now, after reading all the post think I'll cut it back and see, one thing I know stress has a lot to do with it and the past year I have had my share, I now started loosing weight, husband had a bad heart attack three months ago this was his second one, he's had to give up his truck driving job, our life was turned up side down, I had extreme anxiety so tired, dizzy, pain in head and eyes never thought it could be from overmedicated, but now I do, thank you for posting.

Hello, I just read all the comments regarding this and even though it is 4 years old I feel identified with your replies. I had a total thyroidectomy 3 years ago, I started using 125 mcg SYNTHROID then after two years my Endo put me on 112 mcg, my Free T4 was in the high normal end of the range and I told him that I wanted my dose lowered because I know I'm very sensitive to have high FT4, my TSH is normal but I have hypethyroid symptoms. Two months ago he lowered my dose to 100 mcg as I requested, still having a high FT4. Now on 88 mcg since Friday. I want to feel like myself again, the anxiety, heat intolerance, nervousness, sensitive to noises, I feel like I'm running a marathon without making a move.

Karla, It takes awhile for FT4 levels to go down after they have been at a certain level for a long time.I was over medicated for 1 year on 125 mcg. It was horrible. And it took a very long time for my body to unwind from that high dose. It was hard to gauge what dose I really needed to be on. All you can do is lower the dose and wait to run labs. I ended up on 100 mcg. I'm 57 yrs old and have been on this dose for 4 years now.I also had to go on an ssri to calm my nerves, nervousness, and anxiety. It was a rough road, but I feel normal now.

Thanks for your reply. I hope this awful feeling goes away, I feel tired. I've been hypothyroid due to HASHIMOTO since I was 6 yrs old, I'm 32 and had my thyroid removed at 29 yrs old. This overmedication is really bad, the worst part is the anxiety.

Hi Laura. I went through the same problem with my synthroid medication (overmedicated) and had to start taking SSRI. Are you still taking it? I have been taking for 6 months. but I want to stop. Finally my TSH is in a regular range now.

Yes, I'm still taking it. It's Paxil and Wellbutrin. I had previously tried Prozac and then Citalopram, but took myself off them because I didn't like how I felt. But the anxiety came back, so I had to get back on an ssri.

Yes, I gained 14 lbs. 😦 I was 137 and now 151.I can't seem to exercise while on Paxil! Not good. I get really sore stiff muscles and need to talk with pdoc about that.

On Citalopram I only gained 8 lbs. And Prozac I lost wt. and was actually underweight @ 125 lbs.

I heard that some ssris mess with your thyroid medication and the one that has been mentioned is Sertraline.

I know for a fact that the first 4-5 months on Citalopram my tsh elevated, and I sure could feel it. But seemed to calm down after 4 months. And then my labs were very stable. My dr. said that happens because they compete for protein binding, and will straighten out after awhile. No need to change thyroid medication.

HI laura. Yeah, during the first 6 weeks I had dry mouth, insomnia, diarrhea, nausea, muscles spasms and sleepiness. 

Me too. And it was rough going. During those 6 weeks, I questioned whether it was ever going to end and make me feel better.
