Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

it sounds to me as though this is not coming from your breath at all. Its more likely a digective problem and coming from the stomach. You must go to your Dr. this will not only ruin your life but anyone that you get close to will leave eventually if you dont get it sorted. I have experienced this as my husband suffered for years but couldnt or wouldnt go to a Dr it eventually ruin our relationship. I am now very happy with some one else and suprise suprise he has now been to Dr and sorted it out and wants me back. too late he should have had enough respect for me and himself to sort it b4 now. Please go to your Dr or find a Dr online who can advise you. It may even be serious so get it checked out. Why do you think Drs train all those years. Because they want to help people like yourself. This is why they get paid so well because they are the experts and you may be embaressed but they wont be. SORT IT

Hi. I stumbled onto this and it caught my attention because I'm a nurse with 30 years of good experience. I've taken care of many patients in the hospital who've had this issue. I do understand. I strongly suggest you see a Gastroenterologist (GI Doctor) and get a full "workup". Get upper and lower GI looked at. You have the right to insist on a full check. Because it's your body and yr life. And get a 2nd opinion afterwards. Take care of YOU. YOU'RE in charge of YOU. Don't let it go on for a year. God bless smile

Hi Breni. Thank you for the encouraging message. I'm driving back home from a GI specialist and I feel really crappy because when I explained my bad breath issues ( tried everything) but noticed that antibiotics help short term, he told me my chief complain is strange and he is not expecting to find anything on my colonoscopy or endoscopy... made me feel very stupid.... will keep looking!

I think many of us have experienced this kind of response from healthcare professionals. If it is not  occurring at the time of the appointment, then it is just your imagination!  I had one consultant who smirked and stated I should just live with it. I've just got up and left.As Breni states,  it is your life and so you have to stay strong and be persistent and don't let the ignorant hold you back. Remember,  this discussion group is testament to the fact that you are not alone and not just imagining things.

Happy X-Mas to all by the way and how about  A new years resolution for all of us to do something positive about dealing with our collective issue? :-)

So sorry that after all you have tried nothing has worked. Don't give up keep searching until you find the cause. It took ten years and 8 docs to figure out I had gallstones. Can you imagine?

So keep on searching until you find the answer.

Same here this is not normal so why can't a doctor figure this out? I can't even worship in church or keep a job.

Hey so iv had the problem for a few years now just recently I solved my problem. It's to do with my sinuses when I have dairy it makes my sinuses swell which blocks them and causes mucus to sit in my throat which the kind of ferments and produces a horrible poo smell. So my advice would be to try removing things from your diet for a few weeks and see what happens it could simply be an allergy. Hope this helps

And after the gallstones were dealt with the bad breath went away?
  • Edited

Ive had this problem for years. Ive seen loads of doctors and they all crap. I cut out dairy and found it improved quite a bit but it hasnt gone completely. I know it comes from my stomach, no amount of brushing, flossing, scraping and dentist visits make any difference.

same here. I was told that in high school i had bad breath and didn't even know it. I lost 2 marriages due to having bad breath, wouldn't get promoted at work for the same reason. my uncle had the same problem so i guess it's in the genes somewhere and i was the lucky one to get this curse. it's so embarrassing because i want to preach to people since i am a believer in Jesus but that holds me back. I have gone to,  i don't know how many drs that i gave up on asking them about bad breath. i was told i would have to go to San Francisco or LA to see a specialist and that's all i have been told.  I have spent so much money on pills, mouthwashes, you name it i have tried it. I have gone to dentists, orthodontists. I floss, brush, do everything to my mouth to get rid of it but it doesn't do any good.  I am in the same boat.

Hi Betty. I believe it's in the genes too. My sister also has it although she doesn't seem to care. I remember her mum always eating mints so I suspect she had it too.

I was at the dental hygienist this week and she was complimenting me on how clean my mouth was. She actually asked me what I used, floss or sticks. I didn't have the guts to say that I had been rinsing with hydrogen peroxide as I'm sure it's not good for me. I had to stop using it as it was burning the inside of my lips. So much that I was getting allergic reactions with some foods and my lips would swell up.

I've just had another negative helicobactor result so I am no further forward in finding a cure. I'm 42 now and losing hope.

Wow, that's the same with me I want to go out with the Saints to witness. I can't because I dare pray for someone with this bb. I've quit jobs, kids have told me my breath stink. Let's join in agreement and pray for our bb to be healed from it. I believe it's the enemy trying to destroy our life.

Maybe in the genes - I got it first in my early thirties.  My daughter got it in her early twenties - her doc said it was due to her smoking!!  She stopped but made no difference.

Forgot to mention in my earlier post, apart easing up on semi skimmed milk and meat, I also make a week's supply of juice.  Carrot, cucumber, apples, celery and ginger.  It is a powerful liver cleanser.  I freeze it in cups and have one each day.

      Good luck guys.

I'm vegetarian and have been for 30+ years!!!

I do believe there is a genetic element to this, as you state.

Mine was occasional bad breath but repetitive. And it always comes from my tonsils where some tonsil stones hiding . people say that because I have relatively weak immune system (this seems right as I easily catch cold etc) if you can found this stones they smell awfull just as same as poo.  Do research on this problem hopefully this can help
