Blotchy red rash/irritated skin on penile head (lasted for over 3 moths now)?
Posted , 410 users are following.
Part of the skin on the head of my penis has become slightly red and is causing some pain/irritation.
It first appeared the day after I used a condom so I think I must have had a reaction to the latex or some other substance in the condom.
The tip of the penis became super sensitive and noticeably hurt whenever it touched my underwear.
The skin was and still is noticeably red close to and directly around the meatus. This redness gets worse and bigger after I've come out the shower or masturbated.
An hour or so after ejaculation, I get a slight burn/irritation at the very end of the urethra when I urinate and this can last for a few days before subsiding. This has put me off from masturbating as much now.
This has lasted for about 3 months now with no signs of improvement.
I saw a doctor and was prescribed timodine/hydrocortisone cream and this didn't have much effect and am slightly worried it may just make things worse so have stopped using it for now.
It almost seems as if the redness comes from within the skin rather than on the surface.
I don't think its balanitis as I haven't had that for over 12 years when I was a kid and that was with the usual smegma discharge etc, whereas this is just redness.
I've attached images to show how it looks straight after showering, which is when the redness is at its worst and the contrast between the normal skin colour and the redness can be clearly seen.

Hi All,
Does anyone notice a swelling on the tip of penis opening (external urethral orifice/urinary meatus)?
It's been almost a year now since I have redness on my penis glands. I have tested for HIV and STD's and results came negative. I have been to several dermatologists and used creams but the redness and swelling of the penis tip does not go away.
I get the swelling in the morning at the tip of penis (swelling shape looks like lips) and becomes normal after few hours. Redness creates mild burning sensation.
I want to understand if anyone in this post with related issues have similar problem and how are they treating it?
Thanks

i have exact same symptoms? i thought it's HPV as no tests to confirm. are you uncircumcised too?
do you have SIBO and does your urine smell ? or more concentrate. i belive urine causes the inflammation .
post urination i have slight burning pain.

I have have had (and still have, from time to time if I don't treat the area regularly) the swelling, along with slight redness around the urethra opening and tip. It mimics what you've described. This is in addition to the dryness issue. There is a picture I posted in this thread with an example of that issue and another photo with how it looks after using Chaga oil for a few weeks, morning and night.
I have been tested for everything under the sun and the only things that ever has been found is low-risk HPV (confirmed by biopsy of warts and wifes pap smear) and a candidia infection in my lower groin and scrotom areas (which is now under control with occasional use of Nystatin). The best treatment I have found so far for the meatus and tip is regular use of Chaga oil (day and night). It nearly looks almost normal, especially in the morning.
I was also diagnosed with SIBO last year (both D & C) after a Hydrogen Breath Test with lactulose and treated it with Rifaximin and Neomycin. The SIBO symptoms occasionally flare back up slowly and I use Dysbiocide for a few weeks to knock it back down.
I have my annual checkup with my dermatologist in May and I am going to push for a skin biopsy of the meatus and a consideration for a Mohs procedure as I now firmly believe this is my path to clearance.
This is essentially what others who have resolved this have done, whether they did it chemically on their own (by peeling the top players of the skin with ointments like SMOXL) or by a biopsy and Mohs surgery procedure.

I am uncircumcised. No my urine does not smell. I have tested for UTI and found nothing. My urine PH is 7 neutral so not acidic. I have lost alot of weight recently and not sure if it is because of low-carb and no sugar diet i have been following.
Have you guys been loosing weight?

I lost a lot of weight in late 2017 (when the HPV symptoms and the irritations began). 35 pounds in about eight months. I too had my urine tested, with only minor staph levels whic my doctorconsiderednormal. I had initially started the weight lose intentionally by intermittent fasting and lots of stress but it didn't stop when I went back to a normal diet. I was also eating a ton of cruciferous vegetables (kale, cabbage. broccoli, Brussel sprouts,, etc.) to fight the HPV infection.
After a while, I just couldn't gain any weight back, I dropped down to 160lbs (when I started off at 195). Eventually, my Doctor found the SIBO-D & C issue and treated it in mid-2018. After that and a colonoscopy my weight finally began to creep back up. Now, I miss the ability to keep it off and eat whatever I want 😃. My skin and groin issues got a lot better after those procedures too but they never completely resolved (hence why I am still on here looking for the missing link to resolve it 100%.)

