Hello fellow Bisoprolol buddies - I cannot actually believe that I didn't think of doing a search on Bisoprolol earlier as it is so comforting to have discovered this web page. I have been taking Bisoprolol Fumarate 5mg daily for the past 3 years following a frightening episode in town which resulted in my spending a week in the Cardiac ward of our local hospital. I had SVT while in hospital and the 'specialists' couldn't actually put a cause to my soaring blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. So, I've been told to stay on these tablets for life... I'm 48 now, was 45 then.

The comforting thing about reading the majority of these posts is that so many people are feeling ridiculous levels of tiredness; I don't recognise myself from 3 years ago. This isn't whingeing, just stating a fact. I have piled on the pounds - particularly blubby around my midriff - yet I eat less than ever. I am sometimes so overcome by exhaustion that I have to stop even the most trivial of chores. I have lost my 'get up and go', yet used to be so active with my three kids. I used to be so house proud, yet now can'tbe bothered other than to 'keep on top' of the housework. I used to love socialising, again, can't be bothered most of the time and when I do, I am glad when it is over. I love the peace and quiet of my own company so much more now and feel exhausted by company. Yet I AM ONLY 48 YEARS OLD!!!

I realise I am lucky to be alive, to be uncursed by serious ills, but still, it is healthy to have a little moan now and then, and gratifying to feel online empathy with other 'sufferers'. I find that my partner and children don't really understand - can't blame them, I don't truly either.

Take care one and all.

Couldn't agree more.  I am on daily Pradaxa now for life (my two failed ablations for paroxysmal AF led to atrial flutter and emergency pacemaker and AV node ablation) which means that I will always have upper chamber AF but I don't get the symptoms any more.  The thought of all those blood tests forever would be so depressing, let alone the dietary restrictions and all that sitting around in waiting rooms.  I had nor have no side effects from Pradaxa whatever and I know there are some risks but it is still preferable to the alternative which is more than I can say about Bisoprolol!

Incidentally my husband also has AF (how's that for togetherness?) and was in permanent for eight years and then had an ablation which has lasted a year and now he is paroxysmal and showing the familiar symptoms which I once had.  Once he saw that I had battled and got Pradaxa, he did the same and we are now both on this wonderful drug.  My daughter in America also says that Warfarin is a drug of the past over there.

Hi, I am 41 years old and have been taking bisoprolol for 6 months. Started with 5mg, now 7.5mg. I was diagnosed with ARVD ( a genetic heart disease) december 2014 and started taking amiodarone for about 2 months plus metroprolol. I felt like 100 years old, totally breathless and with no energy. I stopped taking the amiodarone and felt much better. Unfortunately 4 months later my CDI registered an SVT so my doctors changed me to bisoprolol. Very tough stuff. Felt sleepy all the time, and my blood pressure dropped. I am very disciplined with exercising and I know it is very hard to work out feeling like this, but DO NOT GIVE UP. I go to the gym, run, take my bicycle, do yoga, anything that gets me moving. I usually rest one day a week, and that day all the syptoms kick me right back. This day is when I feel the worst. Get moving, it gets easier every day and you will feel the difference the days you rest. In the beginning is very difficult, but it is possible. All the best to everyone

Been on this drug for 7 years or so, 5mg once a day. Im 42 now and have been on beta blockers for AF for over 16 years. The trick is take this drug at night (about 7pm) and plan on having 20 minute power nap the following day between 3pm and 4pm. Don’t fight the tiredness with beta blockers, stop, and rest if you can, proper rest, set your alarm for 20 minutes or however long you can grab and let the tiredness take you. I know it's difficult all the time or at work, partly the reason I’m self-employed and your instinct will be to fight it. Trust me if I’m driving I pull over nice and safe a sleep. Also drink plenty of water all day long and take 25 grams of protein supplement a few times during the day to sharpen you up. Exercise as well, walk to get your heart rate up. It's what I do and it works for me.

Hi! At 72 & riddled with Arthritis exercise isn't an option! I don't get unusually tired! I ran my own company for 25 years up until the heart attack in April 2015! I'm retired now but would work if it came my way but I certainly wont look for it! I'm a retired mechanical engineer! I cant point a finger of blame at Bisoprolol but maybe it & the other medication I take is responsible for my bouts of Tinnitus?

I've found it takes a couple of hours after taking it to stop my heart banging hard, then it runs out about 4 hrs before the next dose is due and heart starts banging again. It's not fast really, but hard

Hi! I don't even notice any difference after taking Bisoprolol! I'm on 2.5 mg/day since the HA in April 2015! With my GP's guidance I stopped the Aspirin for a while believing it to be the cause of Tinnitus & also the Atavastatin 80mg/day which seemed to cause calf muscle pain! Apart from that my medication seems seemless! No palpitations, no anxiety , even the previous bouts of breathlessness have gone! My tinnitusd gets worse though! Any suggestions anyone?

