Bad Breath/reflux? pnd? infection? Something else?

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to put this duscussion.

I've had bad breath (especially horrendous morning breath) for as long as I can remember. Probably for a good 10 years or so? (I'm 29)

I've also experience what I think is possible post nasal drip (tongue is always coated. Often feel mucus on back of throat and need to clear my thoat)

and some sort of acid reflux in my throat (occasional burning sensation below my adams apple)

Both the possible PND and reflux seemed to come on after already having bad breath for a numbe of years though, so i'm not sure if they're even related? The reflux feeling is fairly infrequent.

I also occasionally get tonsil stones.

I have good oral health. Brush twice per day, floss, moutwash. Dentist confirmed gums are healthy.

Yet I can taste bad breath coming on again shortly after my morning routine.

NOW, I recently took metronidazole for something completely unrelated, and to my utter amazement, my breath became as fresh as a babies! Reflief after a decade! Even my morning breath smelt of nothing.

I was so happy until I read online that other people had experienced this phenomenen, but that the bad breath returns when you stop taking the antibiotic.

I stopped taking it 4 days ago, and I think that my breath may finally be reverting back sad This morning wasn't quite as fresh as yesterdays. I'm depressed now that my bad breath is likely to return in full force within a few days.

I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light?

Anyone been in the same boat and found a cure?

Can any knowledge be gained from the fact that the antibiotic temporaily cured me or not?

i just found out that Trichazole and Metronidazole is the same thing and they both cure bad breath causing bacteria temporarily. heres an experiment you can try on yourself and be amased by the result. 1. Get yourself Trichazole 500mg via prescription 2.before you take a dose of the antibiotic floss your teeth (especially the far to reach back teeth) then smell the floss. (if you smell a foul odour on the floss then rest assured you do have bad breath) 3. Now start taking the antibiotic 4. after the course(this will be after 5-10 days depending on the precription dosage), floss again and smell the floss if there is no smell rest assured the bad breath is gone. BUT once again to most people the cure is temporary (not that i know of any who were cured permanantly)

My point here is that Trichazole and Metronidazole are the same, my BB was cured by Trichzole and others by Metro(in this forum) so it isnt rocket science to figure out that bad breath is caused by bacteria but as to where the bacteria resides, now that differs from one person to the next. so at this point i can make a generalised conclusion by saying Trichazole/ Metronidazole cures bad breath BUT!!!! temporarily. sooooo lets figure out where the bacteria is coming from and lets find a cure for the root cause to sure it permanently as opposed to damaging our immune system with antibiotics.

      hi brandon,

I did and of the things you posted. I visited specialists, etc.

Tested for many things and posted, please take a look on my postings...

I want to encourage many and tell then we are not alone.

Look into a great Gastro and visit an infectious disease doc.

In my case, it Is GASTRO. i do NOT have h.plori and other things. I am on two meds and will not post because i will get blocked.

Also finding a good probiotic right time to take it. Good digestive enzymes.

The odor i breath out is when i dont take the med on. Time or eat on. Time.

I have hiatus hernia, paraumbilical hernia, ulcer, gastritis.

Look into those and building up a good immune system, have COMPLETE BOWL MOVEMENT, pass gas, otherwise it rises...

I have also been battling with this problem for over 30 years. Whilst I know it is a constant battle however there is got to be a solution for this problem. I had my tonsils removed, tried a number of different antibiotics and products. I still have the same problem. It gets worse when I eat sweets or have high dose of sugar like a can of coke. So I am leaning toward some form of fungal infection.

We will find a solution however it is sad when we can’t get so called doctors or specialist to help us.

White sugar products cause many kinds of physical and mental problems.  Check out William Dufty's Sugar Blues for the details.  I went 2 and a half years without tasting ANYTHING sweet.  However, I fell off the wagon a few months ago and now I cannot pass the "lick the back of my hand test."  I now have non-stop Husband Breath.  I coined the term Husband Breath because I had noticed that married men be haviing breath that can knock a buzzard off a gut wagon!  My wife won't tell me the truth (because she's a polite little Asian lady).  I am strongly leaning toward getting back on the anti-sugar wagon again, re-starting my Tibetan monk yoga-like exercises, re-starting my 3 mile daily walks, re-starting salads (yuk!), et cetera.  The rough salads which I prefer will hopefully scrap the old, rotten mucus from my esophagus on down to my rectum out into the toilet.  Maybe then I will be able to pass the "lick the back of my hand test" again.  I hope so.  I will also eat yogurt again.  Even though I am lactose intolerant I can digest (real) yogurt.

I don't believe cutting sugar out all together will cure or fix this problem. Sugar only makes it worse however the underlining problem is beyond sugar

Dufty might make you believe that white sugar consumption is not only bad but down right dangerous in scores of way.  Even cancer cells feast on the stuff (not a Dufty finding, this is more recent).

hello i hav this problem too. sadly, the smell comes out of my nose too... i have the same problem with sugar. ive tried the antibiotics mentioned here but no avail. but reading all these posts making me wanna try them again.

hope this isnt ur case. anyways... heres what ive been doing that help: avoid suger. duh

vegan diet. greens mostly. i eat lots of kale and make cilantro and parsley smoothies.

gargle with tea tree oi. a few drops in some water.

also, drink two tablespoons of olive oil before bed and in the morning.

the probiotics ive been taking r 3 cutlrell(spelling?) and 3yakults(spelling?). its weird cuz yukults have sugar but they help. so just enjoy those when u drink them.drink them on an empty stomach.

i know this diet is hard but just suck it up. this is only temporary. try it for 3 weeks. dont feel deprived bcuz isnt the life u live already deprived? bcuz woud u rather eat sugar or smell like crap? u decide

      hope this helps

hi everyone I am new to forum but I have been having the same issues for pretty much all my life.

I to think sugar is the main culprit. I have been a big sweet eater all my life, whenever I eat sugar it is worse . My breath can feel up a whole room and it is also coming from my nose as well. I am just worn out. I too have had my tonsils removed but did not fix the issue. I was told I have reflux an pnd but I really think I have pharyngeal reflux because my voice box is  swollen and when I yell I start to spit up a lot of thick phlegm. I will continue to figure out a solution and I will keep you all updated. I too think I have SIBO. my doc diagnosed me with IBS and I understand they usually go hand in hand. I will be seeing a new gastro doc on the 9th of oct. I hope I can convince him to give me a hydrogen/methane test. I will keep you guys posted.

Chacnes are, if you tried everything to no avail, then your lymphatic system is clogged, along with your colon. When your colon is clogged, mucus, debris, and rotten food particles get backed up into the lymphatic system. All of this crud circulates throughout your body, very slowly. This is why thick mucus is expelled from your lungs and sinuses. Tonsil stones (even those without tonsils) are common with a clogged system. Brain fog, lack of energy, and even depression are most likely because of a clogged system. Lack of exercise, dehydration, processed foods, dairy, and sitting down a lot during the day, all contribute to a clogged system. Any combintation of those are almost guaranteeing problems in your body. Halitosis and post nasal drip just being the tip of the iceberg.