I have had the similar situation as the first post for around 3 years now. It looks exactly the same as the first post. I was first given cream for thrush which didn't work, then was given steroid cream. A swab of the area came back as Non-Specifc balanitis. It was something along those lines anyway. However, the steroid cream did work for about a year, but it has recently came back.
When it first starting happening it was patchy, red, inflamed and itchy. However, since it came back it is only patchy sometimes and it feels like a dull sensation. Definitely something with the nerves in the penis.
It has honestly took a big strain on my mental health and its hard to get the GP to understand the extent because the rednesses and rash is not always there.
After long research I have came to the conclusion that it is caused by one of the HPV strains. I found a few clinical journals which stated a correlation between chronic balanitis and HPV. I am only 23 and could have potentially got the vaccine before I was sexually active, but what is done is done. Does anyone know if they HPV and if so, what strains they have?
There is definitely some research that suggests it is still somewhere beneficial to get the vaccine even though you may be already infected with the HPV strain, plus it stops other strains. However, it is unclear if you body actually does clear it completely or it just goes into a dormant stage which means the vaccine would not be 100% useful.

I was diagnosed with HPV-6 ( wart biopsy and wife's HPV dna test) in 2017. I have recently (past 5 months) received 2 out of 3 Gardasil 9 shots; the last one is scheduled for late April.
I got something similar in 2016 but it went away with over the counter hydrocortisone cream.
However, I did not have an HPV infection in 2016; I contracted it in 2017. Hydrocortisone did not clear it in 2017 and it showed up in 2017 at the same time as some minor warts did in the skin folds of my groin. I have not had warts since late 2017 and I have not had them on my penis or scrotom at this point. You can read back through my responses to this thread to find out how I've gotten it to a manageable level.
Moreover, you are completely correct about HPV, it doesn't go away, it is suppressed by the immune system. Personally. I believe the vaccine is useful in keeping it suppressed and helping your body recognize it and also to fight flare ups. This is based on more recent therapeutic research that has been done on long term treatment of the virus in both women and men.
I recommend a full vitamin blood panel and (if you're doctor approves) a low dose regimen of Vit C, D, Zinc and Magnesium to help keep it at bay. I also now drink alcohol very little and eat a lot of avocados and shitake mushrooms regularly. Chaga mushrooms and oil also works wonder for me.

Curious, strains 16 and 18 will always present as warts? Or can it be asymptomatic like high risk strains...

16 and 18 are high risk and typically do not present as warts are generally asymptomatic in men initially. They (along with two others that I can't think of right now) have been linked to cervical, penile. anus and throat cancer.
HPV 6 & 11 are considered low risk (wart causing but generally not cancer causing strains). I have Hpv-6

Yes, but there are many other high risk ones, such as HPV 31 and 68 and a few others.
I have corresponded with scientists who specialize in high risk HPV research. They say that high risk HPV can cause Bowen Disease and other precancerous or cancerous conditions but there is very little they know about how long it takes to develop, etc. Lots of research on women but they can't extrapolate from women to men. There is also evidence that men have a weaker immune response to high-risk HPV.

