Blocked ear due to anxiety

I wrote on hear a few weeks back. I explained that I was suffering from a blocked ear, I was using steroid nose spray all the time to unblock it and I was suffering from dizziness, reduced vision sometimes in one eye, foggy mind and anxiety.

It turns out the ear problem was a symptom of anxiety. I cannot believe it, I thought the ear was causing anxiety but it's the other way round. It turns out anxiety can trigger physical issues that you would never put together. I haven't had a single issue with my ears now since I learnt it's anxiety and it was really impacting my life before this for nearly a year. Now I'm being treated for anxiety, I notice that the dizziness happens when anxiety is triggered. Since I'm learning how to deal with it my life is becoming much better. Anyone that has anxiety as a symptom of a blocked ear please check this out. BTW I was so surprised I had anxiety because I'm so happy, confidant never had issues with it before so you just never know.

So glad I found this post. I am a super confident person, yet the other day out of nowhere I had what felt like a stroke. It started with a strange feeling in my ears where my voice sounded suddenly louder, and then a massive panic attack. Since then my ears have kind of felt like they have water in ( but only on and off) I didn’t realise it could be linked with the anxiety.

      Hi Simon,

how you getting on with this? i had something very similar happen to me a couple of months ago.

I've suffered from tinnitus for nearly 15 years and i do notice a pattern of the more stressed I am the worse my ears are and the more blocked they feel!

Never really considered it to be anxiety until reading this thread to find answers.

Its important to not use something for one part of the body for another part of the body. Consult your doctor about the best course of action for anxiety. It seems the issue stems from lack of cleaning the ear, not necessarily anxiety. Anxiety doesnt usually affect the ears to my knowledge but there are exceptions to everything.

Hi! I hope you're feeling better. yeah anxiety causes tons of different and bizarre symptoms. I struggle with generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks when my anxiety is too bad, I'm an hypochondriac so it's like a never ending cycle: I became anxious, I feel physical symptoms (numbness, weakness, shortness of breath, cold sweats, palpitations), and my hypochondria hits and the symptoms scare me because I'm convinced something serious is happening to me. and because of it I become more and more anxious. Worst outcome is me having a panic attack because of it. Best outcome I somehow manage to convince my mind that I'm not dying. Luckily I'm about to start therapy soon. Been struggling with this since 2019 but I was extremely afraid of being sick and dying since I was a kid.

So yeah anxiety can cause a variety of physical symptoms and it can be very scary. I totally understand you.

dont worry. most symptoms are caused by Anxiety. do not think of your symptoms day and night keep urself occupied.

i had anxiety whole of last year and at its worst the symptoms are:

tingling and numbness and burning skin sensation in arms palms and feet.

pressure in ears n feeling blocked ears

    cold sweat.

done lots of tests and seen multiple docs. they found out its caused by stress n anxiety. when you feel anxious the blood in your body can change pH level and cause vessels constriction n lotsa physical sensations.

relax and take anti anxiety meds.

if the symptoms seem worst in the morning when u are awake or after work hours. most likely its caused by anxiety. thoughts fuel anxiety..so relax

    hi

can you please help me? I have a full clogged ear. I went through all of the tests, clean MRI no fluid an ear, but I am obsessing about it and ruminating about it and it’s the first thing I think of when I open my eyes in the morning and the last thing on my mind before I go to sleep I’m afraid that it’s something more and I’m gonna have this for the rest of my life and it’s spiking my anxiety really bad I can’t even function… Does this feeling of fullness in the year ever go away?

oh my god, I think we are twins. around December 20th or around that because I have a picture of me enjoying a Christmas party prior, my ears started doing all kinds of weird things. I too have been focused on them ever since. I supposed to take care of my dad and I've just been failing because I'm so focused on my ears. I have pressure my ears blocked ears, Sound Sensitivity all of a sudden I never had any of these prior, but in my 56 years I've never had a problem at all. but now I do. cannot wait to see my ent, but he'll probably say I'm fine which I should be happy about lol, but you almost want them to say something is wrong and we'll fix it. can this really be all anxiety? I too was doing fine Christmas parties, having fun with friends, I don't know. it's just all so weird, hope you're doing okay

hi i sent you a few replies and a personal message

i have the clogged ear fullness tight ear feeling sometimes muffled and sensitive to regular noise toilet flushing turning shower on etc.

i have this all right now and i have a clean ent visit as far as mri says

but when i went to ent i was in a massive flare up and couldn't hear out of right ear and i failed the test

i then went on steroids to bring back hearing and a week later i went back up a little in my hearing

coming off steroids now and still have fullness

is this what you really had and was it really a symptom of your anxiety and did it go away as i am so scared and caught up in the vicious cycle of this and cant get out, i hope you are cured and i hope that i can be too! 😦
