Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

Hi Samon, I have been part of this discussion for months now and as I have advised others, first you should determine or at least try where the odor is coming from. just because it comes out  of your mouth it may not have anything to do with your mouth. mine was from two sources, my stomach and my sinuses. I treated H. Pylori a bacteria which causes ulcers in the stomach and made a horrible smell of stomach acid come up from my stomach. And recently I had sinus surgery to straighten my septum so that my sinuses drain better so that the mucus does not not get stuck in the back of my nose, turn into bacteria and cause a horrible smell (what my husband calls poo breath) which comes out of my mouth. Even after surgery i find because i live in such a dry Province in Canada my problem has not completely been eliminated. I have used everything you can possibly suggest.  I use a sinus rinse with a mild saline solution and have recently found a nose oil which contains sesame oil and a bit of peppermint which i use after the saline which kills the odor. it works well enough for me to go out and socialize and not feel so isolated. just to mention I have on occasion found that because i have not had my tonsils removed as a child mucus which drains into my throat at night time will actually clog up my throat and aalso cause a horrible smell. I will take a mucus and phlegm solution i get at the pharmacy and that helps as well.

Hi mate...I know of a friend who's suffered from the same affliction. Think of it simplistically. The tube goes from your mouth to your bum. So isolationist thinking in regard to your mouth isn't the solution. Two things I highly suggest are dramatically increasing your fiber and water intake. Try psyllium husk, 2-4 tablespoons per day along with 100+ ounces of water. This will act as a bit of a 'scrubber' to your GI tract and give you a better idea of the origin of the problem perhaps. But that did wonders for my friend. He now gets compliments from his girlfriend on how great his breath smells all the time. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. It's always good to hear success stories. It's something else for us to try.

Have you tried looking for tonsil stones?

Hello, I believe my sister is suffering from a similar problem. I was wondering If you've tried anything that's worked yet. My sister tried taking antibiotics, and for a few days, the smell was gone. But once the antibiotics ran out, It came right back, though not as bad as before.

I believe the antibiotics may have gotten rid of SOME but not all of the infection in her sinuses, which is why it's still sticking around. I've been doing quit a bit of research to try to help her, and I read about Colloidal Silver. It's apparently very effective against bacteria, which can't become immune to it as it is not a poison, but it's more like it suffocates the bacteria. It's a long story, you could look it up too though. Maybe you have a similar problem to what my sister has.

We still haven't found a solution, as she has yet to try the netti pot, OR colloidal silver, ( Because she's afraid it won't work and she'll be out of options...I don't know what to do....but anyways.) I thought I would share what I know, and perhaps you'd share whatever else you've found (or anyone else who's reading this) And we might be able to help each other.

    Thanks to anyone who replies. ^^;

My name is Gina I can really relate to your problem Ive suffered with this also for years and Ive tried it all.If I can add up all the money Ive spent it would be hundreds of dollarssad its taken a toll on all of my relationships I dont do the things I used to do even family gatherings its so sad!Ive been looking through this website and read what people r saying and picked up a few ideas if u want to comunicate that would b fine!!!

hi gina, hope some of the tips on here will help and for all of you that have been here for some time with me, i am happy to report that since my surgery to straighten my septum two and a half months ago my sinuses are draining much better, the mucus is not getting stuck any longer and that disgusting smell is finally gone after a decade of what seemed like torture. i still rinse my sinuses every couple of days but the mucus no longer gets stuck, dries out, blocks my breathing and takes on the smell of all food that i eat. i wish all of you the best of luck in finding your solution. and gina you've spent hundreds i have probably spent thousands and that's not counting the big bucks to pay for my own surgery as specialists are pretty useless when it comes to this issue.

I'm experiencing the same issue with the poo smell, after a year of trying different things, have you stumbled across anything that works?

I too, suffer from chronic bad breath. I go to the dentist regularly, no cavities. I was told that I do have gingivitis, but I floss and brush my teeth on a regular basis. I clean my tongue and gargle with mouthwash. But the bad breath comes back again. It is very frustrating to suffer from something like this, because it really does brings self esteem down. Can't even really socialize either, because people pick up on the odor right away. I will be trying the nasal cleansing. Hopefully this will help.

As far as I as aware one cause of this type of bb is constipation, so it's very important to have a least one bowel movement a day. To assist this plenty of water and a high fibre diet is essential as a good probiotic.

      See earlier postings.

Hello virginia62747, have you asked your gastro to test you for candida through blood?

I've been w this issue close to a year & the stress to even go outside and interact with people is exhausting. I can take to many of the replies on this forum.

I'm spending money on a nutritionist it seemed to work until I eat something that will trigger the bad breath.

Hope this gives you ease on not being the only one with this issue

Hello Leaheva, I'm replying from mobile, so bare w me.

my gastro finally ordered the test I get results this Wednesday.

I did visit different specialists. Advise you do the same to narrow and get proper diagnosis. My nutritionist is the one to narrow it out bc of my symptoms.

I'm on a stick diet, vitamins & minerals.

Trust me a very different lifestyle but I made the changes it's two months of expenses but I see improvements plus I took antibiotics last year for sinuses, this & living in a moldy room decreased my immune system. I'm working in cleaning out my gut & rebuilding/improve my immune system. Everybody is different, I advise to see doctors & get proper testing no matter what.

I brush my teeth & tongue scrap, rinse w sea salt (no tab water) after meals n I take acidophilus after my meals. Drink lots of water in between meals, drink aloe & vitamins before meals, cook w virgin coconut oil.

I notice the odor if I don't brush after meals, if I don't eat on time, if sugar was in any if my protein drinks, if I hold going to the restroom. But remember, everyone is different