It seems that men are prone to reinfection or recurrence of the virus much more than woman. Plus it seems our body is less equipped with fighting against the virus. It is such a shame that more emphasis is not put on the importance of protecting men against HPV. Neck and throat cancers for men are increasing in such a high rate mainly due to HPV, same with anal and penile cancer.
If i get a biopsy would the strain be detected even though there are no approved testing method for men? I definitely think that over time it will improve hopefully. I have yet to find any home kits outside of US to that tests for men.
I honestly hope I have strain 6 or 11 compared to the high risk strains, but I never had a wart or lesion before so leaning more towards a higher risk strain.
Has anyone taken AHCC? There has been studies for woman which suggests that is can help with potentially clearing the virus or keeping it at a undetectable level. Does anyone believe the vaccine is beneficial against strains already infected? So many questions regarding this, with little answers especially for men.

Quickly, havn't dove into heavy research regarding HPV vaccine. As I mentioned before, I just know that it doesn't cover all strains AND I read something to the effect that in 40% of the cases it was shown to have increased activity of the virus, or something negative like that.... just google around and you might come across that study... I didn't get the vaccine after quick research... but that's just me.

I agree totally, that is why I am on a watch and wait protocol with my dermatologist. She is a woman and really seems to understand HPV and its impact on skin outside of warts. She isn't too concerned about where it is at right now (slightly pinkish and only dry if I don't moisturize regularly). She has said it likely may never progress to something more concerning than that, since I only likely carry a low-risk strain. Most of her other patients that have confirmed a low-risk stain don't see it progress past that point either.
However. it is my penis and sitting around waiting, using Chaga oil daily to keep it moisturized and at bay makes no sense. Therefore, a skin scrape biopsy and a MOHs procedure to remove the infected layers is what I am going to insist on in May. It impacts my sex life and takes up far too much time, constantly checking it. I mean, I love the little fella but I need to focus on other things occasionally!
I recently read a great article written by a guy who actually did a MOHS procedure for the same issue we're all suffering from. He has been cured of it (much like the guy on here who used SOMXL). He essentially had the infected layers of skin removed (my layman's explanation). I'll post it here shortly.

Just my two cents, I have had 2 out of 3 of the Gardasil 9 shots so far and I have had 0 wart reoccurrences and no side effects whatsoever. The vaccine is safe, effective and may even have helped me get to the partially healed level I am at now. I think whatever article you read may have had that percentage apply to something else other than increased reoccurrence rate. I say this only because there are many more recent studies by reputable clinicians that actually state the opposite. I recommend getting it just to prevent coinfections alone, even if you've already have an actual infection, you can still contract more than one strain.

If you followed my -ehem-..."journey" on this thread, I discovered that lyme bacteria was most likely the cause of my symptoms. My man parts have all healed up and everything is back to normal as of a few months ago (approx. 1 year post infection).... problem is, about that time, I developed a similar rash on the top of my hand that doesn't want to heal, same sort of stuff I had down below..... I assume it's lyme because it didn't really go away and just moved around, the germs find a week spot and hang out there in the skin.... it sucks, but I must say, I'll take back of hand over penis tip and balls any day...
Who knows, I might have HPV too but no way I'm getting a vaccine for it, I do not trust that $hit at all.
They had a vaccine for lyme disease years back, but it was discontinued it gave people lyme lol. So no thanks.
-side note: when I went to the dermatologist for the issue down below, he gave me a pre-scription for an anti-infammatory cream. It was expensive so I never did fill it. I'm thinking about giving it a whirl for the hand rash now.....if I do, I'll report back, it might be good for many other issues on here....

I actually do recall that being mentioned in your posts but I thought it was a theory and not a firm diagnosis. That is a pesky disease (a former boss of mine had it). Those rashes would show up in weird places. even on his face. I think he was a later stage sufferer since he had been dealing with it for years. He blamed it on a tick bite when he was younger. I also totally agree that having it on your hand is better over having one on man's true best friend. Best of luck and best of health!

