Posted , 66 users are following.

Hi one and all just to let you all knowy Botox injection outcome.

I had this injection on the 6th December 2007, I was only in for the day, I feel so much better, no more having a bath at 2 and 3 in the morning.

The muscle spasms have gone, if anyone of you have read about me on this forum I was in a bad way, in pain every day, not good for anyone.

I feel so much better, I get a small abount of pain sometimes after going to the toilet, but all in all my bottom feels much better, I may have to go in for a second injection, I see my Surgon in FEB. I will keep you all informed, if you have any questions send me an e-mail, or post your questions on this forum.

Happy bottom pain free new year.

So I've had a breakthrough of sorts - after much rebuffing from my consultants secretary, much 'promising' of future appointments that never materialise, I took to google reviews last night and gave them one star and a scathing account of the whole shennanigans. Now it may be complete coincidence but I was called today and informed I have a meeting with him next Tuesday. Then again it may not. So, if anyone is having similar issues with being seen, maybe a bad review would help? For hospitals, especially over here and in the wake of the recent scandals, not all advertising is good advertising.

Good luck Karen! And Jeff - hope you get over your most recent bout.

Just one more thing.  The posting I copied that man  had the Sphincterotomy procedure with great success.  He is now fully recovered. He told the procedure has been perfected over the years.   Good luck Jamie for next Tuesday.

      Update:

I had my fissure surgery today.  I was treated very well by the doctor staff and nurse and  My daughter Sharon being a nurse took very good care of me and asked all the right questions.  I'm doing well have so far not taken any of the pain medication; it's seven hours since surgery.   I'm not in  pain, just feeling a bit fragile.  Tonight I'm taking a Valium to help me sleep.    I hope as the days go by I will heal fast.   I wish you  all the best and will send updates once I'm back online again.

Hi Jeff, Jammie and all who wished to read this.

Since I had the Fissurectomy/Sphincterotomy surgery a week ago, I feel wonderful. No more pain. I can eat what I like with none of the cramps I use to suffer from.   I spent a week at my daughters house, I'm now home again.   I wish all you sufferers had my doctor to heal you.  No pain with the first BM or since that is  taking stool softener.  All I can say at this point is; I have a little tenderness but that will go away with time.    I'm so thrilled, I'm tempted to send the doctor some flowers as a thank you.    I hope all you sufferers can find a good doctor to help you get over this affliction.    I'll keep checking back on the site and hope to read positive news.

I wish you all the very best.

      Karen.

Hey Karen, that's great news! I'm genuinely made up for you, and hope that everything stays fixed for good, After eight weeks in bed my back (finally) went yesterday and I'm currently walking around really slowly, bent over, holding my backside and groaning. It must be like living with the ghost of Quentin Crisp. I must have been a real swine in a previous life smile

Hi all who read this. It has been very quite on this forum for a while I hope the reason is: you are healed and not suffering anymore.   I thought I would let you know of my progress since I had the surgery done on May 6th.  I'm so glad I did, no more pain since the  Fissurectomy/Sphincterotomy I'm out and about and enjoying life again so good to feel this way.  I wish you all the very best....Karen.

Hi Karen, so glad it's gone well for you smile I've managed to push for a second opinion at University College London hospital, who have impressive-sounding consultants all engaged in current research. Only have to wait four weeks! I've been awake all bloody night after stupidly forgetting to take my movicol, had 100mg of morphine and was still wriggly-sore. Still, the sun is out and I'm lying in bed with a nice cup of tea and a good book smile

      Happy bottoms, all!

