Burning in Vagina and Anus

Five months ago I took Augmentin for a sinus infection. A few weeks later my vaginal area started to burn, then the perineum and the anus inside was burning. The gynie said I had a yeast and bv infection and gave me flagyl and diflucan. My infections went away but not the horrible burning! The inside opening of my vagina looks like a red rash. I have seen five gynecologists, biopsied for LS and LP both negative. Dermatologist had no idea what it was. I saw an allergist, GI, Rheumatologist, still no diagnosis. I've been given steroid ointment, and steroid shots with no improvement. Has anyone else experienced this after taking antibiotics? This has ruined the quality of my life as it hurts to walk and sit for any length of time. Help!

Very sorry you have this problem. i took antibiotics on and off for 3 years due to 15 UTI's. I also have burning in the vulva. I see a specialist and have been using CLOBETASOL, a strong steroid ointment twice a day. It has helped quite a bit but I still get flare ups. The specialist thinks I may have an autoimmune disease called LICHEN SCLEROSUS plus a nerve issue in the vulva. I hope you get the help you need.

been 6 weeks for me. THANK you for the suggestions. It is so frustrating when doctors dont know whats wrong with you.

Been to gyno, urologist multiple times

Trying now to do nothing and let my body heal itself. I bought at a baby store a bottle to rinse with a spout to wash upside down. It has been a great purchase FRIDAMOM .

Hi, was diagnosed with vulvodynia back in 2013. I was pain free after 1.5 years. still pain free now. It is possible to cure vulvodynia. Please see my post "how i cured my vulvodynia" to see how I did it. Other women have posted their success stories on there too. I have advised and guided several women to becoming pain free because I know how awful this condition is and felt I should try to help others. If you click in my name you will see a list of my posts.

I am seven weeks into pain. Been to the Gastro, urologist, guy now. Had my blood checked multiple cultures… Etc. it’s starting to get better on its own but at times the pain was so severe I thought of going to the emergency room. I’ve tried going a few times to a female chiropractor. And I’d have to think this somewhat has helped to loosen up the muscles in my body. Nothing to lose

i have been seeing an open minded chiropractor who is coaching me on posture and stretching. it seems to help. The thought is that its a nerve, not sure but every other doctor has had no idea and gave up. Chiro has nott. trying dermatologist too

Im suffering from the same exact thing. My symptoms started about 3 years ago when i took Azithromycin.

Symptoms where dormant for about 2 1/2 years then suddenly the uncontrollable burning is back in my vulva, perineum and anus. It comes and goes randomly. In the last 4 months its been back about 6 times.

Ive been to a couple doctors, have done every medical exam available and i get no diagnosis. I wish i could find out what is wrong in order to at least live a semi normal life.

I control the burn with ice packs over my pajamas or underwear. It is the only thing that helps. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

      Cristina,

Totally understand and sympathize what you're going through. I have similar pain but generally it stays and does not come and go. Perineum and anal skin and lidocaine does not help. Waiting for biopsy results.... At this point, I will be unable to work past December if I don't get some help. Ice did not help me but, rather, heat. I am glad you found something to ease the pain. I never took any antibiotics so I suppose this is LS. Take care...

Going through the same thing i feel like i cant deal with it anymore I'm going crazy. I think its a mixture of things but I'm sure toilet paper is the biggest problem. I been using recycled tp for some years now I thought I was allergic to bamboo tp little did I know they put other chemicals like fermaldahyde and other chemicals when they cant use chlorine. I have also contact tp paper companies and I been told me they use recycled paper and they dont know where is coming from. they are probably using paper from receipts or papers with inks and chemicals idk anymore but this is awful. All I know is the burning is in the back and in front and tp touches that on a daily basis. I'm miserable.

Stop the recycled tp and find one without bleach-if possible. Have you taken antibiotics lately? What moisturizer are you using? We are all pretty much in agreement that extra virgin coconut oil is the way to go. Organic and non-GMO at that. Best wishes.

I stopped the recycled tp, Im currently looking for other tp unfortunately most tp say recycled and others have softners. I have used coconut oil but because I think my ph is unbalanced it relieves a symptom and causes another one. however i take coconut oil pills and it helps.

You take coconut oil pills, not just eat the oil on something like popcorn....If the pills/capsules. gel caps (are they gel caps?) then that makes me wonder whether there is something in the fat that contributes to the skin problem. Where do you get coconut oil pills? Have never seen them in the US, only oil. I, too, have noticed that toilet paper is all recycled! Maybe it's part of this global sustainability movement where everything must be reused. Maybe not a good idea as they would have to bleach it or sterilize it somehow in order to resell it. I think we've been had.

I agree! recycling is good but I'm not sure in this case is a good thing specially when its messing with our health. the coconut oil capsules are from gnc they are organic and extra virgin. they also sell them in some groceries stores like wholes food and recently I found some at cvs. Vitamin stores also carry them. I dont think is the coconut oil I been using for years for my immune system it really helps me heal. However when I apply it topically in the area sometimes it throws my ph off a little while at the same time reliving my burning symptoms but causing other symptoms... In my case I feel it helps me to drink the capsules and take probiotics but I never feel completely back to normal. I have also been getting too many utis lately... its a nightmare..

Yes, a nightmare that we never wake up from. Well I will investigate these coconut oil capsules. We have a gnc not far from here. You think it throws your Ph off a little? How so? I am confused by this sentence: "I dont think is the coconut oil I been using for years for my immune system it really helps me heal" Do you mean the capsules are helping you heal? Helping your immune system? Happy Holidays!

Yes I'm sorry I meant to say when Take the capsules its helps my immune system and also helps the burning when I urinate. However if I used it topically putting the oil in my vaginal area it will help the burning when I pee or around the vulva but it will cause some discharge or itch. So I only do it when I'm desperate with the burning and then I immediately take probiotics. I think the reason that happens to me is because my ph is already off balance. Coconut oil is antibacterial anti viral and anti fungal so I imagine thats why... Happy holidays to you.

Update: I normally get a uti after almost every period and burning symptoms get worse. This month on the first day of my period I tried using a pad and symptoms got really bad burning down there and cramps. I took it off and used a made up pad until I went to get a Diva cup. I also used some metrogel cream immediately to calm my symptoms. I notice after removing the pad my cramps went down. I was able to use the diva cup with no symptoms. Not the most comfortable thing ever but it did the job. I noticed I didn't get as much cramps and pain as I normally do. So my point can the pads and toilet paper be causing all these problems or making them worse with all the chemicals. I feel like everything is connected. I'm doing all kinds of things to get better.

      Still taking coconut oil pills.

I stopped drinking coffee I felt like that helped me.

I started taking a glass of water with a squeezed lime and a teaspoon of baking soda in the water that really helps, and I'm using metrogel or a yeast infection cream the dr prescribed as needed depending on symptoms.

Hope to help someone out there. Also my nurse told me to use boric acid vaginal suppositories for 10 days. She said I need to reset all the bacteria down there. I have not done it yet because I'm a scared.
