Bisoprolol buddies

Hello fellow Bisoprolol buddies - I cannot actually believe that I didn't think of doing a search on Bisoprolol earlier as it is so comforting to have discovered this web page. I have been taking Bisoprolol Fumarate 5mg daily for the past 3 years following a frightening episode in town which resulted in my spending a week in the Cardiac ward of our local hospital. I had SVT while in hospital and the 'specialists' couldn't actually put a cause to my soaring blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. So, I've been told to stay on these tablets for life... I'm 48 now, was 45 then.

The comforting thing about reading the majority of these posts is that so many people are feeling ridiculous levels of tiredness; I don't recognise myself from 3 years ago. This isn't whingeing, just stating a fact. I have piled on the pounds - particularly blubby around my midriff - yet I eat less than ever. I am sometimes so overcome by exhaustion that I have to stop even the most trivial of chores. I have lost my 'get up and go', yet used to be so active with my three kids. I used to be so house proud, yet now can'tbe bothered other than to 'keep on top' of the housework. I used to love socialising, again, can't be bothered most of the time and when I do, I am glad when it is over. I love the peace and quiet of my own company so much more now and feel exhausted by company. Yet I AM ONLY 48 YEARS OLD!!!

I realise I am lucky to be alive, to be uncursed by serious ills, but still, it is healthy to have a little moan now and then, and gratifying to feel online empathy with other 'sufferers'. I find that my partner and children don't really understand - can't blame them, I don't truly either.

Take care one and all.

Hi! I'm 72 & a heart attack patient! I take 2.5mg of Biso /day & have no noticeable SE's! I have just lost 1.25 stones in 3 weeks (down to 16-3 from 17- 5) My issue is more with Tinnitus which seems to stem from my intake of any dosage of Ramipril!

    Best Regards

Hi, I'm 48 and went in to AF for the first time in November last year. 2 weeks on a ward trying to get my heart rate down from a 195 bpm resting. I ended up on 12.5 mg bisoprolol, 10mg morning and 2.5 mg at night.

I had a successful (so far)cardioversion at the end of January. For the first 2 days I felt great, but gradually I have started feeling worse and worse. I'm now at the point where I can barely function because of the tiredness, plus loads of other side effects such as cold fingers and toes, can't sleep at night, loss of appetite and yet gaining weight, muscle fatigue, periods of feeling like I can't breath etc etc.

I halved my morning dose but still feel terrible.

I'm also on a truck load of other meds, rivaroxiban, ramipril, amiodorone, amlopidine.......

Worried that this is how I'm going to feel forever, and if this is as good as it gets then what's the point?

Several useless visits to my GP who don't want to change anything because my EP has prescribed it.

In a fit of desperation I managed to find my EP's email address and managed to get my next appointment bought forward to next week instead of the end of April.

Fingers crossed I can get some sort of resolution.

Sorry for going on, I have read this topic from start to finish and just want to say thanks. I thought it was the meds making me Ill and this is proving it.

I can sympathise with you all, I wouldn't wish feeling like this on anyone

I've suffered from so many side effects from, bisop, then atenlol and rampril. My GP s all of them except one who has since left, would listen to me!

A/ f is a difficult one to cope with but recently I read a post from docs. This article is a must for anyone suffering with A/F. This doc specialises in A/F and has A/F himself. Read 13 things he says to his patients, also the very latest research is on here too. I hope it helps and also you can discuss this with your cardio doc. All the best. There's loads of us that understand what you're going through.

Thanks for the kind words. I know my world will never be the same again, but some sort of quality of life would be welcome.

I'll try and find the article you mentioned

Sorry I gave you the wrong info. It's drjohnm. I don't think I'm allowed to give you the web page but this should do it! Let me know if you're unable to find it.

maybe your world won't be quite the same, but believe me,you'll feel a whole lot better when you've read this article. Thinking of you

Hi Mike! And welcome! First off I'm not a GP! But I am on 2.5mg/day of Bisoprolol without any SE's! But I recently stopped, with my GP's agreement, 7.5mg/day Ramipril which generally made me very ill! Since I stopped it I no longer feel morose, depressed, tired! I no longer have Tinnitus, apart from the odd attack! I can think straight & I have control back! Before you dwell on the Biso! Investigate the Ramiprii! BTW at the moment my greatest concern is Rhinitis! Blood from my nose in the am & stuffyness of my nose after a few hours awake! Unsurprisingly one of the SE's of Ramipril is! Rhinititis!