Hi Karen,  I am still trying to do a 6 month trial of stool softeners.  It appears that as long as I take them, all is good.  I have to be honest and say that I am a little bit worried that the fissure may come back after stopping the stool softeners and am looking into a natural stool softener.  Fibre is not the answer for me sad  I am in Canada and the UK is far more advanced in the fissure department it seems.  I will let you know how it goes.  I am at the end of month 2.  So good to hear that you are doing awesome!!!! Yay you smile

Hi Yvonne and Jamie,   Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated.   Just a suggestion, but have you ever tried Mineral Oil for you BM?  I used this after my operation.  This advice from my doctor. It worked so well for me - the first time after the operation that I had to go it was painless.  Of course it's always different for each of us.  I have learned so many good tips since finding this site.  I wish you  very best with hopefully a pain-free future for all of you.  Best of luck.

Hi, I have just read your post about the results from your surgery. I am happy to hear you are feeling better so quickly. I am going in for the same surgery on wed. I have been reading alot of the posts, and I am terrified. I have had a fissure for over a year, and have been in pain (bearable to excruciating) every day for over a year. I am terrified to go to the toilet after the surgery, because if the pain is worse, I am afraid I will not be able to handle it.  I hope I have results like you did. What kinds of foods did you eat after? Did you bathe daily, if so what did you use in the bath? Thank you.

Hi Crystal,   I hope what I write will make you more comfortable having the surgery.  I, also was terrified having it done. I need not have been.  After the surgery, I only felt fragile and a little tender - no pain at all.   I expect your doctor has given you instructions for the day before?   I ate very little, doctors instructions.  I  had no BM for two days, I took Mineral oil  after the surgery and when I had to go, there was no pain!   I also ate very little after surgery - you don't want to bulk-up too much.   I never took baths, only showers after surgery. My doctor gave me this really useful plastic cleansing bottle to take home with me.   Just fill it up with water and spray yourself down there. I still after almost 4 month still use this bottle each time I go to the T.  A great way to stay clean with no discomfort.   Don't use TP I still use baby wipes and will keep doing this as I never want to ever go through the terrible pain of fissures again.   One thing more,  don't be surprise to be severely bruised, it's natural. I also bled for two days and had to wear maxi pads.  It is so wonderful to be pain free.  I wish you the very best and hope your doctor gives you good advice.  By the way,  DO not take codeine, they will cause bad constipation which is the last thing you need.   The only pain medication I took was two Aleve and the doctor gave me a Valium to take during the night time. Best wishes.. Karen.

      Hi Karen,

Thank you so much for your message! I will take all of your advice. I have heared that Traumodal causes constipation as well. Some of the other posts recommend Diazapam to relax, so I may ask my Dr. about this. She has not givien me much information at all-- it was only just scheduled a week ago. What does the bottle look like? I am wondering if I can pick one up beforehand. I plan to make a pot of vegeatable soup, and plenty of juice to eat after surgery. The mineral oil sounds llike a great idea. Did you get a prescription for it, or just pick up standard mineral oil from the store? I have take fiber and pill laxatives before but have found it is hard to get the right "dose" and have had them cause diarrhea, which is painful! A bit surprising to be writing posts about this topic, but its nice to know I am not the only one suffering from this. Glad you are doing so well, and hope it never returns. Best wishes. C....

Hi Crystal,   You may  like to check out this site:  Anal Fissure Support Forum.  Especially this one man who goes under the name of DAVO from the UK: My LIS Diary.  He is funny as well as reassuring how he did after the surgery.   The plastic bottle the doctor sent home with me I've never seen before, mind you, I've never looked for it.  I think one may have to look in a place where they sell medical supplies.  It stands 8 " tall and has the print of Patient name and cleansing bottle on the side.    Yes, I used the regular over the counter Mineral Oil also tried Miralax which many swear by; it did nothing for me.  We are all different.  Do post again after your surgery and let those who are still suffering know how  it went for you.  I wish you the very best.

Hi karen i have looked in uk to find this mineral oil but all that i can find online is mineral oil to clean equipment and chopping boards?! Is this the same oil? Or am i totally wrong haha And what do you do with it, use it externally?

