    Happy convalescence, Karen smile

Well my visit to the consultant was a shocking waste of time. Kept me waiting on a hard seat for half an hour, though he had no patient in with him, which I suffered for later on. Basically said he'd never heard of anyone responding to surgery like this before, that he had no idea why I was still in such pain two months on, and that all he could offer me was a sphincterotomy. We were gobsmacked that he didn't at least want to investigate what was going on. When asked what the chances of incontinence are with that op he said he didn't know! He kind of said without saying that I'd be better off going to the team that referred me to him initially, and that *he actually winked here* he would text his friend there and get me seen more swiftly. The only postive thing I got from it was his suggestion that I may have stenosis. We left in shock.

So, am going back to the original consultant and demanding investigatory procedure. If there any signs of negligence I'm going for blood!

I really do not want to have a sphincterotomy so have been reading about 'house flap' surgery - anyone have any experience or knowledge of this? I'm also considering visiting a Chinese acupunturist. Now starting my second month of morphine and diclofenac, which isn't sustainable, not to mention I just need this to stop for my sanity. Sorry for the long post, feeling a bit kicked in the teeth. Grrr.

    Hi There

How awful is it that so many people are going through this pain and theres no urgency from the doctors? Im a 25 year old female, suffering from piles for as long as I can even remember.  Those and a nasty big skin tag which is sometimes sore but I am always always self conscious about it.  Im fit, healthy, exercise and my diet is brilliant as far as fruit veg and water goes.  So why is this not getting better for me :'( ive had so many internal examinations...the point im at now is I am being seen by an NHS doctor (Garth Beattie), he last saw me 6 months ago and then today.  For the last last 3 months my problems have become tolerable pain to excruiating almost fainting after going to the toilet.  There is a constant dull pain, its agony to go to the toilet and (forgive me for the graphicness) but when I have to push things back in, i cry almost everytime due to pain.  I Asked him why has this suddenly become unbearable?  He said it is the fissure that is attached to the skin tag ...I dont understand these things sad anyway, the Dr has said he will get me in as soon as he can, he will inject the fissure with Botox and I have asked him to remove the skin tag.  He said the botox takes 1-2 days to feel better from...but the skin tag removal will take up to 2 weeks.  He never mentioned anything about the pile tho...at least i think its a pile however on my notes it just says 'skin tag and senntinal tag'.

I cant drive for long, or sit long, I have to bring wipes everywhere and it takes me ages to 'clean up'.  My BM are good, regular and soft - why am i not healing sad I am so depressed I feel like an 80 year old woman.

AM i doing the right thing by letting him do these things for me? I dont know what to do.  Have any of you heard of the HALO treatment?? It was on embarassing bodies and seems like the BEST treatment for piles etc but I am not sure if they can solve skin tags and fissures?

I hope all of you find solutions too my heart goes out to you all xx

Hi Em, haven't heard about HALO before, just googled it and found their website. Think I'd definitely have a chat about it if I suffered from piles. I think, from my own experiences and from reading others in this forum, that you should google the daylights out of everything they offer you, and search forums for people who've experienced them. Ask for a second opinion if you're unsure, and remember that you're the one going through the pain, not the clinician. Oh, and the embarrassment of talking about poo goes eventually :D Chatting to people on here has helped me immeasurably. Hopefully someone with relevant knowledge will read your post and get back to you. In the meantime, happy pooing smile

JamieinPain, you are so right that talking to people ailing from the same problem has helped me immensely as well.

I was wondering though about that HALO treatment.  Maybe that would be for Hemorroids only?  Not AF?

So far, the only thing that is helping me is stool softeners. It's very important to keep the b/m's soft. The moment I stop taking stool softeners, things get painful again. I am going to try and take stool softeners for 6 months and then see what happens. My GP is not the most easiest person to talk to and it sure is not easy finding a new one.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories. I have learned that I am not the only one. cheesygrin

Hi everyone. I came across this forum as I was searching for information about my upcoming Botox injection in a few days time. I actually live in Australia and have suffered from fissures off and on for the past 15 years. As much as my family are understanding of my rants about my BM's and have witnessed my extreme pain, I have felt like no-one really gets it until I read all the comments! My most recent fissure has caused me pain for about 6 weeks. My GP gave me the impression that it was only small and should heal in a few weeks. He gave me a refferal to my specialist but didn't think I would need it. Well 4 weeks later and after much pain I had my appointment. He examined me and said that I had a severe fissure and was surprised I put up with the pain for so long. I booked into day surgery for the injection. This will be my second and hope that it works as it did 2 1/2 years ago. It was costly ($500) and as with your NHS, our Medicare doesnt cover it. I also had a colonoscopy at the time and remember the amazing feeling of no pain (just this weird numbness) almost immediately. That's all, just wanted to connest with fellow sufferers smile

Hi Angela. I found tramadol to be of little use, and it kept me awake if I took it too late. I'm on industrial amounts of morphine, with the attendant movicol, and gabapentin which is an epilepsy drug that works on nerve pain, as I believe I had a nerve cut during a fissurectomy. Paracetamol, I've since learned, is a good baseline drug that improves the efficiency of other painkillers.  For all that, when the pain really kicks in, if I've forgotten my movicol or am so stressed that I dry up inside, none of these help. The pain over rides them all. Good luck with everything, I hope it all pans out.

