I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

I have changed my diet and my condition has improved. I eat salad everyday without dressing with small portion of meat and bread. I lessen eating too much oily food, citrus fruits to avoid gas and bloating which makes bad breath worse. I seldom eat pastries, cakes, donuts, and processed food. I hope you have other recommendations. This disease is depressing at times.

It seems the common problem here is not with the mouth (as most of us visit the dentist regularly) it's the stomach.  Maybe we should try get a referral to a GI doctor see what they say?

well, it looks like with over a thousand replies, someone would have the right answer. and here is the right answer..........back in your throat where your tonsil are or were there are folds of skins. take something long and SAFE that can reach back there and start trying to look in those folds.  i think you will find something that is white and almost hard about the size of a pea. kinda' scrap at it to get it out....it is just stuck in those folds and its called a tonsil or throat stone. it is bacteria and food and gunk and they smell to high heavens.  i bet thats what you have and you could have more than one. try not to gag and go get it. good luck.

Does anyone on here have like a yellow coating in the middle and a lot on the back of their tongue? Just wondering if I’m the only one.

Yea You have to use a tongue scraper that can be a cause of BB too. I actually have pinponted  my problem its a theory.  Years ago I had tooth decay really bad on my back tooth I went to the denstist immediately after uncovering the smell of BB.   and the dentist did a rootcanal and ever since then I have the smell.  Everyone says they dont smell it.

Hi all my question is If I wanted to have my tooth removed because I can smell thats where the odor is coming from will a dentist remove it upon my request or can he refuse? I have a root canal and crown thats where I think the odor is coming from

The last couple of months have been the worst of my life, I used to be conscious of when I had bad breath and would be able to have mints ect now I’m apparently nose blind. People always cover their nose when I talk or rub their nose, people wince when they come into a meeting room I’ve previously been in. I can’t smell a thing I regularly visit the dentist hygienist I’ve take particular care in brushing my teeth and tongue and still no results. I’m a 28 year old female and this is th  worst thing that could ever happen tested for h pylori came back negative, been taking pro-biotics no help, checked for oral thrush no help. I’m at a loss, I  went to the fresh breath clinic in London which confirmed my breath was ‘bad but not awful’ and the follow up sessions with hygienist pretty useless. I have noticed my tongue is always white no matter what on either side any suggestions? Im close to ending it all

      Dear friend,

Pls don’t lose hope. I have chronic BB since decades (now 46).  In my frantic search for cure, I stumbled upon many triggers for my BB but nothing like a final cure.

1)I used to have tonsil stones which I found was caused by lactose intolerance. After stopping milk and milk products or using lactose free milk or lactase tablets while consuming milk products, tonsil stones disappeared. Some people it tonsil stones happen due to gluten intolerance too. This has reduced by BB but never cured it.

      2) Tea and coffee always used to aggravate my BB and when I stop it, my BB is under control.

      3) I also have oral thrush and acidity issues. When acidity/acid reflex  is under control, BB is reduced.

      4) I have sleep disordered breathing (apnea related)  which cripples my day time due to severe day time drowsiness.  Still trying to address the issue. I also do a lot of mouth breathing which results in extreme dryness of the mouth, throat etc. I suspect that also seem to cause bad breath.

To conclude when I have the will power and avoid tea, coffee etc completely and avoided milk products, my problem is reduced a lot. Still the exploration is on....

Hi Not, I had the exact same situation as you but I have improved my breath dramatically, and have confirmed responses from friends who used to tell me to eat gum or offer me mints at the bar. It was horrible to go through that but it's a blessing in disguise because I can trust my close friends with their honest opinions.

Do you sit at a desk a lot during the day or are you sitting a lot in general? I do and my posture has suffered because of it. And did you know that bad sitting posture can lead to all kinds of health issues, like sinus problems (which causes bad breath), ear problems, stomach issues (especially with the sphincter valve (the little valve that closes off your stomach to your esophagus. If you have bad posture or tight upper leg/lower back muscles, this little opening can stay open and let your stomach acid splash up to your throat and mouth, especially while you sleep!! Think about it, if you go all night with stomach acid, mucus, food debris, etc in your throat, the next morning and rest of the day, you will have horrible breath, regardless if you gargle, irrigate your nose, and chew gum. The smell is in your throat, nasal cavity and back of mouth/tongue. First thing you MUST try is to buy bed risers to put under the head of your bed on either side. This angle while sleeping uses gravity to fight off all the stomach acid from shooting up into your throat.

Another thing you must try is the Natural Rest Position. Simply lay on your back with your head resting on a thin pillow or blanket (just enough to raise your head a bit), then pull up your feet halfway to your buttocks so that your knees are bent quite a bit. Feel your pelvis and hips sink into your bed. Do this every day, morning and night for ten minutes each time. While you are doing this, gently press your buttocks down into the bed, repeatedly. This movement stretches your psoas muscle, which functions as a hip and thigh flexor, which makes it the major walking muscle. If your legs are stationary, the action of it is to bend the spine forward; if sitting, it stabilizes and balances the trunk. The lower psoas brings the lumbar vertebrae forward and downward to create pelvic tilt. If you sit for long periods of time, your "pelvic tilt" is off and your muscles are tight, which is messing up your stomach/throat connection. Hence why you have a white tongue all the time. The white stuff is acid, mucus, and food debris (food gets stuck in your sticky throat) which makes your problem even worse. Who would have thunk that the basics of posture would solve my problem.

While you are in the Resting Position and sinking your pelvis into the bed, cough a lot. When you cough, it clears your throat in all angles, top and bottom. Simply "Clearing your throat" is not enough to clear your entire throat. You must cough hard, which clears your lower and upper throat areas of the smelly stuff. Saying the word "cocky" while pronouncing the C's as hard as you can.

And of course the basics, which I hope you are already doing every day, tongue brushing (with gel), gargling with antiseptic wash, and the biggy, drinking a gallon of water every single day. I promise you, if you start drinking a gallon of water every day, your situation will improve a great deal. Combining that with the rest of the above should provide some much needed relief for you.

Let me know if you get any help from my suggestions.

You might be up to something. I’m scheduled to have an endoscopy done in 3 weeks, I’ll ask the gastroenterologist about all these things.

      Thanks buddy

Make sure they take a scraping of the lining of your stomach for analysis by the lab, checking for Giardia. It is very difficult to diagnose otherwise. This is why I had to have another endoscopy a couple of weeks back!