I am taking 1.25mg bisoprolol for hard heartbeat. It's not fast but hard.

As far as I am aware u do not have an actual heart problem, but assuming this hard heartbeat is still because I am not optimal on.my thyroid medication.

Hi Rosemary! Not sure I understand! I had a proven heart attack in April 2015! confirmed by Anjiogram & ECG whilst in hospital! At the time I was suffering from Bladder cancer and should have been at the other end of the hospital having a Cystoscopy! Why do you say I dont have an actual heart problem please? If that were only true! I could throw the pills at the wall & drink alcohol without expecting to die!

Very sorry. Typo error. Meant to say I DONT HAVE AN ACTUAL HEART PROBLEM.

      Not you!!!

You don't need to be but you are forgiven! I believe Elizabeth may have given me a clue! The Tinnitus can be so loud & debilitating & dreaded that it deflects your attention! I dread mornings when I have slept through because I know what is coming! But I have noticed one thing! On the mornings when I forget or delay taking my medication the Tinnitus doesn't appear straight away? However just read in my "drugfinder" that Bisoprolol or Ramipril shouldn't be "suddenly" stopped but should only be reduced under medical supervision! Hmmmm! If I reach a stage where diving off a cliff seems more inviting I'll take the chance & just stop the Ramipril or at least reduce it back to 5mg/day

      Thank you for your time!

I cut back the rampril from 10 mgs to 2.5 mgs with docs permission. No side effects that I can remember. The bisop was changed to atenolol... 100 mgs by my GP. This was reduced to 50 then 25 mgs. The withdrawal was very difficult. Since then I've cut the beta blocker again...taking less over a period of 3/4 months. Last week I stopped taking it! No permission from GP. I'm so fed up of the lack of care. I'm  taking account of all the stuff I've read on the web! I'm still suffering somewhat with the withdrawal, but I'm feeling lots better. No tinnitus!my hair isn't dropping out,I can walk, not tired,I have to wear my vario focal glasses on the end of my nose...I can see better without them, no horrid dreams,no rushing to the loo through night, not as depressed,I can walk without feeling I'm going to wobble over,I can shower without holding on to the rail, feet not swollen...Palps and anxiety not as bad...BP not any different,HR still up and down...I have A/F..oh and I can think straight. I've still got awful backache when I stand..but I've been sitting on my bum so much my posture has been bad and then there's the increase in weight! Here's to chucking the rampril out too...but not yet! I've been to hell and back, read so much stuff, have GPs who haven't listened and a cardio doc who hadn't any time to listen. I'm not saying this is the right thing to do...but for now I'm feeling better and more in control.

I do hope your GP listens to you...bisop and rampril are life savers for some, but I can't tolerate the side effects. I really do know how bad the tinnitus is. I hope I've not kept you awake reading this. Take care.

Elizabeth! you haven't kept me awake! You have inspired me! I'm sat at my PC with my Bose headset on listening to Ocean sounds! I've not taken my Ticagorel or my Nicorasndil but I have had three cans of 7.5% by volume! I'm not inibriated! Just relaxed The Tinnitus is subsiding slightly! I had great news yesterday! My bladder cancer hasn't returned! Yet! Now If I can just fix my ears! I don't suffer from everything you list but I certanly can empathise on most! My BP earlier this evening was 140/80 mg repeated three times over ten minutes! Pulse was 56! Used to be 45-50 in my younger days! I ran Cross country for my school & played basketball! These days I suffer gout which I discovered earlier can be cause by Ticagrelor (one of my platelet drugs) I know how you feel about your GP! Mine is the same but please make allowances! They are under immense pressure by someone called Hunt! I feel that I was let down by the Cardiac Rehab people who cast me off as soon as they could! One of the nurses said i "did her head in!" Anothe called me a "lost cause!" No one monitored my medication! but they asked me to fill in a questionaire to ensure they retained funding! I intend to miss all my medication tomorrow (Sunday) & call

Cardiac Rehab & ask some questions! Embarassing ones for them I hope! I have a level of deafness conducive with my age (72 next Tuesday) but Tinnitus is new over the last two months or so along with unexplained nasal congestion! Prior to my HA I rode a 750cc motorcycle

but don't now thanks to having the crap scared out of me because of "over exertion!" I won't bore you with more tonight but If I can get back to you tomorrow I sure would appreciate it! Thanks for your time!

      Best Regards Henry

Firstly I hope you managed some sleep! I'm so happy for you with the good news on the cancer. Brilliant news.