Hey thanks. and right back to all the men on here.
I'm a positive guy, I just have it in the back of mind that I will get back to 100% again, just takes time to heal. The man parts were not looking good at beginning of last year, was very distraught and worried......the pictures I could show, truly traumatizing....... gives me a lot of confidence to see how far things have come. We're talking A YEAR process to fully heal, that's no joke....but here I am... all healed up in that area....it almost feels surreal as I type this one year later today, healed up fairly nicely, while at around the same time last year I was in pain, suffering and in a desperate panic to figure out what was going on..... the things I've researched and learned over the year that I never would have otherwise. Sometimes I wonder if things like this happen for a reason, to steer us in the right direction, to teach us a lesson.
How many of us would think twice about a one night stand now?
How many of us would think twice about infidelity?
How many of us would think twice about seeing a prosty or getting a handy?
How many of us were neive, too carefree?
hopefully this provides some encouragement.

is there anything you would recommend overall then since you've cured up? What did it for you?

So beginning in 2019, almost a year later, after many ups and downs in symptom intensity, I started to see some improvements down below (i.e real healing), rashes not so intense, healing up, pain diminishing, redness abating, nodules healing....
To answer question, in rough order of importance:
#1. Time
#2. antibiotics 😃 Bactrim DS in August (17 days),
Minicyline + tinidazole for extended period over winter, these are known ABX for fighting lyme disease, they made THE most noticeable difference and biggest jump in healing. Just gave my system that fighting edge.....I suspected I had a trich infection also so the tini would take care of that also... to add to this, ivermectin and albendazole helped alot.
#3. Diet, I cut out sugar completely over summer, did mostly all veggies, fruits and seeds. Anything carb or sugar related was a no no....as soon as I did anything like that the itching and crawling would start. Now I've slowly introduced some sugar back and it's not so bad. But taking it slow.
a. GARLIC!
b. GOLDEN PASTE, I had inflammation so this stuff was literally as powerful as an NSAID without all the negative side effects. It really is mind blowing stuff.....Literally NOTICEABLE EFFECTS in pain relief within a few minutes.
and in no specific order:
pumpkin seeds, apricot kernels, blueberries, carrots, celery, basically anything alkaline and antihelmenthic/ anti-parasic/anti-bacterial really helped.
#4. Lifestyle......
Healing has so much to do with lifestyle...
a. Sleep/work balance. I saw big effects when getting regular sleep cycle, same time wake, same time to bed, at least 8hrs. I'm a busy guy so it's difficult to keep on that but it was key for me.
b. EXCERCISE, always made me feel better.
c. In my case, sun exposure helped reduce symptoms...
c. Minimizing stress.... tough to do, comes with time.
#5. Topicals:
a. Castor oil bandages, that stuff just pulls anything out of skin. In my case it made the bacteria scatter from a centralized spot, this gave the area time to heal.
b. Dudu Osen black african soap! a must for any skin condition, I used it EVERYDAY and will use it for the rest of my life... it was critical in healing. I know it worked because after lathering it on and waiting for 10 minutes, it would seep in and crack open the infected areas on my scrotum until that they broke open and bled. The next day, they would scab up and fall off.... the ingredients are from an ancient tradition for dealing with all of Africas crazy infectious parasites and bacterial/fungal diseases. It basically covers all bases AND it's natural.
c. TRIPLE anti-biotic ointment, double didn't work, TRIPLE seemed to poke the hive, $hit would go wild when I put that stuff on....then it would seem to heal easier after.
d. Essential oils like oregano oil, neem oil, tee tree oil showed some promise.
#5b HERBS:
Herbs are tied with topicals, I took basically everything under the sun but it's very difficult to make an assessment on how they helped because of the vagueness of the effects....... BUT
seems like MSM (sulfur) powder seems to help, it's known for helping provide the right nutrients for skin cell growth.
I bought and read all five of Stephen Buhners books regarding herbal antibiotics and lyme disease infections.....I took a potion of many different herbal (plant based) tincture extracts ..... because the plants have co-evolved defense mechanisms to fight many of the bacterial plaguing us today, it literally is one of the best ways to help your body fight bacteria. I feel they helped, not quite as much "kick" as pharma ABX but herbals are a good long game strategy and much safer and easier on the body.
hope that helps