Hi Angela, I really sympathise for you so so much.  I know what pain these 2 issues bring, never mind it being made worse by something that should make it better! I am due to have the exact same op as yourself in the next 7 months (awaiting date).  I amvery worried as the doctor told me skin tag removal is 2 weeks at least recovery time.

It would be great to hear how you are getting on in the next wee while, I really really hope it gets better for you quickly.xx

Reading this all with a heavy sigh - my own experiences of Botox were not good - twice - second time I ended up being admitted as an emergency to hospital and on nerve deadners directly to my anal muscles and nerves it was that bad - you could have driven a bus into that area afterwards and I could not feel a thing for 48 hrs.

I guess my overall feeling on surgery is that it is very hit and miss and depends on the person doing it - the extent of the fissure and the person.

With hindsight I would never have had the botox and tag removals as this I feel only made things worse - Movicol - Anoheal (Diltiazem) cream - and plenty painkillers are the way to go.

Anoheal was my big breakthrough along with 3 sachets of movicol each day and tons of water.  Shower after each trip to toilet.  It has taken 2 years and I am well on road to pain free visits to toilet and no saring pain for hours on end.

Pain had a grip of me for better part of 18 months and swear it has greyed my hair at alarming rate - still who cares - life is so much beter now.

Whilst you are in the throws of this - it will be hell - but with time and lots of soft trips to toilet and rigorous application of cream (the GTN was useless for me - all I got was headaches) - you will all hopefully emerge in time to be healed.

I still have to watch what I eat and never foret to take movicol and beware of too much of anything likely to cause poo trips to be hard (crisps/bread/ etc) - moderation.

I really hope all of you get a breathrough moment.

    Jeff

Hi all it's amazing how many people are in similar situations.  Well it's now 11 days since Botox and tag removal. I finally feel I am starting to turn a corner.

I think advice I would give to people due to go for this op is. Be prepared for pain, swelling, painfull stitches for a few days. Use ice packs for short periods adequate pain relief and rest and if you have an active job be prepared to be off for 2 to 3 weeks.. I'm still uncomfortable but more op pain than the pain I had before. It will be a case of watch this space. Everyone's comments have helped

Hi there, I was first diagnosed with anal fissures at 2 yes old and throughout my life have lived with years of pain and bleeding and agony whicheck eventually became unbearable a few years ago.

After exhausting all medical treatments including diltiazem  (caused the most hideous rash and itching) and rectogesic  (seems to do nothing at all), wheat grass, and managing it successfully with regular use of plain Vaseline or cortisone cream or topical lingnocane,  I was eventually put on the public list for botox.

So approx 10 days ago no had the injections. Due to complications with the surgery I stayed in overnight and for about a week felt as though I'd been in a car accident

The site itself is just as painful as ever with spasms only now they're almost constant and walling is painful. I get the usual razorback pain during a motion, the usual blood, but now afterwards the spasms last for many hours, keeping me awake at night.  I also get shooting pains when I walk.

I'm hoping the pain will subside soon as painkillers do nothing and I can't concentrate on my job in so much pain.

My gp warned me that having such an old condition it might not work, but the doc who worked on me removed a skin tag but didn't seem to have to remove any scar tissue whicheck surprised me

Every time I wipe, hours after a motion, there's blood. Always blood. Always spasming muscles.

Will give it a other week then go back to the doc. I'm sure this much pain can't bet right!

Hi there, your situation sounds very similar to mine, which I've written about a lot in these boards. The pain management I initially received was woeful, no one seemed to believe me when I described the torment and I was admitted to A&E (ER if you're American, I think?) twice in three weeks simply due to the pain. I'm now on high doses of morphine (and lots of movicol to counter the constipation) and sadly appear to be hooked, as I've missed my meds a couple of times and gone into classic and horrendous withdrawals. A junior doctor prescribed Gabapentin, which works on nerve damage, and most of the back ground pain has miraculously gone. This points to there having been a slip of the scalple when they were trimming scar tissue. I'd advise insisting that someone take your pain seriously, you really oughtn't have to live with it as high as you described. Morphine does help, and although I'll no doubt have some bad times coming off it in stages I'd much rather that than return to a life of constant pain. Good luck, keep posting, and read the boards - really does help! Take it easy.
