Back for more test

Hi guys Gary here again.

I posted a little while ago explaining that I had some symtoms of COPD and that my doctor had put down to asmtha which I did suffer from mildly as a child.

I'm now 29 and all the inhalers that were prescribed Fostair,Seretide and ventolin don't really help at all.

Iv had to go back to see my GP this week and he had now referred me to see a chest specialist as my symptoms are getting progressively worse.

I'm a little more relaxed now knowing that I will get a Propa diognosis and won't be fobbed off with "it's just your asthma " lol

Anyway I hope everyone is doing well and will keep this post updated with the results with the specialist.

Take care guys 😀

good news Gary I am pleased for you. They kept treating me for COPD, which I do have, but I kept saying it's something more, ended up in hospital where is was discovered that I had two clots on my lungs. Sometimes we need a Specialist to find out just what is wrong with us. PS that was 7 years ago. June

Thanks guys I just can't believe I'm having these sort of test done at the age if 29! But I suppose if you don't look after your body it will not look after you lol

I just want know exactly what's going on so I can relax a little bit 😊

How long have you guys been living with COPD?

I have no idea, for years I was told I had asthma (from 50 years ago) and then one day I mentioned my asthma and some big bully nurse screeched at me that I didn't have asthma I had COPD. that was about 20 years ago. Now I am on an oxygen machine and in a wheelchair, but I still enjoy life and there aren't enough hours in the day for me. Asthma is in my family so I just believed what the doctor said. I will be 78 in June and was 28 when I first had lung trouble, so don't think you are about to fall off your twig. Look after yourself, it's your job. good luck, june

Asthma is in my family too and I had it mild as a child but sort of grew out of it as I didn't need any inhalers up until 2 years ago.i was also told my my doctor that it's just my asthma for the last 2 years but I'm glad I'm going for the test now.

Thank god for websites like this one as it gives me a sense of well being knowing there are people you can talk too it's a big help!

Firstly I hope everyone is well and trying to enjoy this lovely weather we are having.

I see the chest specialist on Tuesday and the first thing that was done was a chest X-ray,then my height and weight was taken.i then did a spirometry test.

After finishing that I see the doctor.he gave a quick once over and told me that I don't have COPD and it's possibly my asthma.

I know this is good news but I'm not convinced!

I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor and request a CT scan because I'm sure X-rays don't pick up early stages of COPD?

    Take care Gary

    Hi Gary,

I've had similar simptoms for the past 2 years. I get shortness of breath nearly any time. It started suddenly and didn't really stop since then. Stopped smoking 8 months ago. Was also diagnosed with asthma but it's treatment doesn't seem to be very effective.

What about your results from your specialist?

Hi Robbie sorry to hear your having the same problems I'm having.

The chest specialist did nothing different to what my doctor had done.

I had an X-ray all seemed normal according to the specialist then did a spirometry test and again the results were normal.

      My results were FEV1 4.56 (120%) FVC 5.83 (123%) FEV1/FVC ratio 78%

Im really confused as my symtoms seemed to get worse not better.

Iv now even referred to see a head doctor now as my doctor feels this is all in my head!?

      Only time will tell.

Have you had any tests robbie?

Gary, are you sure we haven't been visiting the same doctor? smile My doctor also told me I should see a psychiatrist because I'm too preoccupied with my disease.

I just had x-rays and spirometric tests. I will go to get surgery and fix my rhinitis next week. Just like yourself, I don't feel better but rather worse.

Haha ya never know Robbie it's a small world pmsl!!

Iv always been an active person Iv played football for 21 years and done slot of long distance running and at the moment I'm really struggling to do more than 2.15 mile after that I'm I'm gasping for breathe!

Throughout the day my breathing gets so bad that it feels like I'm just going to stop breathing altogether, yesterday was a bad day for me I almost took myself to hospital it got that bad.

I need a second opinion but how do you go about getting one lol mYbe I'll ask the head doctor 😂😂😂

Gary, I know what you mean. I started doing sports 2 years ago. Ran some 5-10 miles 3 times a week + doing insanity workouts. Up until last year in october. Now I'm struggling with 3 miles...Throughout the day, though almost constantly gasping for air, I don't feel that bad. Sometimes it's worse though...

Keep the exercise going whatever you do Robbie! Even though I'm finding really tough to do it now I know it's doing me good not bad. Gotta strengthen up them breathing muscles lol

The specialist wants to see me again in October to do a reversibility test maybe something might show up on that so I guess until I see the head doctor and the specialist I'm going to have to sit tight.

I hope you get to the bottom of your symtoms mate

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying but it's a struggle...

Do you cough or have phlegm?

I don't get any really nor a cough well not a persistant one anyway what about yourself?

One thing I do have is like I have a tight band round my chest just where our diaphragm is and after I eat It can effect my breathing, good knows what that's all about lol
