Breakfast

What do people eat for breakfast?  If you give up/are watching carbs, I find breakfast the most difficult to deal with.  No toast, porridge, cereals of any sort, bacon, sausages, etc etc.

I was one of the lucky ones and LOST weight with PMR (10kgs).  Now I am lowering my dose of Pred (at present 5mgs) I have put on 4kgs in 3 months!!  I've never been excessively overweight but before Pred I was 11 stone (and at 5'6" that's too much) and as my OA is a really aggressive sort I don't think that would be advisable.

I can manage other meals, but breakfast?!?

That's what happened to me.  I felt that I should avoid the carbs at the time my pred was also being absorbed.  So instead of my big bowl of (organic whole grain) cereal with milk I am now eating pumpkin seeds (high in iron), two fried eggs (I need the calories), a small glass of (organic 1%) milk, sometimes a mandarin orange or tiny tomatoes.  And of course a big mug of tea, but I am making sure the tea is not a strong as I had been used to.  It seems sort of weird as a meal but it satisfies me, I know I'm getting a lot of protein and iron which I really need and it is no trouble to prepare.

Homemade yogurt with frozen organic blueberries. Half a banana with almond or peanut butter. Apple slices fried with bacon. (uncured), Sometimes fried potatoes, both white and sweet, uncured sausages we get locally (chicken and apple), Eggs, eggs, eggs.

A breakfast I have had for years which I find sustains me the best and one which I find I never get fed up with is organic muesli (wheat-free, with no added sugar or salt and low in saturates), soaked overnight in some semi-skimmed milk, to which I add a desertspoonful of wheatgerm, a few assorted chopped nuts, a chopped up apple, a small pot of organic fat-free yoghurt and a teaspoonful of Manuka honey.  Yummy!

Can I ask a REALLY daft question - why use a wheat-free muesli if you add wheatgerm?

Not a daft question at all, especially as I agree the combination might sound somewhat daft. No exciting answer, I'm afraid, and I don't have any wheat or gluten allergies - it's just that I love the particular muesli and it is a bonus that it has no added salt or sugar.  I discovered wheatgerm years ago and was impressed with its wealth of vitamins and minerals, including lots of B & E vits and folic acid, and its antioxidant properties, and it became a habit!

I think I know the muesli you mean - it was my favourite too. When I could find it!

Pertwood Farm.  If ever you fancy a box of it, let me know and I'll happily post it!

It disappeared off the shelves at one point - I looked in every supermarket including Waitrose and other shops that sold Pertwood Farm stuff with no luck. Not a breakfast person any more but thank you!

Yes, I remember searching for weeks in vain at one time when it seemed to vanish off the planet.  It seemed to coincide with the arrival of a new product on the shelves from Dorset Cereals - tried it but it didn't bear any resemblance to Pertwood for me.

Me neither - it was awful I thought. So memorable I can't remember what they called it. Pleased they got the message though - I actually sent in a complaint to the website if I remember rightly!

I happily eat the very same breakfast morning after morning. In case it might appeal, here's what it consists of:

A substantial bowl of cottage cheese covered with hunks of FRESH pineapple slices. The cottage cheese is loaded with protein, a good thing since I'm not much of a meat-eater. The fresh pineapple, bought already sliced, is delicious.

    Good luck--

I like cottage cheese with pineapple....or (frozen) blueberries or cherries.  A good start for the day.

I really can't eat the same breakfast every day, not even two or three times a week,  that's why I started this post.  I'm over fussy, I know, but I can't eat the same things two days running (for any meal).😕  My husband dispairs!

I love cottage cheese with pineapple, not for breakfast but mixed into a salad at lunchtime.

You should have married David - he objects to the same meal 2 nights running! Unless it is Schnitzel mit Pommes of course. Or a ham roll for lunch...

Anyway - you have a few suggestions to work on now ;-)

I did, but just a different one!  Mine is the most unfussy man I know.