Back to the tinnitus....sorry but I forgot also to add that whilst on my meds I had a runny nose.not got that now and also my hearing is better, not as foggy in my head too. Maybe the congestion? Meds? Also my sister in law has tinnitus. She suffers hell with it. She was told not to have grapefruit!. No other info or med, just listen to music! However I read that atenlol can affect hearing and tinnitus. I gave her this info as she is taking atenolol for high BP. She's not convinced with my info and continues to suffer in silence. It's so difficult to convince your GP that meds can be causing trouble. It's also scary to take the matter into your own hands.

My BP seems ok...the bottom number is always high...up to 90, the top figure 130 or less. Pulse is crazy... Up to 116 bpm. The doc article I read drjohnm has helped me tremendously. I wish I could make an appt to see him!

good luck with appt and those caring nurses! Not good enough! Seems money is paramount.  mr Hunt! I despair at the state of our NHS. Education ,public services are in the same boat. I must get off my soap box! Best wishes. Hope this will help.

good morning Elizabeth! Best sleep I've had since April 2015! No Tinnintus this am! Yet! BP a little high at 161/86 but in my case that isn't alarming! My wife regularly records 210/90? I have blood in my nostrils & foggy hearing! I too have had a runny nose! Icould fill a library with the books I have on tinnitus! Always looking for the "miracle cure" i'm afraid! My wife has insisted for months that the cause of most of my problems is the medication I'm on & I'm sure she's right but not being medically trained I don't know which is causing the problem, yet! I will be involving the Cardiac Rehab people because as far as I'm concerned they haven't done their job with me! Ihave only ever had one review of my medication & that was to increase Ramipril from 5mg/day to 7.5mg/day instigated by them, condoned by my GP just before Rehab passed me back to my GP! I have had one blood sample for Uric acid & yet the rehab speal infers regular monitoring & counselling! I sympathise with my GP! He is uinder pressure but I see Rehab as a Triarge unit for the hospital consultant! Thanks for your time once more!

Sorry to pester you,but I've googled...could rampril cause tinnitus? Guess what? It can. Have a look and see what you think. There's lots of info about it. I haven't looked at the bisoprolol, but maybe there's info on that too. Looks like rampril is the culprit....but I'm no doc! Hope it helps. Pleased to hear you had a decent sleep.

Hi Elizabeth! You aren't "pestering me! You are helping me! No Tinnitus today! Yet! I haven'y taken any medication today but suspect I must!

Ramipril is a major player in the game of Tinnitus! As is Furosomide! Let me explain! I don't take furosomide regularly but occasionally to remove swelling from my feet! But it causes Gout! I will take my medication later but will cut the Ramipril to 5mg & eliminate the ticagrelor! My choice! I have been on a visit to the sister in law 12 miles away & can't believe that I have no Tinnitus! But I have the feeling of being "underwater" when I speak! My nose is like a tap! I have Rhino "whatever" Someone out there knows what my problem is!

What do you know about nasal septum deviation! Still no tinnitus! You are a star!

      Sorry! To Elizabeth!

What do you know about nasal septum deviation! Still no tinnitus! You are a star!

    • Posted

Don't know anything of nasal septum deviation! Being cheeky...is it a "snotty nose"" LOL!

I'm so glad you've had no tinnitus...thank God! I know you'll make sure that it's ok to cut this med...not like me! I've  binned it! I hope it doesn't come back to bite me!

Fingers crossed, you have some peace...at last! Keep in touch and best of wishes from me.

Hi Elizabeth! THe Septum ia the grissly divider of the nostrils! Everyone suffers "deviation" at some time! It bends over off centre line & can stop you breathing through your nose! This is my problem! I sound, to me, like I'm speaking from under water! One of my Docs reckons I have a problem with my Eustacean tubes! I don't believe her! This condition started about 5 weeks ago just after the Tinnitus! Non today so far!

I will stay in touch if you don't mind though!

      Best Regards

      Henry

Now I'm more informed. I should have worked it out. I knew what the septum is and also deviation....but didn't think !

Getting back to rampril...I hope you've found the reason for tinitus. Docs don't always accept the side effects of meds. I know. I have struggled for   Years thinking it was the AF and being overweight and sitting around. I was so much more active until I got these meds. I retired at 60, but was then asked to do part time at another school. Teaching isn't a job where you can sit on your backside!

Anyhow,I think I'm going in the right direction, just peeved it's taken 5 years. Enough of me. I'm raising my glass of wine to you. All the best. Keep in touch.