Not only a dripping nose, but a hacking cough as well.  Some years ago I was in deep tickle mid-cough when a visiting GP friend of my son asked whether I was on Ramipril - yes I was!  He told me that Ramipril stimulates the cough reflex area of the brain in many people.  So I stopped taking it and the cough immediately cleared up.  I questioned my mother in law who has coughed her way through many years (always had her 'cough bottle') and she confirmed she was also on Ramipril.  Sent her to her GP who swapped it for something else, and.....cough gone!

Yep, first thing my mum said, she had the ramipril cough for years until a locum at her surgery guessed the reason.

I am pushing to get this changed next week.

I'm not going to just stop taking it though. Been playing around with bisoprolol doses the last few days and I think it may have triggered an AF episode

Hi! Mine wasn't really a cough! More a constant throat clearing grunt! But I developed a runny nose, watery eyes & Tinnitus which now just comes & goes! I'm no longer on Ramapril! My GP put me on Candesartan! I firmly believe that the medication for a heart condition is based more on cost than effectiveness!

I have learned to fight for the drugs I want.  This includes Pradaxa (dabigatran) instead of Warfarin and I had a lengthy correspondence between hospital, surgery and Department of Health to prove my suitability.  In between AF episodes now, I often forget I have a problem as INR testing was becoming an ordeal.  I refused any further Bisoprolol or Ramipril and researched alternatives.  Yes, cost is very much upperfront in the GP's mind and they will always try the cheapest first - you can't blame them, they have a budget.  However, it is up to us to present ourselves with side effects and insist upon trial alternatives.

Elizabeth . If you get away with that I want to put my internet (fully qualified) Cardiologists name on here :-)   I am up and running around after a really rough year , He gave me really good advice on supplements  and they worked. I think my reply was deleted because they said he sells stuff. Well he does sell his own brand. But he told me to get mine from anywhere and even told me to buy the cheapest.

i hate to muddy the waters but;  sometimes they are paid bonuses to push the new stuff that has a patent on it. More money for the drug company. My ex GP proudly told me he had given out 52 prescription for Pradaxa in one day.   I read an article on the new  blood thinners about law suits. I know personally two people who have been taken off them because of bleeds. The Warfarin is better because you are checked. The article states that (I have just done my sums) 16% are on the new blood thinners . 44% are on Warfarin . The rest 40% ? are not taking blood thinners . I would like to know how the 40% are getting on. If they are taking something else. What are the non blood thinner people  taking? It tells you how many presctiptions were given out for the new blood thinners .

Well, a successful consultation with my EP today. He seemed pretty cross that I had been told to carry on the huge dose of bisoprolol after my cardioversion, especially as my HR came back into nsr at 55 bpm.

So, being weaned off the bisoprolol over the next couple of weeks, so hope to be feeling less like a zombie soon.

He also swapped ramipril for candastarten, so result there too.

There you go then........!!  Fight not flight from overbearing medics.  I know you will feel amazingly better soon.  Good luck.

Just knowing that I will soon be feeling better is making me feel better :D

Hi Mike!i  stopped Ramipril around three weeks ago! I had every serious SE listed including Tinnitus! The tin still puts in an occasional appearance but bearable! I started on Candesarten  as an alternative! Just 2mg/day instead of 7.5/day Ramipril! The difference is amazing & so far no SE's & I have BP 128/76 HR 76! Not bad for a 72 year old geezer!

Things are looking better for you. Brilliant news. I've now lost 12 lbs weight, more to go!

Did you have withdrawal side effects when you stopped the rampril. I'm going to tackle the rampril when I have lost more weight and also when I've got the courage to do it.

I've just read the latest Medscape article. Real food for thought. If you're interested its legacy pl. throws the gauntlet.... I've split this up because it won't send if I give you the exact reference.

Apparently the heart can recover from AF if the underlying prob is dealt with. Also, reduces blood pressure. Trouble with all of this ....there's no agreement with the cardio docs and a lot of them are not up to date on new research. Just wish there was a magic wand I could find!

         Tin news from you.....excellent. ,

Stopped the ramipril on Monday, cough has pretty much disappeared already, blood pressure is lower than its been in a long time.

Reduced the bisoprolol to 5mg, but still feeling tired, but reducing it to 2.5 mg on Friday.

Lots of ectopic beats and a bit of a headache but I remember someone else mentioned that when they stopped.

But I do feel better, it's early days but I'm sure I'll get there

I have been having blood tests for years for my Thyroid and they all come out perfect. As you know- if you have a dodgy Thyroid it can cause heart problems. I just found out from a doc that a lot of the blood tests are not accurate . He told me to take my temperature every morning before i move. If its low , Your thyroid needs help even though your blood test may be ok. Mine is low. 34.9c and 35.2c etc So he said the temperature readings do not lie.
