bartholin cyst -- burst only drained a little

hey all
so I am experiencing my fist BC at age 35 -- presented a lump about a week and a half ago that grew to be quite large and extremely painful. Went to Gyn on Tuesday (at this point I was about ping pong sized) who wanted to lance it on the spot -- I refused and asked her if we could wait a few days to see if nature could take its own course. She was NOT happy, but agreed for me to come back on Saturday for the procedure (she wants to lance even if it naturally drains? Not sure how I feel about that..)
Well, yesterday (Wednesday) was the most painful experience of my entire life. It was so painful that I could not even make it to the bath (I've been sitzing and doing a mixture of natural remedies since about last Saturday) so I just kept a heating pad going on it all day in bed. I could barely breathe without being in excruciating pain.. wowza
I managed to breathe through it and somehow fell asleep finally and upon waking noticed that I'd burst and drained some fluid (it did not have the foul odor some speak of, just kind of smelled like vinegar) -- the pain was considerably less thank goodness!! Upon inspection of the area, I can see a tear/lesion where the fluid came from and after taking a hot bath, a little more fluid contined to drain but it was very slow coming. I tried to press and get more out, but it wasn't very fruitful and I didn't want to irritate the area any further.
It now appears that the tear/lesion is somewhat closing up and not much more fluid is exiting. I'm still pretty swollen and my labia still looks like a testicle 
but am definitely in considerably less pain.
Has anyone else had this experience of a burst without a full drain? I guess I thought that when it burst it would just be gushing out all the junk inside instantly, but this is clearly not the case for me. Also, will the tear reopen and continue to drain slowly? I'm keeping it wet and applying some olive oil/witch hazel/tea tree tincture and the tear is on the very top of the inside of my vaginal opening. When I press lightly near it nothing seems to be coming out ..

So in June I had two cysts, one on each side. They had filled up at one point, but never burst. My gyno said they weren't ready to be lanced. We waited and waited, and they got so big so she said lets try to drain them as much as possible. One side drained, but the other she couldn't get to. Finally she said that side was an abscess. I wound up going home and when I sat down to pee, I started bleeding everywhere. I wound up with a blood clot. It eventually healed, but after a few months both of them came back. But they don't fill up fully and change in size throughout the day. Its so painful. They swell during sex, or running or anything. In the morning they are small but by night time they are like marbles. I had two other opinions and they are like just deal with it. I'm losing my mind. I need to find someone who specializes in this type of thing and perhaps not my gyno. Any suggestions? I'm worried there is something else going on under these cysts. I should mention I have autoimmune disease, and I recently had a cold knife cone biopsy for my hpv which was negative. This has my sex life horrible, because its so painful and I'm so insecure. Sigh.

Ok. Is your gyno at the docs or hospital? You need the hospital, a and e, when they are both at their worst. You need a word catheter to drain them , while keeping it open. ..its bo pain at all in comparison. I have posted a few times ,so can't be arsed lol , to repeat, as no one ever checks back in to help, and it has completely gone, no pea size thing or anything. ...i must say that I have bot had proper sex since, it's made me very nervous about sex, but hey, I'm single, so I don't care!;-)

I had gone to the emergency room at one point and they said the same thing, they aren't ready. They don't actually fill up all the way, but they are big enough that skin around it has been stretched out. And I'm not sure a true bartholian cyst would change in size throughout the day. I don't feel anything hard inside just fluid. I put a call into the gyno again today to see if I can have an ultrasound or ct scan done to make sure its just fluid and nothing else. Waiting for the call.

I’ve has several cysts in the past and my surgery a few years ago failed as well. I’ve had so many I’ve lost count. My doctor swears they’re common but I have yet to meet anyone who has this issue (and I’m pretty vocal about it because it’s so painful!). I’m so glad you mentioned the running, because it’s not just sex for me. I can’t tell what triggers it and it’s so annoying. They use to get the size of a softball. I’ve has it drained so many times I have several “holes” that it can now drain from (or is suppose to drain from). About a month ago I was about to go into surgery for a second time and as I was giving the lady my credit card it burst. In their chair. They could not have been nicer but I of course started crying. I was so embarrassed and it was gross. That was the first time it has ever burst on its own. Ever since then they’ve all been draining on their own. But instead of me getting them once every 3-5 months I’m now living with it constantly. I don’t think they’re fully draining so it’s causing the infection to just stay there. It is so frustrating. Thanks for letting me vent!! Keep us updated on your situation and I’ll try to remember to keep checking this thing. Fingers crossed I can fully drain it this time.

Cheryl, I asked about having gland removed, but it's too too small...its like having the same similar gland under your tongue, that makes saliva , removed,
I think this is some thing we do have to live with:'( . I only seem to get them thru sex....not had any since December, and don't plan to.....its a good contraceptive lol at least ladies , ay!

Hannah...my openings seal cleanly? Do you really have tiny open wounds where the stuff can escape?? Sounds mental!
Sooo glad I'm middle aged..would have ruined me as a youngster .X

Hi, I've been reading through these to get some insight, I had a bartholins cyst a couple of weeks ago now, it was huge, I had the word catheter put in once it was burst and have been on 2 Antibiotics, there still seems to be a lump there and is still a bit swollen, any advice on what to do?

I've been reading through these and trying to find some kind of comfort. I'm 51 and noticed a small lump, (BC) the next day it was a lot bigger, I've been doing sitz baths with Epson salt, sea salt, massaging it. It doesn't seem to be getting softer after my last sitz, I noticed a couple of drops of blood but that's it. I'm starting a new job in a couple of days and really need some kind of relief. Can't really afford to go to Dr right now because I have no insurance. Needing relief please. This is very painful. I'm sorry for all that's going through this awful pain.

Hi Alice. ..bless you. Your doing the right thing, and it will ease a little, but if It's a batholin gland swelling, then it's gotta pop sometime, and it won't be blood, but it will be immediate relief!! You will also need antibiotics because when it pops, you will close up quick , like your mouth does, and the infection will be there still.
My last one, last year, had a word catheter. ..it worked. Bit i have not had intercourse since lol, I'm scared it may return, but, this time, leaving it a long time to repair, means it's the first time after three or four, that the lump has totally gone.
When it gets real painful, go to bed with towels under you, and hopefully you will be woken with a wet sensation, from it popping, painlessly...instant relief!
There really are no other outcomes, as you can see on here, unfortunately. ..vat do put a dilute of Epsom salts on a pad, and insert in panties, directly on cyst, to continue drawing on the infection.
Don't worry about your job, you may not be able to walk with a cahone between your legs...so glad we have the nhs....;-)

Do not do all the natural arty farty stuff...and make sure u don't let it seal over without catheter, else pus WILL be left and reoccur. ....proper drainage.