Hi Elizabeth Saw your reply last night but the Patient  site wouldn't let me back in! Hope you enjoyed the glass of wine! Visited my GP this morning and gave him a copy of my proposed medication changes! He's reviewing it! Back to Ramipril! I have asked to reduce it back to 5mg/day and questioned if I still need Nicorandil & Bisoprolol! My nose had bled during the night & when my GP examined it he immediately decided action was needed! Both nostrils were apparently inflamed & swollen! I'm now on a nasal cream & antibiotics which can cause temporary hearing loss & Tinnitus? He has my total unreserved trust so I will be taking it to cure my nasal stuffiness & possibly Otitus Media!

Sorry about the nose bleed, but how lucky you have a brill GP. I'm amazed you got an appt. up here in Cumbria,it takes 2 weeks plus. No wonder A/E are under great stress. Hope the med works .

I admit to cheating a little! I am disabled (Arthritis) & I am a HA victim so I go to the Surgery at 8:00 am & get an "emergency" appointment! Others just phone & block the phone line til 8:20! Otherwise it would be around three weeks to see my GP! I can't wait that long without continuing my medication at their present doses & possibly the return of Tinnitus! Just read on this site about Naseptin which I've been prescribed for the nose bleeds! Didn't work apparently so substituted "Germolene" Either very brave or very foolish! Could have been disasterous! Once put Germolene on a rash on my arm & it felt like the arm had caught fire! Thank heaven for soap & water?

I remember having nose bleeds quite often after I was prescribed bisop and rampril. I mentioned it to my doc and he said not to worry about it! Still think it was the meds! Ive become such a sceptic and so very negative about meds. No wonder though! All my side effects were poo- pooed ( prob spelt wrong). I followed the GPs instruction!

2 years ago I lost sight I. My right eye, albeit for a few secs. I saw the on call emergency doc,who thought it wasn't a TIA ( thank goodness), had full check at hospital 3 days later. Results were fine,no evidence of Tia. My GP said it could have been a migraine.( never had one before), after checking, I believe it was the atenolol 100 mgs . My eye recovered, had no problems since then,my beta blocker reduced to 25 mgs with GP! I'm now atenolol free but my doc doesn't know!

Well done you for doing the checking! I don't expect any doc to know everything!  Hope the tinitus is ok today.

Hi Elizabeth! The nose bleed is because the lining of my nostrils are "raw" according to the GP's exam! It has bled profusely in the past but each morning when I blow my nose for the first time I get traces of blood from both nostrils on the tissue! I've used the Naseptin but discovered that the ear drops, Gentamycin, are also ototoxic which means they can poison the middle/inner ear leading to possibly complete deafness presumably if you have a tear in the eardrum through which the antibiotics can travel! They can also cause Tinnitus, which has just started for me after I took 5mg of Ramipril & 2.5 mg of Bisoprolol an hour ago! I'm expecting a phone call from my GP to advise me of what I can or cant cut out!

The Tinnitus isn't as bad as it used to be!

Thanks! About to take some of my medication along with the Clarithromycin for my ears! Hope all goes wellcos  I really dont want the whine back! GP hasn't phoned & i must take everthing except for the 2.5mg of Ramipril! I'm still taking the Bisoprolol because it doesnt seem to bother me!  My issue with the CR is that even I know the Ticagoril (Brillique) wasn't for life but no one from there has ever discussed or reviewed my medication except for Ramipril! Please stay in touch!

Hi Elizabeth! It has to be the Ramipril in any dosage! I took 5mg & i'm ready to jump off a cliff! I'm getting the earphones & nature sounds out ! Like old times! I have to wait til Friday & my next appt with my GP to discuss the dose with him or an alternative medication! I'm guessing from what I've read that my ear problem is Chronic Rhino-Sinusitus!
    • Posted

Oh b....r ! At least you've got an idea what's causing the problem. I was on 10 mgs,now on 2.5 mgs....no tinitus since ! My hearing is better too! It's scary, cutting meds, especially when you have a med condition, but your doc seems like a good un.

So sorry to hear your news, roll on Friday. I'm thinking of you. Best wishes.

    • Posted

Hi Elizabeth! Oh b....r is right! You have opened a can of worms! It appears Ramipril could also be responsible for my ear problems! Side effects can include sinusitis, rhinitis, sore throat & dry cough! I have suffered from all four for the past 3 months having come to a head today!

I'm taking antibiotics for something my HA medication may be causing! & my GP maybe hasn't spotted the connection yet! And I bet CR will be "Surprised" when I have my word with "PALS!"  Three months of my life spent suffering something that probably could have been averted! Remember it was CR who had my Ramipril dosage increased! To say I'm angry is an understatement! BTW I've found something else that alleviates Tinnitus! Anger! HA or not I'm having a dram of Jura! The others on here will hopefully be taking note! Speak with you soon!
