I have only been off the Statins for 3 days and already the pains in both knees has eased up..especialy where my right knee is concerned...it was excruciating. .I am seeing a different doctor next Monday as I came off the Statins after having blood results that showed diabetes and I've had vertigo headaches pains in my joints especialy knees night sweats etc...basically all the symtoms that are mentioned as side affects...I am pretty gobsmacked to be honest...as I went on these due to heart problems..history in family and got admitted for angina attack...my faith in docs has gone out of the window as my blood pressure was quite low and I was prescribed another low dose to still bring my blood pressure down...only to be rang by doc not to take them...ime totaly confused at the moment...I just want to know what's going on.regards Carol

Hi carol,
I too had similar side effects, vertigo, headaches 24/7, memory loss, confusion, anxiety, night sweats just to name a few. Dr's kept saying it isn't the statin but they also didn't have an answer as to what was causing all these symptoms. I even had an MRI if the head to make sure it wasn't a brain tumor or lesion, that was negative thank god. I quit the statins on my own 7 weeks ago and have seen major improvements. It takes time to heal from the damage they can cause some patients. I'm not a 100% yet as I still have vertigo from time to time but it is better. It could take up to 6 months or longer from what I'm hearing from other patients I've talked to. Hang in there and give it time, if you absolutely have to be on the drug try a different one maybe at a lower dose. Good luck and stay positive. .
Scott

Hi Scott thank you for reply..it's very strange as I've told the doctor I would like a scan as I thought and still do think that I may have something wrong with my head...she brushed it off and just said it's vertigo...Its realy frustrating...we know our own bodies..and when something is not right...it's almost like they are fobbing me off...and realy don't believe what ime saying...the doctor also said maybe I should have psychiatric assessment. ..which says to me there is a disbelief of what ime saying. ..I am not at all happy with this doctor so I shall be seeing a new one on Monday and hopefully get all the tests that I am entitled to..thank you so much so for your I'm put as ime made out to be some crazy person at the moment...to hear of others that have had the exact symtoms Is a relief in a kind way of course

If you can get a dr to sign off on the mri get it done. It will ease some of the anxiety which will help with the headaches. When I got my results it cut mine in half. It was about 5 to 6 weeks after I quit the statins that the headaches subsided..

I think that's great being able to have access to your records....I could be wrong...but I don't think we have that here ..in Scotland....

Don't have it in Australia either. I'm sick of Dr's just handing you a pathology request without telling you what you are being tested for. I throw them straight in the bin now

I also had a high reading for diabetes but i refused to take the medication. I have no diabetes symptoms. I'll see a specialist before I do anything in regard to that

I was never given medication...only diet and exersise ..oh yes exersise with the pain from statins...my blood tests always came back......and this was my gp's words.......better than a non diabetic....and like you Jane ..I had no symptoms...I did go to the loo a lot...but as I told my gp....I was on water pills....

Ah yes excercise when I can't even walk! I was telling a nurse friend and she said oh just take them, that blew me away too. I don't know if its the Dr's or the kick backs or the government telling them what to do it's very frustrating. I went last week to get two warts removed. he'd have to biopsy them. Hopefully I'll get the results today and would be extremely shocked if it was anything other than a wart. one has gone but the other hasn't I'll have to get that removed again.I'll go to another dr. While I was waiting for the nurse to get everything ready he gave be a pathology request and said get that done. I of course immediately threw it in the bin. He didn't even tell me what it was for. Just because these things are bulk billed do they think they are free? Nothing is free our taxes pay for them and everything thing then goes up.As you can tell I'm very disillusioned with the medical profession. What happened to 'first do no harm' The end

Hi Wayne I didn't see that in the herald I'll google it and see what I can find. I did see a report on h 9 sydney news friday 9th sept saying that statins caused only very minor problems in a very tiny amount of people, that it only causes diabetes in an extremely few. well in my opinion that is one too many. The side effects have only diminished a little bit. The worst is because i have developed arthritis in my feet it is worse because of the muscle wastage and the flow on of ligament and tendon strength which makes the feet worse. I've read on this forum people saying it's taken them 5 years to feel better and some never recover I will never go back on them or any one a day medication, which is a constant battle with my Dr. My Dr retired and i don't like this one so I think I will have to find someone else but its hard

I found it, I think it was probably the same report that was on the news. Don't agree with a word of it. He reckons that only 2 million aussies are taking them and I highly doubt the number is that small

There are different types of vertigo there is positional vertigo which I've had for years and can be treated by an Equilibrium physiotherapist there is also vertigo from meniere's disease which is also diagnosable. There are probably other types which I also imagine are diagnosable so if it none of those it must be the statins. Good luck with your new Dr. Also the 'psychiatric assessment' remark is the most unprofessional thing i've ever heard and very demeaning to you. You should report that carol.