I haven't had my op yet im still waiting on a date but somedays i almost pass out with pain so hoping this oil might help. At 25 ive suffered with this for 6 years. At times i have felt so low that things cant get worse. I just keep thinking there are people with worse problems out there and i should be grateful. When i get better i am going to do something to raise awareness and money for this issue. People just do not understand, including many doctors, how debilitating this problem is sad

Hi em1989 Sorry for your suffering.  I use to buy the mineral oil at the chemist when I lived in the UK even Boots had it.  It's a lubircant laxative, I bought mine at our drug store here in the US.   I suffered with these awful fissures for 5 years, so do know what you are going through.  The surgery does not work for everyone accoriding to the many postings I've read on this site, however, I'm fully healed since I had mine done so my advice is to have the operation and get your life back again.  I wish you all the best.

Hi Crystal,  I'm so pleased to hear you're doing so well.  I wish for you with every day that goes by you will be fully recovered and  pain free.  One thing for sure, none of us who ever suffered from these fissures will ever forget the pain and missery they caused.  I still take very good care of myself as I'm sure you will also going forward.  So happy you are doing well.  Very best of wishes to you.

      Hi Karen,

Day 1 and 2 after surgery were good, day 3 and 4 not so good. I managed to track down some mineral oil. How much did you take? I tried it last night

but this morning was still quite bad. Hopefully it will get better!

Hi Crystal,  Sorry you are having discomfort.   I took the Mineral oil only before bedtime and the dose recommended on the back of the bottle two Tbsp - it says: don't take with food.  I also did not eat too much for the first week, I did not starve but kept it light.  After four days I stopped using the Mineral oil as I wanted to get back to normal.  You may want to try and take a stool softener each night for at least a couple of weeks, or as long as you feel you need it that should help.   The nurse at the clinic after my surgery told me: it will take about a month to feel normal again.  I did well and healed fast, but we are all different and some take longer to feel better. Do you have a lot of burning afte a BM?  If so, only eat fruit in the mornings and none later in the day because of the acid in the fruit, I found that applied to  me.   I wish you all the best from.....Karen.

      Hi Karen,

Ok-- I guess its good to know it coudl be up to a month (not good- but at least I know what I could expect). I have reduced my diet to fruit, vegetables, seeds, and cerel or oatmeal. I will try limiting the fruit in the afternoon. I have a stool softener and perhaps can increase the dose. The mornings ( first 1.5 hours or so) have been tough. BMs have been painful- not worse than my worse days before, but still bad-- I have been thinking of setting an alarm for the wee hours of the morning to take a pain killer so that it is less painful, if the reduced diet is ineffective. Thanks froe the support!

Hi Crystal,   I feel for you and hope you get past the discomfort you're going through soon. Before my surgery, I read  many postings on this site and found some very good tips from other sufferers.  One, I still use;  Cotton ball soaked  in Witch Hazel and put down there after going to the T I still after four month since my surgery do this - It is so soothing you may want to try it if you don't already.   I've come to the concluding that the fissure problems start with diet some things we eat and never give a thought to how they effect our bodies.  A good idea to take pain medication before the pain really kicks in, that is advice I also read about. Good luck and keep well.

      Hi Karen-- Thanks again.

I have taking baths afterward with salt (as advised) I add a bit of tea tree oil to the bath as well since it has antiseptic properties. I am taking acetominophin and ibruprofen round the clock, the only other pain me I have is oxycodone, but I fear taking it as it can lead to constipation. Today the pain lasted a wee bit less than the pervious two days. Not sure why my first day was such a breeze!  Glad you are doing well!

Hi Crystal,   You haven't posted  for a while, I was wondering how you were doing since your surgery - well, I hope.   I'm fairly pain free, however since my surgery back in May, I'm still not taking things for granted and try and take very good care the horrid fissures never ever come back.  My doctor at the time of my surgery, gave me 15 Diazepam of which I still have eight left.  I now  only take one rarely at night if I've been out to dinner and may have eaten a few things that may cause a problem - talk about being hypo sensitive but that's because of five years of suffering.   I wish all of your sufferers a speedy recovery.
