Anyone have a solution to get rid of all the ads on this PMR forum?

Recently a discussion on this forum was about all the ads here and s couple people recommended using Ad Block. So I downloaded that and all the ads but one stopped appearing - it was wonderful!

I didn't like the large video ad that still appeared between the initial post and the responses but things were better.

And now today the ads are starting to appear again along the right hand side of my screen. My Ad Block says it's enabled.

Im hoping someone has a solution to get rid of these ads - they are so annoying and make it hard for my old eyes to read the forum information.

In the US we have to pay money to get ad blocking. I don't even see them anymore, but it is a shame, I got a nice big screen so I could see more, instead I have more then a quarter of it covered with ads.

If you hit ctrl and the + sign several times, the words get bigger and the ads don't fit on the screen, at least is does on my computer.  Plus it makes it easier to read for us old fogies.

I noticed there's adblock in various forms and spelling, and adblock plus which I use. Currently says its blocking 8 ads.

An addon to adblock plus is Fanboy's Social Blocking List which gets rid of the facebook etc icons that have anti-scroll and sit mindlessly in the middle of the screen for this site.

My computer is a small netbook and must be a tad slow, before I banished them the icons jump around like they were performing at a rodeo. I believe website developers should be given the slowest oldest computers with the slowest possible internet.

Having ads on my screen would be enough to make me politically incorrect.

I don't know if it makes a difference but I use an app on my tablet called

Adblocker. With the ER at the end. And it works great. No ads at all. Maybe try

A different AdBlock. Just a thought.

Strange - because I use AdBlockplus and have nothing in the way of ads here.

Report it to the moderator - because it did happen once before that intrusive ads were removed/calmed down in some way.

I reported it few weeks ago, and the reply was some were being stopped I think....but also it seems they sponsor the site? I used Adblock, and am now being pestered again with them which slows my PC up!  Why should we have to pay to stop these...when we didn`t have them before....someone suggested googlechrome, but not sure about it.....

That`s my rant for the day......

Have tried AdBlocker and AdBlockplus....still getting them!!  looking on this website, it says we can pay to get rid of them, they need the sponsors....must say it`s putting me off somewhat!....didn`t used to have to put up with this....so why now??

      Will keep trying others.....fingers crossed....

Make sure your ad blocker is actually enabled for this site.

Thank you for your comments and ideas. I wonder if our "hardware" is making s different to how our blockers are working.  I mostly use an iPad2.

Now this morning the ads ads along the right side haven't reappeared but I'm still getting the large video that appears near the top left and says "sponsored content". It has strange content.....eg, a trailer for the new Star Wars movie, or an ad with the US football team Carolina Panthers.

I have also noticed that if I log in, the large video ad disappears so maybe that is a key to getting rid of them......someone way smarter than me will need to sort this out!

re Julian's comment about things jumping around, I laid a piece of paper over the right side of my screen as there was so much whizzing around I could hardly focus on reading the forum.

when logging in there's a tick box that says something like "remember me" or "keep logged in". If ticked then login is automatic each time one opens the site. Needs cookies I think.

I have to say - the new way to send the email notifications is driving me up the wall! Where before I could see what the post was about immediately now I have to click twice and get to the forum before I can decide I don't need to look at it. So it takes me four times as long - not amused!

I don't use the notifications so hadn't realised it had changed.

I guess I began to think of having to look to see if I've read something as a sort of mental gymnastics to test my brain function. But on my off days having to look to see what the computer knows already is a tad more than not amusing - pred rage and computers are poor bedfellows, maybe its recalcitrance is some obscure form of anger management assistance. I'm better now I'm on less pred, but the computer still refuses to change.

Clicking more than once for anything is anathema for me.

Last but not least, my internet is through mobile. Much faster but less of it so clicks matter.

On a serious note, I seem to have the sort of mind that absorbs everything around. Which means that things like adverts on sports fields are incredibly intrusive and require a lot of effort to ignore. I can do that but not watching such sport is easier. Most notable after traveling in distant lands was the amount of noise in our developed societies.

I work my way through some 50 posts a day for 2 different sites and about 6 forums - rejecting them from my email box is SO much easier! I wouldn't have as many forums if patient.info would accept my rejection of the ones they seem to have decided I want to join.

But obviously everybody is short of money and the ads are needed. FB at present is even worse - but they don't offer me a choice of "I don't want to see ANY of your poxy ads - they are none of them relevant to me". I have a personal vendetta against things that feel they need to advertise their existence to me - i will buy something once. If I like it/find it is better than my previous choice I will switch. My choice - never to do with blanket ads...

Yes - I can appreciate the intrusion of noise in most societies. Here is not noise-free by any means but it is different: tractors and cow bells are so much preferable to traffic noise (we have that too, just less).

ads are noise to me. Parrots and other birds in a big gum tree are nice to wake up to. Someone has to not use social media so it might as well be me. smile

There are four boxes at the bottom of the feed, which I can ignore completely.  All ads to the side are blocked.  I know how annoying they are because when I was on holiday using my PlayBook it took me forever to read the posts because the ads took time to load.  I don't lnow why anyone thinks ads like this are effective at all.
