I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

    Hi,

    I don't know if you ever found a solution to your problem, but you could try this. It won't cost you anything and it sounds like it might sort it out.

    I've never had fab breath, but I noticed that, since I'd moved to Italy, I'd started having to constantly clear my throat. It was a problem I'd always suffered from a bit but it got horrific and kept me awake at night. I thought I had a terrible chest infection. I went to a doctor over here who took one look at my very white tongue and asked me what I ate. 'You've got a food intollerance,' he told me. Now, I've always eaten anything and everything but I had to admit that I was eating a lot differently to before. Way more cheese, caffè latte every day, loads more ham and salami and loads of fruit. I'm sure that I must have been intollerant for years but never noticed because these weren't a big part of my diet. Apparently, if you're intollerant, your stomach can't digest the proteins and sugars and this causes toxins which, if you don't get diarrhea, rise back up your easophagus into your mouth. They make your tongue white and your breath smell and can give you catarrh. It's not easy to diagnose what it is that you are intollerant to, but there are the 'usual suspects'. For me it seemed obvious that fructose, lactose or pork products were at the bottom of it.

    The only way to find out is to exclude them from your diet for 6weeks and see what happens when you reintroduce them. Pork, all dairy, high fructose fruit, produce from the Americas (aubergines, corn, potatoes and tomatoes), coffee and spices (anything that has been introduced into our diet relatively recently and we haven't adapted to eating yet). I'd start by cutting the first 3 out for a couple of weeks and see how you get on. It's not easy giving up these things but it'll be worth it if you can get your social life back. If there was a change in your diet that coincides with the time it happened, then you know where to start.

    I hope that this helps.

    I've already written a long post but I don't know if it got published. However, especially if you have a white tongue and/or catarrh, it could be a food intollerance. They can develop any time but you could have had one for years and never really noticed until a change of diet makes it a problem. I'm writing this because all talk off food intollerance mentions diarrhea, vomiting and hives but never catarrh and bad breath so I know it's a frequently over-looked symptom. All dairy and pork products are the best place to start. Those and fruit. Fructose could be the problem. Give them up for a few weeks and see if it gets better. Then try spices and produce from other continents that have been introduced in the past few hundred years - tomatoes, avocado, potatoes etc. If that doesn't help, try onions and garli and coffee. Ideally, you should give them all up for about 6 weeks and then gradually reintroduce them into your diet and see which provokes a reaction. These are just the most frequent offenders so it could be something else. Examine your diet and see what you come up with.

      I have to say this is the most sensible reply I have seen.  I absolutely agree that diet plays a huge factor in bad breath.  Not because I believe bad breath comes from the stomach but because the food we eat changes the conditions in the mouth.  For example dairy causes me to have post nasal drip and therefore a coating builds up on the tongue which attracts bacteria.  Sugar makes candida thrive in the body and bacteria feeds off sugar.  It's very very hard to change the diet as our body so often craves what is bad for us.  We all wish there was a  magic solution where we could eat and drink what we want and have the sweetest breath!  I try and manage it by cutting down on dairy and if I do have dairy I scrape my tongue and rinse my mouth more (I use pro fresh mouth wash).  Sugar is an issue as I am a total chocoholic but I am working on cutting down.

    Hello. I have the same problem and have been battling it for 10 years. I have been to

    All kinds of dr's and they all say the same thing. They don't smell it. My coworkers have nicknamed me smelly. Just wondering if you have found a solution. I read something yesterday and am going to try something new. Hopefully it works. If not, if like to hear what you have found, if any solution. Thank you

    Don't eat before bed! I met 2 people who has same breath. They were both overweight and used to eat late evening. After you eat and laying down causes this problem. That's what I observed. Try to eat at least 3 hours before bed. Let me know it you noticed any difference.

    Hey so iv had the problem for a few years now just recently I solved my problem. It's to do with my sinuses when I have dairy it makes my sinuses swell which blocks them and causes mucus to sit in my throat which the kind of ferments and produces a horrible poo smell. So my advice would be to try removing things from your diet for a few weeks and see what happens it could simply be an allergy. Hope this helps

    Under normal circumstances I apparently don’t have BB – confirmed by family member and another friend. But occasionally I do suffer ‘fart breath’ and it has had a major impact on all aspects of my life, especially as I don’t know when it is occurring and that is a real b****! My experiences off the back of this are very common to all on this group and so I won’t repeat.

    I can guarantee my BB will be brought on by a heavy night of boozing and it also occurs quite regularly when I’m in the gym, the latter of which I put down to straining with the heavy weights causing something inside to go in reverse perhaps. There has also been the odd instance where I’ve been doing very little and it has occurred, which is more worrying as it is impossible to predict.

    I have been vegetarian for over 30-years, am slim / fit, have been seeing a Periodontist for years and hence have excellent teeth / gums – now anyway! My tongue is pink, but I have noticed that running my finger along my tonsils does leave a bit of an unpleasant smell on my finger. I only have a small appetite and get bloated quite quickly and I do get a fair bit of wind. Eating late gives me acid symptoms and hence I try to avoid this. I sleep with an open mouth that prob doesn’t help. I am prone to water infections, which is unusual for a bloke; I did note one other poster, male, got these as well although it could be pure coincidence.

    I had an endoscopy and all was well, although the Doc did say that the valve to the intestines was not the strongest he had ever seen – whatever that means.

    I wonder whether these things are genetic, as my Mother on the odd occasion gets it too. If so, it makes you think that there is not a lot you can do about it other than try to lessen the symptoms. :-(

    Having read every post, just about everything has been tried with very little success – take note before spending money on expensive treatments / medication or having operations! I can’t help thinking we’re all looking in the wrong place for the answer, hence why our efforts fail so badly. I certainly think though that the following should be a given for anyone that believes they have BB:

    * Brushing teeth after each meal.

    * Tongue scrape if you have residue on your tongue.

    * Check your tonsils for stones / odour – Google it!

    * Mouthwash (without alcohol)

    * Healthy diet.

    * Plenty of water.

    * A trip to the Dentist / Periodontist / Doctor.

    * Don’t keep it to yourself, but speak to a family member or close friend to gauge when / if it is happening and the extent. A problem shared …..

    * Know that you’re not alone in your suffering!

     None of the above should cost too much, if at all anything, and even if it doesn’t cure the BB, you should be in better shape as a result.

    For my part I am going to check for tonsil stones as there is a bit of an odour there. I may next see an ENT specialist as I do have allergies that may be contributing to the problem. Thereafter, a GI and after that, I’ll just give up.

    Be strong fellow sufferers, you are not alone in this world.

    Hi everyone. I'm also suffering from bad breath. I checked up myself to several doctors. Thruogh different doctors and my research and study this came into my knowledge that this type of bad breath causes due to stress and depression or anxiety. Then I go to psychiatrist, he told me that bad breath is often due to depression that affects our digestive systems. He gave me few types of medicines, and I am taking these medicines. I think you should all once check yourself to a psychatrist. If you found reason comment here.

      Yes, i think it is safe to say that you have an 'oral' problem. Place a condom on your partner before 'masturbission' and that should improve your breath.
